i love how you tell your experience about the pen and your art itself. your voice and accent sounds really beautiful too. :]
+Joey Belardo awww that's really sweet of you :) you made my day! ❤️
What a beautiful sketch. I would love to see even more bird sketches with that lovely glass dip pen.
Thank you so much! Plenty more to come :)
Hi Lucy, as a fellow dip pen lover, I really enjoyed your video. Then this morning I saw a video AD in my Instagram feed that was selling a glass dip pen and in the video they appear to be using clipd from this very video! Thought you might want to know. The ad was by Trending Central but I can't easily send you the link unless you're on Instagram. Thought you might want to know.
+Sadelle Wiltshire hi sadelle, thank you for your kind words and for letting me know. I didn’t realise it was being used elsewhere. I do have instagram @Lucy_Locks_ I will try investigate further. Thank you again
Lucy, I just followed you there. I also mentioned you in a comment I posted on the offending IG ad by Trending Central. IG doesn't make it easy to report them... and looks like you'll have to do it in their help center, but as a fellow artist I'm happy to tell folks to avoid them.
+Sadelle Wiltshire thank you so much :) I will get on that straight away. Thanks again for your help and support :)
If you'tr having uncertainty, and you fail to properly destroy it, you're not actually doing this right. Deliberate distractions only mask the problem, but if you want to put in proper thought, you'd need to pay attention to what you're doing. To pay attention means to focus, the ability to sort through your thoughts, to throw out the bad ones in favour of those you'd wish to keep.
In fact, you're not actually supposed to doubt yourself at all. To doubt yourself is actually harmful to your work, since what you're actually doing is projecting your thoughts. Thoughts are forms of truth, complete with what that it implies. Thus, to doubt yourself leads to risk of doubting whatever it is that you'd trying to project, and since thoughts can only exist when considered forms of truth, doubt is actually its worst enemy.
I went a head bought a Glass Dip Pen and like it, still getting use to using it.
Brilliant! Yes the weight and scratchiness can get a bit of getting used to :) glad you’re liking it
I was inspired by your video to buy one, and l am looking forward getting my Glass Dip Pen. Your drawing is quite brilliant as you would say, over in the UK. Try doing a ink and wash, that way you won't have a problem with ink drawing on your glass the pin as much.
Thank you! I’m glad it inspired you. The glass dip pens are glorious to work with. You will love it :) ahh yes good idea. I will keep that in mind :)
It's soo plesont to watch what you did with this pen .it's soo good 😃
Thank you!
Its a guy in Venice, he has his stores in Paris too, its Murano glass with real silver holders( the metal thing that tip goes into), with real crystals or gold, depending from pen to pen, it looks and feels stunning
They really are a work of art and a dream to work with
Wow, such an amazing drawing, and I just adore birds! You did a great job, such attention to detail too :) Would love to see more birds, or plants/flowers too I love pen and ink drawings, I've never personally gotten a chance yet to try dip pens, I usually used felt tips , microns, etc. Tried calligraphy pens once when I was a kid, sucked so bad at lettering hahaa, but never thought of trying art with them back then. I've seen the glass ones on amazon and have had some in my wishlish for ages, I think I might just have to get myself one next month when I get paid again this video has me inspired! Keep up the great work, you've got a new subscriber going to enjoy watching your art videos. Oh, and on a side note, not sure if it will help or not, but on another video I watched earlier today on another channel that was discussing how to use dip pens they talked about using water or rubbing alcohol to clean the nibs, maybe rubbing alcohol might help clean the stains from the acrylic inks and that black spot you were talkign about? Worth a shot anyway :)
Thank you so much! :) I’m glad you are inspired, you will absolutely love using a glass dip pen and they are so worth the investment :) yes I will do some flowers/plants I think they would turn out nicely in this style :) also thinking of using my new kitty as a subject :) if you like microns have you tried the staedtler pigment liners? Very nice to work with :) thank you again for the sub :) ahh yes what a good idea. That never even crossed my mind 🤪 what a dope. I will definitely try rubbing alcohol as that stain bugs me every time!
Thank you!
Awesome can't wait to see the kitty and flowers/plants! I haven't tried the staedtler pigment liners yet, just found out about those recently in a video I watched where an artist was showing what all different pens he uses in his pen and ink drawings, they got added to my wishlist too haha. Hope the rubbing alcohol helps :) You're most welcome, glad to help.
lilchichiboo same love pen and ink drawings such and underrated art form
Here is an idea you may want to try, the next time . . . sense you want to add a bit of colour to black ink drawing that your working on watercolour paper anyway. Why not take a bit of the colour ink diluted with a bit of water and use a paintbrush instead of the dip pen to add it! You'll get more pronounced result and it will not look so much as a after thought.
Ahh that’s such a good idea actually. I will most certainly try that next time :) thank you so much
Found this video from trying to find reviews on Bortoletti dip pens. I was a little hesitant to click on it, since I was specifically looking for reviews/info on the pens, and not for people drawing with them. But I'm so glad I did decide to click. This is, honestly, some of the best art I've seen in a while. I don't know how to say what I'm thinking properly, but the amount of detail you've shown with so little actual detail is amazing. Maybe I'm a little biased, since this is my favorite art style, but I love it
+Rogue Adventurer wow thank you so much :) I'm glad you can see that I'm hinting at detail without adding a tonne! All I can say is that the bortoletti dip pens are amazing. Smooth to work with and a nice weight. 100% worth the money :) I hope if you get one, you'll get as much enjoyment as I have :) thankyou again :)
@@LucyLocksArt is the tip of the nib completely polished? no scratchiness no un-eveness?
Yep very smooth nib, glides over the paper wonderfully
really beautiful
Thank you :D
Do birds, other animals and creatures-think of the butterfly or dragonfly with the magnificent, nearly microscopic filaments running through their wings! Oh my, I seem to be inspired! Could not catch where you got the handmade paper from and realize you were I Paris when you gifted this to yourself. I know you were pleased, so pleased with results, nice to know there are different sizes, too. The idea of a study of birds feet, talons and "knobbly bits" is a good one! Keep it up ad keep sharing. thanks. Terri
Thank you so much! I tend to use khadi handmade paper and my bortoletti dip pen ☺️ glad you enjoyed and felt inspired
Amazing ink work. I recently got some glass ink pens for Christmas which I have no experience with. I do like pencil sketching. My wife's friend gave me several quill pens a while back. I was searching for tutorials on the glass pen. I'd love to see you draw an octopus or some other sea creature.
Excellent, I’m sure you will enjoy them ☺️ yes! I am wanting to do more sea creatures! I did an octopus during my huevember series, it should be in a playlist if you did want to see ☺️
Wow beautiful glass pen,I would be afraid to use it, so fragile and me being so clumsy. lol The Robin turned out wonderful.
Thank you so much! Oh believe me I was terrified and still am everytime I use it. Scared I’ll chip the tip and it becomes useless.
it is such a beautiful dip pen, but mine does not work really well, i always have to pick up color and then the ink tries on the dip and will not flow at all, it is so annoying, is there anything i am doing wrong? comparing with my other dip pens it is the worst working one and it seems that the dip is quite short (2 cm of length), how long is yours?
What brand of dip pen is it? Mine has a nib length of around 3cm and I swear by the bortoletti branded ink. I’ve never found an ink that works quite the same.
What type of ink are you using?
Beautiful bird drawing! Would love to see more. Such detail. It seems like the glass pens with the long pointy tips do more detail then the shorter fat ones. Tuesday Morning often gets the glass dip pen kits. They come with a pen & a small container of ink in a nice box. I recently bought a long skinny one for 8.99. It was made in Italy but I can't remember the brand off hand. I can't wait to try it.
* Just noticed this video is 2 years old & you've been gone for 5 months. Hope you come back soon....
aww thank you! I will be back! I have just had some things going on in my personal life that have stopped me form making videos!!
I agree through, the longer more slender dip pens seem to be the better ones for sure! You will have to tag me in some of your work when you get to try your new pen :)
You did a beautiful job drawing that bird! Love peoples art. Thank you for sharing, take care Love & Blessings to you!
Thank you!
Hi Lucy, Anna and I really enjoyed your tutorial. Anna bought a bortoletti No 7. Nib pen for line drawing but there are no instructions for cleaning the nib. Do you know what she should use and how to do it? Kind regards, Ian.
Hi Ian, thank you ☺️ I would recommend some 99% alcohol if you have it. If not some hand sanitizer would work and an ear bud to gently get into the grooves.
I don’t tend to clean my pen after every use as the water based ink is very thin.
Hope that helps ☺️
Thanks Lucy, great tip! (Pardon the pun 🤭)
Thank you for the inspiration. How about an owl ?
Ooo an owl would be lovely. Thank you
Very nice; thanks for sharing! I love glass dip pens. It's hard for me to explain the attraction to people but there is a wonderful feel to using one.
+Steven Walter thank you :) yes I agree. They're heavy, but in a good way. And so so smooth!
I got the blue bortoletti quill from the original store on a Disney adventure trip and I love it!
Oh wow! Is it smooth to use?
YE
Hi Lucy, I love your bird drawing. I am an avid bird watcher and after watching this video, I plan to begin working on another drawing. But this time I will ]be using my new glass pen when I ink it. I got it recently for very little to try one out. I'm sure your Murano glass pen is far superior and I'm happy for you that you got one. Yay. I will let you know how it works out. Jane
Hi +Jane Vincent ! Thank you for your comment. I'd love to see how it turns out so please tag me in a pic somewhere! I'm not sure if glass pens can be superior haha, I think mine is chipped at the end so is a little scratchy but they're so fun. I hope you enjoy 😊
I have bought cheap glass depends because it is video and they suck . . . well at least I haven't had a good experience with them.
Ahh okay. I was going to try a cheaper one. What sucks about them?
You've earned a like and sub from me! ;) This video was beautiful and inspiring! I love drawing, and probably gonna try with a pen like this too! I was planning to get a glass dip pen for a while now, but never got to the point of actually buying one.. I think now is the time! Have fun drawing! :)
Thank you very much! Yes the dip pens are a dream to work with and seem to make every pen stroke perfect! I hope when you get a chance to use one you will enjoy!
Fabulous!! You are very talented. I love the eye--from a distance it looks smooth and wet. I love all animals, but I do have a special fondness for birds. I also love the glass pens. 'Clear' is one of my favorite colors, so I must have one!
Thank you so much!
Birds are my particular favourite too, they’re so different.
Highly recommend a good quality one as the the nib is just so much finer, bortoletti if you can! ☺️
I checked out the prize of this glass dip pen, oh my God!!! I'm so glad it worked out for, sense you brought it for you Birthday, after all. But it's way too rich for my blood.
Haha yes it was quite pricey indeed. That’s why I’m so afraid to use it 😅 it’s mostly on display!
Fantastic
Thank you!
I think ur so very talented. Ur work is amazing thank you ☺️
Thank you so much! :) glad you like
Love your drawing and the details ❤️

+Pamela Green ahh yes! A beautiful bird :)

+Maria Kellner haha. I would imagine shorter is better? I have very small hands and this pen is very long and heavy! Where did you purchase yours?
Lucy Locks from ebay the seller is junelife under 3 dollars.
+Maria Kellner great thanks I'll check them out :)
Love your art can you do a wild cat with the dip pen?
Thank you! Possibly in the future yes ☺️
