Thanks Frank for choosing to talk about this epic topic 😅
As an INFJ female married to an INFP male I will share few insights on our differences:
    1. We don't argue often but when we do he tells me: "Chill down. I am like the reflection in the mirror. If you smile I will smile back at you" BUT the problem is when I turn on my "absorb his emotions" skill I just can't smile back because I already absorbed his pain/anger. He has to calm down first so I can absorb the good mood and move on. INFP are mirrors and INFJ are sponges.
    2. He genuinely loves people and has faith in them and seems like he never learns when a friend disappoints him. I always end up telling him: "Can't you see this person is toxic and won't change?" and he is like: "Maybe but he's my friend." INFPs' kindness makes INFJs look like villains.😅My husband just can't door slam whereas I love doing it.
There is a lot more to share but this comment is getting too long I don't know who's gonna read it 🤓

Amanda Masterson Thank you 😊 Below is one of our usual conversations.
*Watching the news. Terrible things happened.
INFP: I can't watch this crap. Only hypocrisy and injustice! My inner peace is disturbed.😢
INFJ: Brace yourself. There are worse things to happen. You will see.😏
INFP: How do you know that? 😮
INFJ: Well, history repeats itself..(speaks for an hour about past events and how they are all connected)💁‍♀️
INFP: That's scary. Are you sure? 🧐You are so dark!
INFJ: The dark side clouds everything.
I think INFPs are like children (in a good way) in terms of how they see the world. Very unaware of the dark side whereas INFJs like to know more about it you know "for research purposes only"😅

Ok..so, I really am not sure what I am.. INFP or INFJ..I hate conflict, love identity and values, but I also love pattern recognition.. it's like I am trying to build a system to my life that would be a holistic approach.. I love to categorize everything - love collections.. but in real life, my life and room is a mess - disorganised. Also, I absorb people's negative emotions so much, but I don't express it. Also, I am not direct in my expression at all and I am never controlling. Tested both INFP and INFJ at different times in my life.. so, am confused. I am guessing that I am probably INFP, but not sure. Oh, and I don't blame others for my failures, it's almost always something I did or said.

@@stefanmirica6485 The reality is that these tests do not have scientific backing thus why they are not used s a scientific way to measure personality.....I love MBTI, but I would take the tests with a grain of salt. Only YOU truly know what you are. Although its great to have a label so that you can then relate to others using said label, try not to get too hung up on it. The reality is that although he acts like what he is saying is scientific, its not. These tests are THEORIES just like attachment theory. Here is a quote straight from Pychology today "The scientific study of personality is indeed a valid discipline, and there are many personality tests that seemingly hold up to scientific scrutiny (thus far). It just appears that MBTI isn't one of them"....so as much as this guy acts like what he is saying is fact, its not.

The type of “changing personality over time” that I’ve seen most in my clients I believe has come from the traits that were taught from their parents early on. Say a mom with dominate Fe instills strongly in her daughter that taking care of the needs of others (in typical Fe fashion) is just the “right thing to do.” Then later in life she gets to know herself better and is actually Fi dominant. Her initial answers on the test may have been reflecting her typical actions, but it just took her a while to realize her brain has different preferences that are equally admirable. Her personality type didn’t change over time, but it took her a while to figure out and accept her own innate preferences.

I think this makes perfect sense, I sometimes get typed as INTJ (but more often as INFJ) and it used to confuse me, but then I realized that up until my mid-20s I used to act and think of myself more like INTJ, because that's how my (probably narcissistic) mother has raised me. Maturing and becoming more of my own person has proved to me that I'm rather INFJ

    • @kendrasurprenant3899
      @kendrasurprenant3899 4 роки тому +11

So instead of people changing their personality type over time they just mistype themselves? I find it's easiest to type myself by doing a lot of self reflecting and finding which type I decide I relate to the most instead of taking the test and relying on that to give me results since the results change so much. Like I was on meds for a long time so I was emotionless due to those meds and always mis typed myself as INTJ as well as the tests typed me that too but eventually after coming off those meds I really evaluated myself and how I am naturally and I relate so much more and feel much more connected to being an INFP as I learn about myself.

I’ve done Myers-Briggs Test roughly 4 years ago and has been an INFJ throughout the years until just recently. I was shocked to learn that I have turned into an INFP. I’m unsure if the questions on the test has ever changed but I feel it has something to do with outgrowing a certain flaw. As a previous INFJ, I’ve always been an absorbent sponge towards other people’s feelings and thus often get effected by them. I guess as time has passed, I learned how to outgrow my weakness and gain more boundaries towards feeling other people’s feelings too much. It’s also as a protective shield for thinking more about how I feel first before dealing with another person’s. Not only that, I probably learned to be more like myself, which is an INFP. Therefore, the test can also serve as an effective tool to grow and improve yourself as you go, so I have never imagined that I could change in a span of 4 years!

I had the exact same thing happen and I think that when I was going through a lot of emotional transformations (trauma and healing) I was way more sensitive "absorbant" of other's emotional energy.
It seems like when I'm in a transformational/more emotionally motivated course. I've always flip-flopped over the years.
When I'm doing "better" or am more firm with my boundaries and stable in my sense of self I test as an INFP.
I test more often as INFJ but thought (because I have been actively healing my trauma) that I was a jerk because I don't seem to feel as empathetically drawn to fixing "wounded birds" as I used to be.
Glad I'm not the only one that has experienced this confusion. 😅

In so many ways the two types are alike, that’s for sure; coke and Pepsi like Frank mentioned.
But what really helps me distinguish myself and accept that I’m an INFP is my inability to “emotionally door slam” like the INFJ.

The door slam is just one of the things that could help you pinpoint a type (infj in this case). I think with infp and infj being so similar in a lot of ways, it's more about who do you resonate more with - so out of 10 situations would you instinctively, naturally act as an infj (or infp) in 6 or more? And I feel like that can change as well...
....or there might be things that you don't accept about yourself that make you want to change and in case of an infj I feel it might be the easiest way to change towards beconing this slightly less cold, volatile creature, infp?
I'm not that deep in the mb topic but I feel its not exactly like learning a new way to do something, I feel it's more like listening to you second thoughts and eventually internalising that voice as your primary way to think about things...
So maybe you were an infj and now you're infp? And maybe in x years something or someone will eventually trigger your door slam and you might slowly revert or change again?
Do what makes you happy and don't let anyone define you xx
If you read about the mbti, hope it helps you understand yourself better, but don't let it confuse you xx

This is a little bit old but I wanted to weigh in. I'm very in the middle of J and P, possibly leaning bit J. I think that in general mental illness has made me more J, since I struggle very badly with anxiety and the feeling of not knowing what will happen. Trauma has also made me resentful and a massive people pleaser, which are very INFJ thing. However, I also struggle a lot with the classic INFJ "door slam" (boundaries? who's she), and while I enjoy planning and scheduling I struggle to enact them and tend to just do whatever I want to do at any given moment. So while I think abuse made me start to lean INFJ, it definitely introduced some more INFP behaviors. I could think of more examples but I'm tired hah

I'd love an in depth video solely about the INFJ demon function and patterns of weaknesses/problems. That's the aspect of typing that has helped me most but I have a long way to go...
Understanding my dominant way of thinking/feeling/experiencing the world has helped me enormously over the last year. It helped me see the damaging patterns in my relationship but also be more compassionate in accepting the clash of different personalities on an essential, non-blaming level. I don't feel constrained by the notion of being an INFJ. I see it as a useful tool to aid self-examination and self-improvement. The gift of this comment section is that you can see the positive traits of INFJs in action 🙂❤️

You can be INFJ and live in your own little fantasy world 24/7... and as a result believe you are INFP. But only INFJ would dream they were both, no INFP would ever wish they were INFJ, and thus you have your answer. Also, only INFJ has the capacity to blend their compassion to become everyone, and have appreciation and love for every personality type. But then again, this is our sole unique gift, and why we are INFJ in the first place.

I took a random mbti test online website and got INFP. My P percent was 51% and J was 49 percent. At fist I totally agree because I have many things related to INFP like always daydream a lot, overthinking, preferred hiding feelings and keep things private, love helping others and think too positive sometimes. The only thing that I can be related to INFJ is l always plan things out and want things to be settled. My life is scheduled and I have strict daily routine (which can be flexible sometimes). After I notice that many people mistyped as INFP and starting being curious and took mbti test again but in different website from the one I took before. The website have only 2 choices to choose (the previous one was strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly agree and neutral) I got INFJ. That made me start being confused about my personality type. When watch Frank James’s videos and look at mbti meme and I still think I’m related to INFP not INFJ. Thank you so much Frank James for making this video and making me know that when you got the result as a personality type doesn’t mean you have to fit with "all" that personality type’s characteristics. There can be differences based on each person’s lifestyle, culture, family backgrounds, ideologies, personal interest, jobs and how you grow up and many other external factors. I also realize that even though I like planing, I find it difficult for me to get things done as I have planned sometimes and I sometimes flexible to my routine. Also for my dad, he’s an introvert but his job makes him can be very confident in social situations and not being afraid of talking to a lot of people. He’s very great at working as teams and also can deal with people easily. He has a lot of friends and love hanging out with them very often but he just feel more comfortable when he’s alone.

When I first took the test 5 years ago I was INFJ. This year I took the test again and I'm an INFP. Took it again recently and still INFP. Our personality types are mainly based on our upbrining and trauma personalities, therefore we can change from one to another.
Edit: as suspected when I took it again the other day I was suddenly ENFJ. I just think these tests are not really broad enough to capture every aspect of a person and as our brain changes throughout our life nothing is definite

Sorry, that's not how it works. We are all born with a dominant function which starts to mature around 5. Our second function starts to mature when we're around 12. Our third function matures when we're around 20. Our fourth function matures when we're around 30-35. They are always there and we can tap into them, but they get more mature and start to balance us out as we learn to use them properly. We all have the other 4 functions too, but they are incredibly weak and never fully develop, but rather sneak up on us from time to time.
The tests don't account for mental health, trauma, etc so it's very likely you were mistyped back then and when you healed from your past you we're in a healthier place to make a proper judgement on your answers.
The first four functions of INFP and INFJ are literally completely different. INFP - FiNeSiTe and INFJ - NiFeTiSe. Your brain can't suddenly shift the entire way it functions. That would be like receiving a brain transplant.
Also, fact to note, a lot of people with trauma and high levels of anxiety incorrectly type as INFJ because many tests skew those "personality traits" in it's favour, but that's leading into stereotypes which is how most tests are designed.

Great video. I always was typed as an INFP when I was in High School. As an adult, I test as INFJ, and that type really fits better. I think it's easier to be mis-typed when you are young and still learning about yourself. I imagine this is why many people think they can change type. I also think some of the more empathic types can be influenced by others, not to the point of changing types, but in how they answer questions in a test. My sister is an INFP and introduced me to MyersBriggs, and I'm sure she influenced how I responded to test questions. Of course as I grew as a person, I became more self aware, enabling me to be more accurately typed.
    Maybe that's just me.

ENFP may not be the shadow mbti of an INFP (it's actually enfj) but I do understand you totally haha. So you might be more people orientated when manic and then when you return back to your ordinary form you might be more self orientated (not selfish, just focus on yourself more).

You’re right, I went through a phase when I thought I was an INXJ. As an INTJ I struggled with relationships because of my weakness in the feeling function, so I worked really hard to develop better empathy. I ended up getting clinically depressed eventually and came back to MBTI at around the same time because my Battalion Commander wanted everyone in our unit to take the test. I tested INFJ then but still identified better as a INTJ, so I thought I might have changed myself into an INXJ. Now that I understand the underlying functions better, there’s no doubt I’m an INTJ who just went a little too far trying to develop an inferior function. It’s good that I’m capable of being less of an asshole now and know better how to respond to other people’s pain, but I’m still happier and at my best when I’m either in my own world (Ni which we have in common) or when I’m communicating the seemingly cold hearted Te truth.

I understand that everyone says you cant switch types. All I know is that I was an INFJ most of my life. Every time I took the test I was consistently rated as an INFJ. I have no reason to lie. Thirteen years ago I hit an emotional wall in life due to unaddressed early childhood trauma. Ended up in the hospital in in-patient care, then out-patient care. Then ten years of therapy. I am a different person with different motivations. I not longer get satisfaction from planning, pre-planning, post-planning. I no longer derive my satisfaction only at the end of a project. My natural thought processes aren't hyper sensitive to what others feel. I am now for open with my thoughts. I live in the moment and am spontaneous. I enjoy the journey of a project and get satisfaction in the middle. When I take the test now I get a consistent read of INFP. Can prescription meds and therapy give a false read?

I agree for the most part, although I think you're a little too beholden to the MBTI model overall. All models are just representations of reality, and all models break down at some point - at some level of scrutiny. MBTI is not a perfect representation of reality; it's just a model. But a good model still has tremendous explanatory power, and MBTI is a pretty good model (although I prefer going purely by functions). I'm an INTP who typed consistently as INTJ for the first 24 years of my life (and who sometimes "mistypes" as an INFP now due to a pronounced Fi function). IMHO I am inclined to believe that if I was answering the MBTI questions in earnest prior to age 24 and I typed as an INTJ, then I was an INTJ then. If I answer the questions in earnest and type as an INTP now, then I'm an INTP.
But I agree that while it's possible to vacillate between INFJ and INFP in terms of your test results, they're really very different types. If you're "changing types" on a weekly basis the results are probably a failing of the testing methods more than anything.

Did you watch the video at all? Why take a model, then don't listen to what it describes and make it into whatever you want? If a test says you're another type than your initial one, it's a fault of the test. It's meant to give you a hint and does not a result that is the ultimate unchanging truth. If a took a test that said I'm a girl initially, then later said I'm a guy, I wouldn't say, hey guys I'm a guy now lol the idea of being one gender doesn't actually hold water. It just means that time, I answered the guy measuring questions more strongly than the girl measuring questions. A test doesn't hand you the ultimate, golden, holy unchanging truth.

@@PeaceLilies03 I find it hard to believe that people's cognitive functions don't evolve to some degree as they age. Most people at age 25 are not the same person they were at 15. Our brains are still developing. I don't approach rational thinking or emotional experiences or in general tackle life the same way I do now at 26. My life IS completely different. Edit: Therefore, as to Kelsey's point, if MBTI doesn't adjust at all then it is reasonable to doubt how well it functions as a representation of reality. Five or so years ago I typed as INTP. I now type as INTJ (consistently, on multiple sources and on tests that specifically test whether one is INTP or INTJ)...and it makes sense, because I have grown into a more decisive person, I have recognized and developed my sensitive Fi, and am more strategic as opposed to tactical (logical) with my Te. And yes...people can be one gender. People ARE one gender until they personally decide otherwise. Non sequitur tumblr-science comparison.
Please note: my argument doesn't apply to day-to-day results being inconsistent. That's just an inconsistent person.

I think I am an INFP but I can relate so much with INFJS- like reading others like a book and absorbing other people’s emotions. I also love theories and learning new information in general and I just be “knowing things too” and I am extremely analytical and I am pretty good at math and I hate small talk. But I am also in my head a lot to the point I miss things right in front of me and hit myself a lot (extremely clumsy), empathetic, love nature, and I am extremely creative ( I write poetry) and I also look at things(problems) from all the different angles ( logical but also not logical), I follow my own idea of principles/ morals and always do what feels “right” to me. I need to find a job that satisfies me but that also helps the world in any way and people always feel better after they’ve spoken to me- I can truly nurture someone emotionally and I am a nonconformist too. I love psychology. I find humans and animals fascinating. Overall, I have had issues knowing who I am as a person because I feel like I am a lot of things. Sometimes I want to know so bad and identify myself as one thing but then sometimes I am happy and enjoy the fact that I can’t be put into a box. I love being unique/ different.

      3) After you do the test and you get your result read the personality description. Try to figure out if you feel is 100% you. Read also the others personality descriptions.
4)If you are not sure ,last thing to do is to start studying the different functions (especially defining your inferior function is really gonna help) OR if you have money to spend go to a professional.

The reason for this is because these tests are not 100% accurate (which is why these tests are widely not accepted as fact by any psychologist or psychological organization). Don't get me wrong, I love Myers Briggs tests and think that they are super useful, but don't get too caught up in what the tests tell you. There are many questions on those tests that can be vague and although they will ask the same question in several different ways to avoid error in that way, it doesn't always work. A great scientific way to do it is to take roughly 4-6 DIFFERENT MBTI tests and you will def get one of the types more often than the other. The most accurate site in my opinion is humanmetrics.

This happened with my INFP friend cause she had a had very rigid set of rules I should say... I would suggest that you decide most of the questions based on what the questions actually imply rather than the context given.
Like for example when the test asks if you want to be the centre of attention in a party, don't think about the fact that it's different if it's a party with strangers or that you would behave differently if they were your family.
Instead understand that they implied whether you want to interact with people most of the time or if you prefer your own company. And if you are actually comfortable being the centre of attention.
I think that helps a lot in helping you discover yourself.

I think it is possible to outgrow our types.
    If you compare:
    INFJs are stubborn,
They are born with a boxes in their head, they know which toys goes to which box
INFPs are like the clutter in the floor figuring it out all the time
By continuous experience INFPs learn to group the clutter in the floor even making invisible boxes for them
While INFJs learned that clutter can be necessary too, and leaving things without putting them in the box can also be an option
That's it. I hope that helps

Thank you, thank you. Yours is a voice of reason and clarity. This guy gets it and all of this needed to be said and repeated. It's not about personalities, it's about preferred or default ways of handling information. People are taking the MBTI and treating it like horoscopes or personality disorders and giving it far more power and meaning than was ever intended. Keep doing this. People don't realize that although there are 16 macro types, within each of those types are infinite possible ways of blending. It's like a left-handed person can train himself to use his right hand more often, he's still left-handed, and his natural inclination will be to use his left hand. This is a great video. I'd stay away from the language of "demon functions" and talk more about dominant or preferred vs secondary or unused. Something like that.

I'm the same way, almost half and half. just remember each of these letters is "preferences" so even if you're 51/49 your preference is the 51%. It doesn't mean you're incapable of doing the other things. Also, the test is flawed, it can't get every person exactly right, and sometimes it's hard to really be honest with yourself when answering the questions. That's why technically with myers briggs you're supposed to have an expert analyze it, so you're not self-analyzing, cause then this happens.

I realize this was written a year ago, but I’m on a personality type binge. In short, the test you used is shit. The difference between an INFJ and an INFP is more than J vs P. They literally share no functions, so it’s weird there are tests designed that way. INFPs are Fi Ne Si Te and INFJs are Ni Fe Ti Se. A ESTJ shares more functions with an INFP than an INFJ. Actually ESTJs share all the functions that INFPs have in opposite order.

    • @lonnysutton5728

    • @Anonymous_Anon882
      @Anonymous_Anon882 2 роки тому

It’s not about judging vs. perceiving. INFJs, XSTPs and ENFJs have the exact same functions in different orders (Ni, Fe, Ti, Se). INFPs are the reverse and not even in a complimentary shadow way as with ENFPs (another type quite similar to INFJs). I know you look at the two acronyms and think that only the judging vs. perceiving functions are different but the differences go still deeper than that (ever-so).

Pretty sure I’m two types and it’s been helpful to me so far because the struggles and strengths of each type were both things I connected to. I think I can apply the advice from both. I think I don’t fit perfectly into any category, and I don’t think I’m special for that. I think most people don’t fit into one type perfectly, as this video acknowledges there are overlaps, and some people maybe just have more noticeable overlaps. I think I could just pick a type but I feel like wilfully ignoring that another type fits me too just because it’s apparently not supposed to would be a silly decision. I’m apparently INFJ and ISFJ, and I’m open to the possibility there’s been a mistake and I maybe fit perfectly into a category and maybe the category I fit is neither of those. But they both make sense to me.
I’ve been deliberately reading about the differences but the differences are often unclear. Like, apparently one type is supposed to focus on the big picture and the other on details. I’m not sure why I’m supposed to clearly prefer one to the other. It can be nice to look at the big picture, daydream about long term goals or how I would like the world to be, to strive to change systems in society for the better. It can be nice to focus on the details, to focus on editing someone’s writing, to focus on tweaking things rather than redesigning things, to focus on the smell of a rose rather than taking in the full garden. I think there’s the suggestion you either miss the forest for the trees or you get so caught up on the forest you forget to consider those individual trees.
There are places suggesting you have to either be empathetic and creative, or logical and practical. I’m not seeing why these are meant to be contradictions, as some places suggest. I value data and making decisions in response to what is known, but I’m also often looking at how to innovate and what could be done in future. I struggle with a lack of structure and I also need room for creativity and to feel I have meaningful purpose.
The profession I’m drawn to is teaching. Working in a highly structured work environment that requires a lot of data collection and responding to data. It also requires the ability to respond in the moment to unexpected changes (which is stressful but things not going to plan is always going to involve some level of stress, particularly when you’re legally responsible for others), and adapt lessons on the fly where needed. I’m also required to look long term and plan units that prepare students to be well-rounded people. I need to be able to look at the larger picture. I innovate in practice by responding to data collected. I feel like a lot of the traits being presented as if contradictions are in fact not.
So maybe I’m just being mistyped and actually fit perfectly into one of 16 categories that all ~8 billion people in this world fit satisfyingly into. Or maybe these tests are just useful tools for analysing yourself and if you’re able to find useful advice from multiple typings then that means the test worked for you. I think that, when it comes to personality tests, what matters most is that I’m a Hufflepuff.

I agree with you 100% that you can't change your MBTI type by time or development, but I do think an MBTI can change in situations where they suffered a traumatic brain injury or a major life or death crisis can change the wiring of the brain and behavior. I experienced this myself. I tested INTJ for many years and then after a near death crisis for me in the hospital where they even called a priest into my room to prepare me for passing away, after coming out of that and completely seeing life differently as a person, I started taking the MBTI test again and have tested INFJ ever since and that was in 2013. I was completely honest every time I took it and I still take it twice a year on average and I still am testing INFJ.

I'm definitely just as much INFP as I am INFJ. I don't fit into any other personality type at all, only those two. But those two fit me so perfectly, depending on what is said about them. I get INFJ in most tests, and I definitely have all of the spirituality, the self-sacrifice, the empathy, the deep emotions. But I also hate following a schedule, and I hate routine and tradition. I get extremely obsessed with the person I love to the point where I need to be with them 24/7 and nothing else matters to me. Everything is about people, and my relationships with them. But I get INFJ 4/5 times and INFP the rest.
Even using only the videos on this channel, I could be either INFJ or INFP depending on which video I'm watching. I have a very strong sense of identity. I have always known myself, my values, and my principles. And I don't go against them no matter the circumstances. But I still always put others first, and see the good in everyone, always able to see them for who they are. I can't say I'm more one than the other. I'm an INFJ who feels more like an INFP with every video I watch. I just have qualities of both, and they are just as strong and just as natural to me as each other.

I think what happens is the INFP inferior functions are more logical and control orientated. And when those are present or are showing it's easy for INFPs to think they're INFJ. However I was in an abusive relationship and tested myself shortly afterwards and got INFJ. It's interesting because I was robbed of a lot of the INFP and was surviving on my inferior functions which brought out a mixed result. After some recovery I was back at INFP. That's key. ESTJ can appear to be INFJ in a test if the inferior functions are dominating you at that moment. And mostly that's when you're in an unhealthy state of mind. (Not saying INFJs are unhealthy lol!! but a different result might occur because of other factors).

What they don't realise is that memes show the most stereotypical of each type so they sometimes won't relate to the stereotypical of their type and sometimes relate to the stereotypical form of other types

    When I’m drunk I’m an ESFP! 😜.
But I got sober and now I’m an INFJ... or P... 😳.
Believe you me I don’t think I’m special, just absolutely confused.
I don’t really want to be either type. I’d rather fit into the world-be more driven to succeed-or at least be able to work for “the man”, care more about the “bottom line” and just not worry about all the sh*# that gets to me about the f’d up people and systems and motivations in the world.
I really wish I could go back to the mothership (Starship Enterprise 😏) where we do things that make sense-technology, art and progress for the common good, acceptance of individual strengths, with a clear mission!!!

I was getting more INFJ, and sometimes INTJ in different tests so I made a list of questions and I linked it with how I was in my childhood and I asked my family about the different events that happened when I was young because I didn't want them to know about me learning typically and I got answers for most of the question...
I think when you are young you are not influenced by the world because you are protected by your family so you will understand what personality you are born with from your childhood batter then when you are grown-up
After all that I retook the tests and answered according to how I was in my childhood and now I know my type and it is INFJ
    I hope this helps ☺️

The last time I took the test, I had _four_ different types but lo and behold, I managed to narrow it down to INFJ and INFP as the types I related to the most. I relate to so many pieces of each of those types and I’m just trying to figure out which of those types I am and so that’s why I say that I’m INFJ and INFP because I’m in the middle of trying to figure out which of those I am

You say that INFP/J types think they are special, but actually, it is possible in taking the test to be borderline between P and J. And it is possible to take the test one day and score as J and another day and score as P. This happened to me. The first time I took the test, I scored P, but more recently I scored J. In another personality test whose name I can't remember, I also was borderline in some area of the test. It used colors and in one area I should have been blue or green but was actually somewhere between. I don't think I'm special (no more than anyone does), so I was bothered by your intro.

Are you possibly talking about sociotypes with the last thing?
Yeah agree today I took a test that basically said I'm an XXXP xD (But I think I'm between an ISFP, ISTP and INFP)
All my results except P said this, just switch with the appropriate functions, because I got 54-55%/45-46% on all of them except P:
"Your energy style is a blend of Introversion and Extroversion, and as such, you are neither a true Introvert nor a true Extrovert. For the purposes
of personality typing, you may call yourself an Introvert, as you do tend slightly to prefer this mode. However, it’s more accurate to say that you
are a bit of both Extrovert and Introvert: you tend to use both styles somewhat equally, or you may prefer one style over the other depending on
      the situation."
So it basically said I'm ISFP leaning, but pretty much only have a strong preference for Perceiving.
And I agree with it, because when reading about the functions, S/N and T/F I felt are highly dependent on the situation. (Which I think is why in the past I would always get a different result minus the fact I was consistently I & P)
Wouldn't a person with a high preference for a certain function have a different vibe from someone who uses a certain one almost equally?

Same because I’ve taken the test a few times over the last 6 years or so and each time it’s been 49%/51% for P/J and it will switch. I would get INFP or INFJ, and recently I got INFJ when I tested myself for the first time in 2 years. So I completely agree.

@@tanniapaolacastrohidalgo3449 Personally I like this quiz I feel like out of all of them: www.michaelcaloz.com/personality/
It actually gives you clear cut situations without the questions seeming too open ended. (Plus love how it tells you what order it'd place you for other types.)
I think part of the problem with a lot of the other ones is a lot of the questions feel too open ended in a way.
TBH even reading the functions I still felt like F/T were pretty 50/50 (I really don't feel like I have a preference in regards to this function)
So I had to actually had to read comparison charts between the difference for each type I thought I could be to come to a conclusion. (And taking the quiz above basically agreed with my conclusions.)

I know that I can't have both, and I'm pretty sure that I have Ni and Se, but I was testing myself for INTP for years. Sometimes I still feel more like that, because I can be so feeler-wise dumb sometimes, and I'm living more of a thinker-type life. It's pretty weird though, sometimes none of them feel right, but if I dig deeper, I'm absolutely an INFJ.

first and third function(hero and child) are both functions that share your intro/extro-version type. This makes them optimistic functions, and they are functions that initiate tasks. Of the two of them, the child function is the weaker but more spontaneous and optimistic. We get power from using them.
The pessimist functions finish tasks and do not like to initiate them, and do not share out intro/extro-version type. These are the second and fourth function. We lose power by using them since they are not our type.
This is why you like to think of yourself as INTP. The child Ti function is more visible to you than the hero Ni. And the Fe function is visible and draining, forced.

I've taken the test a few times over the years, I always land on INFJ, but on the test where it shows the percentage, my J is low single digits. I don't remember them all, but the last time I took the test, it was a couple of percent. It's always J, but it's right there at the edge. I've watched a few of these videos talking about the differences, and I've found that I can identify with some of both of the examples, it just depends on mood....and now that I'm internally proofreading, it seems mostly attached to feelings of depression, or emotional stress.
Now, I'm not one of those people who's trying to be some kind of weird multiple, I do consider myself very much INFJ, it just seems like in moments of sadness or depression, (as a male, I joke about my monthly cycle, but that's the closest example that's easy to describe) some of the behaviors discussed in the INFP videos pop out.
So, I guess it's a question that I have, really. This video does help, and I'm glad to hear honestly that you can't really be both. Makes me wish whichever part of the test was responsible for determining that J and P difference was 10 times longer and more thorough, perhaps I could more readily understand why I feel sorry for broken electronics when I'm depressed, and more anxious to shop for repair parts when I'm not.

I"m four type Fremont, Foo! I really dig your approach of nailing down your true type by the most painful function. So the question is which one gives me more the heebeejeebeez - Se or Te. I am going to study these functions and see which one upsets me more. I have ADHD type 3, hyperfocus so I have wicked issues with procrastination and doing things I am not interested in feels brutalizing to me but I am also really into personality studies including astrology which tends to be a pre-occupation of INFJs. Anyways, you gave me some more instight into this and for this I thank you!

Go find a REAL personality test like the 5 factor one that actual psychologists use and not just skit-tubers lean on.

I understand why some people would think that, because even in clinical psychology, there are variations of behavior.. based on changing variables. Some people feel depressed around certain other people, but are happy or feeling calm other times, places , etc. ~ For myself, I see I might have tendencies to think or behave a certain way, but it can /will ? definitely change depending on other factors, and I am never hardly ever , one behavior all the time. Life is so dynamic ! Now, that being said, I also know people who are habitual & ultra predictable, they are very regimental. ~ I wonder why people are drawn to trying to self analyze or be evaluated ? I think the underlying motivation is to be understood & understand others. There was a time when we took the time to do that.. rather than look for a brand or category, and say “ this is me “. I honestly think categorizing leads to limiting ones self & others. ~ Personally, I prefer being open minded & clear when I interact with people. 🌸

See, and that's part of the problem. Especially once some sort of narcissism is involved, suddenly things get really complicated. You start hearing stuff like "Oh I'm INFJ at home, but I'm ENFP at work." and while yes, as an INFJ, you can put on that mask to be able to function well at work, that doesn't make you two types. It just means that you learned through your environment, experience, or research how to act in those kinds of social situations, which as an INFJ, you excel at. And sometimes it goes the opposite way. Like that extrovert that thinks they're a lot more talented in Introverted thought than they actually are. You're not a gifted ENTJ with ISTJ 'gifted'ness, you just learned math faster than most others because maybe you vibed with your teacher better. Everyone can learn all skills if they put in the effort and learn how they work. People are just people, man.

I’ve taken several different tests and have gotten both INFP and INFJ depending on the test. Some tests show you the percentage of each trait and my Perception vs Judgment was 47-53% so, almost perfectly equal. So I guess it’s up to my own interpretation of myself to really pick which one I am. Only problem is, I can see both of them in me sometimes... so I just don’t know
