    Diane-you can't imagine how grateful I am for you and your wonderful approach to watercolor and life. I started my watercolor journey at the age of 70 last November, and have felt lost more than once as I tried painting in various styles. Ive learned a lot along the way, but your kind voice and watercolor approach resonates with me. You have helped me to be free to find my own style, and the joy I am finding now in watercolor is the result. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! If you are ever in the states, I hope you will come for a cuppa (tea or coffee!) and a visit in the Colorado mountains where I live with my husband of 50 years, our chickens and dogs. I appreciate you very much!

    Thank you for this Diane! It's so nice to see a simple loose piece - and forget the children, I think I'm going to do something on these lines tomorrow - the perfect way to relax! As for having all these recordings of us, you know what I always think? How lucky our children are that they'll have something when we're gone. The ONE thing I've missed more than anything is hearing my mum's voice - and I have nothing....... So, i will do one of these cheery paintings for her! :) xx

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  2 роки тому +1

      You are so welcome Ema. That's a good point, I have nothing sound wise of my mother either, and only literally two photos of her. Unimaginable to today's generation I suppose. But I'm not sure that overwhelming oneself with images of the past is good for the mental health either. We have to accept the passage of time, and being surrounded by film of "the way we were" doesn't do anyone any good. So a happy medium would be my choice - an album to look at occasionally and that's enough. Do you hear your mum's voice in your head? I'm sure I'd recognise my mum's voice at once if I heard her, even after the fifty years that have passed since she died!

    • @pebblecritter
      @pebblecritter 2 роки тому

      @@DianeAntoneStudio Oh goodness Diane! You must have lost your mum at a very young age, I'm so sorry, I can't imagine. I have my mum's voice in my head but it's not as clear as I'd like it to be - it's odd. I can hear other family members, and I can hear their words clearly, with my mum, it feels like it's a bit harder and I don't know why. I would LOVE to hear her voice - just a few words, that's all. I agree that we can't dwell in the past - that would be really unhealthy, but there are moments when things are challenging that I know her voice would pick me up - shake me out of whatever. :) BTW - I spent all morning painting circles and then using everything I had just to 'play' on top of the circles! I love creating something that has no purpose other than pure joy! It's also a great opportunity, as you mentioned, to try out different ideas and see if they work! My morning has been pure joy so thank you for inspiring me! xx

    Lately when I’ve just been sitting and staring at paper or canvas I start with spirals, using any media. This video was great. I find neurographic art very therapeutic. Try making the lines while pushing a penny or dime. It’s so much fun! (It is also part of a very serious therapy, and UA-cam has many videos about it. Worth watching.) Thanks for this 🌺

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  2 роки тому +1

      I have watched a few videos about the therapy side of neurographic art but the most interesting one talked about how there is a "free" version which uses swirly lines, and the more "therapeutic" version with the jerky, ever-changing-direction lines. So that's why I am using the idea of swirly lines to "break" the paper and make it possible for me to get creative. You know, there is SO much art on UA-cam but more especially on Pinterest it's hard to create anything that someone else hasn't already done similar to. Glad you enjoyed this video though x

      @@DianeAntoneStudio Oh, i agree, 100%. It works for me because whatever kind of line or circle or shape i draw, the connecting points are always different and they just let me zone out and be quiet while discovering new pathways. How beautiful!!!! wow!!! so simple but so perfect ....as a matter of fact perfect picture to hang over my bed.....only 12 years to know what I want!!! LOL!! Another gray summer day here, so I will definitely give it a go. Thank you for the wonderful idea! and yes, I corrected my granddaughter :& grandson to hold a paintbrush correctly many many years ago. Even tho she told me she didn't like painting, that is all she seems to do these days. At 12 she is quite the artist!!! I don't think the younger generation use their pencils enough and are less to get arthritis from it but they do type alot on their computers and will get arthritis in their joints or rather their thumbs!! I, myself started teaching myself to type (properly) from the age of 14 then worked on a typewriter from many, many years until the birth (or affordability) of a computer! To add to that many hours of piano lessons from the age of 8 to 14 and practice caused my joints to stay bent and now on days like today - high humidity and the threat of yet another storm, cause my fingers or rather the joints to hurt with arthritis.

    • @DianeAntoneStudio

      Hi Crafty Grandma!! Thanks so much for your comments and feedback! Your story is a lot like mine! Piano lessons and everything! I asked for and got a typewriter for my 10th birthday (ancient sit up and beg model!!!) and eventually learnt to touch type when I started working for a bank back in the early 70s. It has been perhaps the most important skill I've had over my life as I have used it continuously but never more than now as I type replies to your lovely comments in UA-cam land! I am lucky I don't have real arthritis in my hands although I do have a couple of fingers with carpal tunnel trouble, but I get by with my Golden Paste and a vegetarian diet!

    I just took a took a quick skim of this and I think it will help "loosen me up!" I have so many tutorials of yours I want to try - I feel like this is going to be a good one for the next gray, rainy day. Thank you for the advice on the spattering - it will definitely be helpful to me! I love the look of it to finish off paintings in a lot of your other tutorials. Even if a tutorial doesn't have it expressly, if I am using a painting to make a card for someone, like some of your "whimsical" birds and dogs, I add them! Since I mount the paintings on coordinating paper and then mount that on cards I have cut, it adds a little something so the background isn't so stark against my cards! Also, your "patter" when you paint is NOT "daft!" I love listening to you talk while you paint - don't ever stop!

      I know. It's shockingly awful and I can't watch UA-camrs who hold their brush or pen like that, it really makes me feel uncomfortable. Yes, if a person has a physical reason for using a primitive grip, not a problem obviously. But why give up all the fine control you have with a tripod grip (as we call it in the UK) for the jagged, irregular result you get from holding a brush in your fist. Beats me. Glad I'm not alone. Very relaxing 50 or so minutes thanks Diane. Though with all the bad things happening in the world today I dont think how some holds their pencil even compares sorry. There are many UA-cam artists out there who hold their pens & pencils in odd or strange ways..I think thats a very outdated idea telling kids how to hold pencils...love your art. Never tried gouche but love to get that bibrancy from my watercolours and acrylics.. have a happy day and thankyou for your time...btw you still sound like a teacher 🤭💐

      Yes Jenny, it is an outdated idea and I’m sorry but that’s because I’m outdated! I’m not planning on changing my opinions any time soon just because the majority of people have different ones to me. You are more than entitled to feel the way you feel think the way you think speak the way you speak and so am I. Hope you continue to enjoy the videos, despite our difference of opinion on the importance of how to hold a pencil! Best wishes Diane. Oh and by the way, I might still sounds like a teacher but I actually only taught for 2 1/2 years.

    So much fun with this…tried neurographic drawing with paint etc…I must prefer this approach concentrating on the painting & shapes,decorations etc.so vibrant…did something similar a few years ago..a refreshing change from the more structured compositions

    Lately I've been playing with neuro art, making the lines, rounding the corners, adding circles and colors. I took one of your dragonfly sketches and turned it into neuro art. Unfortunately, the pen I used wasn't waterproof and when I added watercolor, my lines bled :( I did another dragonfly that came out pretty good. I'll tag you in it so you can see it. I like the idea of taking your sketches and adding neuro lines and then coloring in. Anyway, this was a relaxing video and fun to watch you play.

    Needed to stop painting, because it’s not only painting you but also sharing your thoughts with us. To me it’s a crime not to reach children to write, to use a pen, to use a brush … not to use this beautiful connection between the brain and their fingers. I’m a former teacher, not for the arts. We had a time here in Germany where teachers were forbidden to teach children handwriting. They were only taught to write these printed letters … What a nonsense! They need handwriting and painting like some kind of daily food. They need to do something what fills their little hearts with joy. Using paint, creating something is one way. Painting my Gouache circles to calm down and following you I decided that this will be done also with my little granddaughter… she is only 15 month right now. But her time with colours and her granny will come, if only with her fingers to wake up the joy for colour 😁Sending you all my love from Germany

      Hi Martchen and thanks for your comment, very interesting. I'm so glad you want to introduce your granddaughter to color and art. I am so sad about the way our schools around the world have mostly abandoned the subjects and processes that bring children to life. I don't know if you have heard of Rudolf Steiner, and the Waldorf Schools, which you have many of in Germany? I worked in one, studied anthroposophical pedagogy, taught my own children in this way and later they went to a Waldorf school - where art is at the basis of everything they learn. I'm sure you know about this pedagogy. Anyhow, now, even the small amount of creative work that was formerly taught in schools has more or less disappeared because of computers. So sad.

      @@DianeAntoneStudio I agree with you completely. I know about the Waldorf concept and I support it. I’ve never taught there, but I had to be at their examinations. Students could stay there for 13 years to to all the examinations for attending later a university or something similar. Very often great results and in most cases really beautiful souls. The programs were great. Montessori also has a great concept. I had been working always in state schools, very often under high time pressure. Not really focussing on the child or the needs of an adolescent. Honestly I am now happy to be free. 😁🙋🏻

    I did this exercise today. I watched it the other day and read the comments. I’d never heard of neurological drawing. So I went looking on UA-cam.. it seemed like a good idea but I had to laugh when you said, I dont really following all those rules I take what I want then make up my own. Because that’s exactly how I felt. I don’t like all those squiggley straight lines. I like circles. And most of the ones I saw where, well, ugly. So then I decided I didn’t like their rules either 😂 Aw well.
