What's the humidity in the tank?

This is an awesome set up! My son has a beardie and wants to set up a habitat like this. He was asking do you clean the dragon poo out or let the springtails and isopods in the tank take care of that? In addition, do you get the springtails and isopods at a pet store?? Does the dragon eat them??

Yes we purchased them from the local pet store and the bearded dragon will eat the Isopods so when you release them into the habitat you need to be careful so the bearded dragon doesn’t see them, wait for them to borrow in somewhere. And yes we do clean up the dragon Poo when we see it.

@@aneiropa once your isopod colony has been established like a month or two after putting them in your enclosure than should have enough number to take care of the poop for you but your still going to have to pick up the white uraites they leave cause that doesn't really break down so easily

Actually, the whole purpose of the bioactive enclosure is for the springtails and isopods to eat the poop and then poop it out as fertilizer. You should only have to pick up the urates (white portion)

I’ve read some reptiles need calcium or calcium powder (?). Do dragons need it as well or can they get it through their diet?

      The short answer is yes.

Yes most need calcium and/or calcium d3. Bearded dragons specifically need both. Getting large amounts of d3 through a efficient uvb system. T5 lighting systems work best if you have them in the proper size tank. This is why they got a t8 because they are basically useless not providing a proper uv index for a bearded dragon. The t5 would be to powerful 40 gallon. In my opinion is too small for a full grown bearded dragon. Most reptile keepers would agree with me on all these facts. Opt for a 4x2x2 for a full grown dragon. I sure hope these people continue to expand there knowledge so their dragons don’t suffer.

Bearded dragons need calcium supplementation more than probably every other reptile. I cannot stress HOW IMPORTANT calcium powder is for them. They WILL get metabolic bone disease without it. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.
I recommend Calcium with vitamin D3 3x a week, plain calcium powder on the other days, and reptile multivitamin twice a week.
Good luck to you on all your herping journeys!!!
