LA PALMA when the Cumbre Vieja sizzles...

The island is nicknamed La Isla Bonita - the beautiful island. And indeed, the beautiful, colorful vegetation above which the clouds climb can be seen right from the city's waterfront.
Clear skies prevail in summer. But a flow from the Sahara called Calima can also come, which significantly worsens visibility. The average temperature now at the end of November is 20 C and it often rains.
From the promontory itself in the south of the island, a belt of 30 volcanic vents runs inland. It is a desert area around the Fuencaliente crater, named after a hot spring that disappeared in the 17th century when a volcanic eruption buried it.
Even here, at Playas del Faro, it was quite recently lively. The eruption of the Tenugia volcano in 1971 expanded the area of ​​the island by tens of hectares. At that time, the lava stopped just before the newly built desalination plant.
However, the most recent eruption on the island began recently, on September 19, 2021, in the Cumbre Vieja massif. The eruption has been going on here for the third month and it looks like it won't end anytime soon. It is already the longest eruption on this Canary Island in 500 years. I have been there for 4 days and every day the volcano looks different.
On the last day of November, a crack appeared on its side, through which a huge amount of magma flows in two streams.
Sometimes the volcano spews smoke and ash several kilometers high, and airlines have to cancel some flights because of it.

Na La Palmu se už nějakou dobu chystáme, ale když to tam soptí, tak dáme raději zatím přednost tomuto nádhernému dokumentu. Ne že bychom se báli sopky, ale nějak nám to přijde nepatřičné jezdit očumovat, když tam spousta lidí přišla o všechno, proto děkujeme, že jsem si to mohli takto prohlédnout i se zajímavým komentářem.
