This video will show you how to replace the WE1M1067 and WE1M504 bearing slides, WE3M26 bearing, WE12M29 drum belt and felt assembly. (kit part number WE49X20697 used for demonstration)
Nice that GE puts repair videos out themselves. Definitely something to consider when buying new appliances. I just replaced the drum slides (bearings) on the front of my dryer and it took 45 minutes and cost less than 50$ total. Sad thing is that 99.9% of Americans would have just bought a new dryer. People have no capability or desire to be self sufficient and economical. That's very sad imo.
But... There's a market for used appliances that technicians will fix and resell, manufacturers remain in business by selling updated products, the GDP increases and the velocity of money in the market makes the world go round.
The real issue here and what's really sad is the quality of everything, appliances, cars, equipment, tools etc. has gone downhill drastically. There are instances where certain customers may not be able to complete the repair themselves, they physically can't, it's not a mental or know how issue. So they'll call a tech to come out and diagnose the problem, this can then go 1 of 3 ways. 1. Tech exaggerates the cost of the parts and labor to repair the appliance. In the hopes the customer will still choose to repair it. 2. They give the honest price and the customer chooses to repair it. 3. Or even if they're honest and they give the real price of the replacement parts to the customer, there are times where it's simply more cost effective to get a new one. The companies manufacture them in this way also. So they will get the initial purchase money out of the customer, lets just say $1000 for simplicity sake, then 2 years down the road the appliance breaks and it costs $600 to fix it. They know most people will simply pay another $1000 for a new appliance. Why make 1600 when you can make 2000. Even if the customer says, the hell with brand X, I won't buy another one of those after it broke down in 2 years, I'm gonna buy a brand Y. They know there is just as many customers that bought a brand Y initially and now they're headed out to buy a brand X this time around. They're all made to the same standards, hell they probably get the same components from the same suppliers. It might be a $100 component that actually went bad but they'll manufacture them in a way to where you can't get at the $100 component, you need to replace the entire $600 component instead. Obviously this dryer doesn't seem to be that way, at least not for the slides or belt. But I would have to imagine we've all run into the exact scenario I'm describing here at some point on something. I've even been one of the people to say, hell with it I'll get a new one. I work from home on the computer now, drafting and CAD work. But I was a journeyman carpenter for over a decade and rebuilt my 2 stroke dirt bike engine (top and bottom end) when I was 10 completely on my own for the first time and unfortunately that's not something that ever stops haha. So I'm not a stranger to working with my hands. It's just how they get ya because after you just fixed the dirtbike, sled, car, truck, replaced the water tank and pump in the house, fixed the dishwasher, etc etc etc. Sometimes you just say yeah, nope not doing it, I'll spend the extra 20-30% to be able to just relax for a few hours instead. Plus the new appliance is right at the store 20mins away. The part is 3 days out. As soon as the manufacturing moved to communist china and these companies and politicians basically sold out America, the American worker it wasn't a huge leap for them to stick it to the American consumer also.
@@geraldkeyes4851 I agree the throw away society is made up of only a few people. If people are throwing away a squeaky dryer chances are there’s other reasons such as getting a nice upgraded set.
thank you so much for making this video. I recenly bought my dad and siblings a used washer and dryer and the drier had this problem I literally fixed it today while watching your video. Thanks so much!

Great instructional video, but watch out for the color changes in the kit! I ordered the exact kit part number referenced here, and the bearing slides are not grey and white! The new ones matched the lower bearing slides, but the uppers are a bright white color instead of grey! So follow the part numbers instead!
I see two possible ways to install the felt sea. Please tell me which is correct: #1. Does the wide side of the seal lie flat against the back of the channel so that the lip of the tub presses straight into it. This will make it necessary to twist the seal 90° on each end to secure it as the excess sticks out of the channel. #2. Does the wider side of the felt seal lie flat on the bottom of the channel so that the tub rides on top of it?
Good video, but you don't have to completely remove the door front panel or the upper bearing. 1. Open the dryer door and remove the top two screws inside the dryer door. Use a No. 2 Phillips screw driver. 2, Lift the lid from the front, and set it aside. 3. Remove the top two inside screws from the top of the front panel assembly. Access them from the inside where the top lid was removed. Use a no. 2 square screw tip. 4. Lift the drum with one hand and pull out on the top of the front panel assembly and just lean the top against your tummy. 5. Important: Check the dryer felt seal while you are there. If need be replace it or take it out and trim it then reinstall it. Note to remove and replace it you'll have to pick up on the front panel and slide the right side out while not pulling the wires on the left side. Just move it like there was a hinge on the left side. If you didn't have to slide the door open then move on the the bearings. 6. Remove the old slide bearings and replace them with the new ones: a. With the old bearings removed install the top center two with the dark grey ones. Place the hole on the right tab, pull up on the middle and place the notched sides in the rectangular hole on the left and push down gently to seat it. b. Repeat the process for the outer lower bearing slots with the white Teflon bearings. 7. Reassemble the dryer in reverse process. I just did this today, worked like a charm. 8. I would recommend just replacing the whole top bearing assembly, the bearing tabs, the felt and the rear drum bearing. That's about $50.00 bucks and your dryer should last another 10-15 years. Thanks for sharing your nice video with us. GE. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya
Hi Greg, Thanks for asking, we'd like to help as best we can. Can you provide the complete model and serial numbers of your appliance? If you need help locating those numbers, you can use this page: spklr.io/6059cSCl Hope to hear from you soon. -MS
WE1M1067 is the gray slide in video. If your is white, it will have a round hole at one end and small notches at the other end. WE1M333 is the white outer slide and has straight edges at the other end.
On my dryer, the pully arm does not lock. I was unable to pull the pully and thread the belt at the same time. Solution! I ran a string around the pulley's arm (make sure the string is on the backside of the wheel so it will not interfere with the belt) and around the gas vent on the other side of the dryer. I then pilled the pully arm as far back as possible holding it back with the string. Once the belt was threaded I cut and removed the string
I replaced the front panel and bearing slides two weeks ago and already it's getting shredded up again. Any suggestions? Is the drum weighing too heavily on the front bearing?

Which method did you end up using? I'm about to make this repair with a drum bearing kit and am curious.

Thanks a lot, short and sweet.
Here I was ready to buy a new dryer. $20 and 20 minutes later and it’s back up and running.
A lot of replacement parts are coming with a white and clear/opaque slide. Which one should be on the top? Thanks

Where is a link to that exact part?

Did you put the correct slides in the right place? The slides with square ends go on the side and the T-shaped ends go on top.
Yes, I had triple-checked it. I have since replaced the whole kit again and it's been working fine
Very helpful 😊
Great video, thanks !!
Thx helped alot
THANK YOU
