Google Duplex: A.I. Assistant Calls Local Businesses To Make Appointments

  • In an amazing demo at Google I/0, Google's Assistant can actually ring up a salon or a restaurant to make an appointment for you. You don't have to call yourself even if the pizzeria doesn't have an online reservation system.

      That’s when the entire system is automated, basically what’s happening with apps when you’re booking something... they show you availability and you select the best slot.
      You don’t need verbal communication which is super slow for computers to communicate

    • @vijayabhaskar-j

      This won't be happening, it can simply send 1kb of data and the AI at other end can understand the data and book your reservations, saving data, time, processing power etc..

This just an exaggeration, I don't think it will be this bad, but if it did and it killed us all,an intelligent life will still surf after billions of years after us, which is kinda of good considering no intelligent will exist if we didn't take the risk, this is a really really big exaggeration, and the jobs that are lost, will force humans to work harder for better opportunity in thier life, which is something that we really need to work on.

      At some point at least a part of society stops using regular communication and just focuses on optimizing desired end results. Then again with that in mind people might want both at the same time. Why get rid of older forms of doing things when we have the tech and resources to choose how to live our lives. Terrans vs comists or whatever I suppose. But from that perspective of society wanting to become something new and everybody else not wanting to change too much both could just be different lifestyle choices that are on bigger technological scales.

    • @bengriffin1506

      Bigger relative to standards of the past of what is actually feasible. Like a Dyson sphere that has Amish people living in it on they planet on some farm somewhere despite what other people are doing. Like the movie The village but Jetsons floating around outside the walls.

      I got access to a demo version of Gemini and it's very impresive! It can't make appointment calls for me, but it's way better than google assistant. It even made a one-week meal plan according to my preferences very successfully! And I even made about half of those dishes...
      The problem why this technology hasn't been rolled out, might be the users! What would stop people from abusing the tech and jamming many business's schedules?!
      All the components for this are already in use... You have accessibility features on phones which enable def people to make phone calls and just write and read the conversation, while at the other end the other person has a normal talking conversation... So why can't this be plugged in an AI chatbot?! And the chatbot part is really good! It can sustain a conversation and take into account what has been said up to that point... etc...

      Kaz will doing messed up stuff in games become restricted or taboo once the ais are more convincing or debatably conscious? Probably not even if the game is GTA as they wouldn't need to feel pain but can act better than any human so it's still convincing. But will people want to do it once it's too real? Probably just be gross and too much to handle ya know? No worries.

    • @bengriffin1506
      @bengriffin1506 5 років тому

      Here's a thought though in what capacity would NPCs be part or wholly one ai or a network of more than one? Depending on that answer would they have subjective experience and if so why would they want to basically perform a job as an actor? So maybe the level of convincing would be stuck at a certain level. Or the desire for that kind of entertainment wouldn't ever be feasible because once it works no one wants to be the npc? Oh well at least there's other forms of entertainment than roleplay

The descendants of this AI won't be making random calls, they'll be accurately determining if a crime is going to be committed before the person even realizes they're going to commit a crime. This is a similar concept to the AI Google used to determine if people had specific types of cancer. Google's AI was substantially more accurate in predicting if people had cancer than the doctors were.
      But anyway if the AI determines you're on the path to commit a crime the AI network will probably learn how to talk people out of committing the crime they don't even realize they're going to commit. Maybe that makes you feel better, but it also means that without augmentation of our brains our lives will be inescapably controlled by AI.

      Avery Kucan yeah, it's best to try to talk to someone who knows English. She shouldn't be working there if she can't speak English.
