  • What is Serbia like? Neither of us have ever been here or even considered coming here in the past, but vanlife brings you to some wonderful places, and we really couldn’t be happier that its brought us here. In today’s video we explore the very beautiful Fruska Gora National Park and then make our way towards Belgrade to enjoy some time in the city.

    ⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
    We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. So after waiting for six months for the borders to reopen in Ireland we have finally hit the road in June 2021 and spent 90 days enjoying vanlife in Spain. Now we have finished our time in the very beautiful Spain and spent two months along the stunning coastline of Croatia and have arrived in Serbia.

    Serbia is 10 times prettier in late spring an summer...When it's worm and sunny...Country looks completely different...But everyone comes from november to april... I don't know why..I guess because Serbia dosen't have seaside so they go to countries with sea at summer and in Serbia come when it's cold ,gray ,misty 😟

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 роки тому +9

      Yeah I think you are right lots of people like to be beside the sea in Summer. We are used to cold and gray from the UK, but so far we have found Serbia to be incredibly beautiful with the Autumn colours. Perhaps we will have to come back and see it again in the Summer 🥰🥰

    I’m liking Serbia also . Here in the USA a lot of our monuments were recently taken down . Although they were historical they offended some groups of people. We even had to rename a baseball team called the Cleveland Indians even though it was proven the team was originally named that to honor the Indian people . I just don’t understand. So I liked the monument .

    You should check out northern Serbia...That's best of Serbia...With cities like Subotica ,Sombor ,Vrsac,Sremski Karlovci, Pancevo...And many more beautiful little towns...South and southeast of Serbia is rural, post communist industrial region...Coming to Serbia and not visit north { almost half of the country } is like going to Croatia and not visit coastline

      Wow I wish I knew all this wonderful stuff about Northern Serbia, the guide books I read barely mentioned anything about the north!! Because we are heading south to Turkey for December we have to make our way down, now I'm sad we missed all this good stuff, but hopefully see lots of beautiful nature along the west on the way down, we have lots of map pins. love that van,how much it costs to build something like this in a van,and do you need to change something about the van like motor or tyres or whatever? :) :D

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 роки тому +4

      Thankyou, the price depends on what materials you use, we have seen people do it for as little as £500 using reclaimed wood and camping stove with no electricity etc. Also seen people do it for £20k using fancier appliances and materials. You don't have to change anything about motor or tyres, just have to be very careful not to go over the weight of the van, try to use light materials. It needs to be insured specifically as a campervan, but it's actually cheaper insurance than normal van insurance.

    Many travel/tourist guides arent fully acurate bcs guides are made by different people that get replaced al the time.Also with guides it also gets so to say politicized meaning if a country where the guides resides is negative/has like interest in degrading a country and have that policy its news,tourist guide books,leaflets would represent/follow that just the guide books would be much more subtile about it and wont be as straightforward bcs it needs to maintain that sorta neutral image/view even thou if you are versed in politics/geopolitics and if you carfuly follow ones countries policies you can actualy preaty easy see patern where what countries goverment apraoch is then its news,institutions follow.From guide boooks,travel reccomendations,to then this and that and so on.As i say to everyone DONT 100% believe what some leaflets/guide books say bcs those guides also are a buisness and also need to follow certain rules of following the countries /goverments stances,not to mention lobbying part of where many countries can lobby in those tourist guides to get featured on/reccomended but also at the same time can lobby for negative/bit more negative press/guide focuses on more negative aspecs rather than positive ones and in that way paint a certain picture of one place.That why i always say dont read some tourists guides but instead go to that place yoruself,stay for like month or two and then get the oppinion of the place.IMO you cant get an oppinion of any place without spending minnimum 1 month in it bcs atleast with month you can get to exlplore more and see different things than being just 1-3 days or a week sorta be like transit country or be one of those stay one day and say how you traveled to that place when in reality it wasnt anything but staying just few hours.
