Ex-independent inspector here. MOT tester for 10 years then moved into inspecting for 10 years. This is EXACTLY why I provided an inspection video on a USB drive (branded btw) with every single inspection. I was far from the cheapest but you know with every single one of my inspections were carried out to the highest standard. I was removed from a number of inspections for taking too long and taking too many photos/videos. If you're paying me £300 to inspect your car, I'm going to do the best possible job. The fact so much stuff was missed in their inspection does not shock me at all. That is why I stopped doing what I was doing. A lot of my work was re-inspecting other people's works and ended up fighting with large companies because of their low standards. It tired me out, they couldn't do anything legally but wouldn't stop them calling / emailing me. First line of "defense" it was not like that when we inspected it. Enough said.
Hello James, well, that "Jeep" needs a scrapyard and the person who did the inspection must have had sunglasses on to miss all of those rust spots / holes! Well done for offering to sort out a good deal for the lady, but, if thats her choice, let it be! Best wishes from Lincolnshire.
Hello from Ireland again, James. My God, there is Zero chance, that anyone looking under that Jeep, never mind Testing it lol. Lovely Van, James, I haven't seen that one before. Keep up the great work, buddy. 🙏🙏🥰👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
Chops , on that megane , I once had a bird that had the same methane, hers wouldn’t start, Renault couldn’t find the fault , I was determined as wanted To get in to her knickers , I found a large fuse which kept blowing because of an issue with the heater motor if I recall, if I remember rightly it was up near the bulkhead on drivers side , I think there was 2 and were something like 40 amp and basically a big automotive fuse, definitely worth a look mate. I never got into her knickers, I got drunk and fell asleep on her 😂😂😂
Welding plates on the outside of the Jeep chassis without spraying the inside with rust converter and something like Lanoguard means that the rust will come through again within a few months. The whole chassis needs to be de-rusted and sealed or it will eat away the chassis beyond repair. It looks like someone has been using it as a winter hack on salty roads, so the salt will be everywhere doing its evil work. It looks like a shed load of trouble for the next 6 months. Lesson learned, never buy a 4x4 without checking the chassis, owners take them green laning, scraping over rocks and driving through rivers, the chassis is the first thing to check.
Definitely no wet belt on the transit connect just had my focus done with same engine just last week. normal belt did check when I saw your video you made me check.
Hi James the megane, the ECU hasn't got wet has it, a few years back a friend had a coupe one of them and the ECU got bit wet, he took it out dried it out and cleaned the connection bits then it fired straight up, if it's not that, it could be the immobilizer/ remote locking receiver in the roof they are terrible for playing up on these and clios, hope that helps

I'd still love to see the Megane brought back to life. Good old French electrics. What you need is a retired Renault mechanic like Jon Coupland's dad, Pete. Now there's a legend
Hi James. Ref the Transit. It has both a chain and a belt, but more Importantly it's not a 'wet belt'. There's a chain that connects the 2 camshafts and a belt that drives the crank. No interval on the chain, the belt interval is around 100k or 10 years. We recommend them at 8 years or 80k. Keep up the good work! 😎

I had a Renault Megane, would stop intermittently, and not start. It had a high pressure Fuel pump with a sensor built in, Sensor was faulty. Replaced pump complete it and all good onwards
@@ChopsGarage yes, but during the service you're supposed to look for upcoming issues , then prevent them from becoming an issue. Not saying there is an issue with the van, just saying id never use halfords, kwikfit etc
Halfords do a lot of Govt fleet stuff. They do charge peanuts for work. Hence the fleet co's giving them work on brand new cars. BUT ask yourself does the work actually get done or just a "stamp in the book".

Jeez, what do you mean nobody can fix the Megane? Are there no decent mechanics left these days? Its the same around here. We have a Vauxhall van that wont start and the garage we use cant fix it. It seems like mechanics these days are so reliant on the diagnostic computers to tell them the fault, that when the computer cant pinpoint the fault eg. a broken wire in the loom etc, they are stumped!
Can't believe they missed that on the Jeep. Is the plan for the jeep once finished to retail it, keep it to enjoy it, or trade it on? Have a great week James.
Yeah I'd never trust Halfords with anything. Once had them fit both main beam lamps on a Ford Fiesta. The most common car on UK roads at the time so their guys must all have been familiar with these cars. When I got home I noticed the lights shining very high at the sides, checked and the Halfords "engineers" had fitted the lamps upside down so they fell out of their sockets as soon as I set off. To think they might have done any work correct never mind actually done the work that they invoiced for during services is laughable.
I am still interested in the Jeep but my offer is dropping. Sure the floor pans have some holes and the frame has a few But some thick underseal will cure it.
How on earth did you end up with a 25 year old rust bucket Jeep and what thought process went through your head to retail it? I'd say you've dodged a bullet, reverse the deal and send it to auction.......
Halfords right, yes will charge but doesnt mean its done. People who go there wouldn't have a clue plus any mechanic any good wouldn't be working at halfords.
Did the 2 guys who inspected that Jeep have a guide dog with them , any fluid leak on the floor is a mot fail but that chassis looks a bit crispy . Sure your men at Moors will put it right but its going to cost a bit good luck James
@ telling the customer they perhaps needn’t pay their third party inspection as the vehicle is significantly worse and making that into a positive is a stretch. We all know it’ll be fixed and you are a good guy, but obvious holes in sills etc (and not knowing about them) and putting a car on retail sale in that condition isn’t ideal. Imagine the explanations needed had trading standards randomly inspected the vehicle or a tv documentary they’d have a field day. It’s about knowing what you are selling before presenting for sale and finding major faults can never been seen as a positive.
