What has worked best for me is keeping a list of things I think I want to buy, then waiting a week or two before actually shopping. In most cases, I don't even remember why I wanted that thing by that time! 😊
This is the best strategy, I agree! 🌸
“Prioritise freedom” absolutely right without it we have nothing.
Ana, you are such a delightful and gentle soul. Your kind and peaceful way of being in the world is my Sunday tonic. Thank you.
Aww, it's so kind of you to say this ❤️ Thank you!
Thank you for your wisdom which is based on real personal experience. 🌷
I ALMOST went to the art store yesterday because I wanted 1 markers, when I already have over 1000...... good thing I stopped myself before I went to spend more money! 😂
Enjoyed your tips and conversation, thank you.
Always so good to see you, Ana!
I've given up driving, partly to save money and partly to stop contributing to the environmental crisis. You and Brian seem to get around pretty well on public transport and just walking. I admire that and aspire to be more like you guys! Maybe a video on how you manage your transportation needs would be interesting?
I find in America, A car is a must.
I gave up a car 7 years ago now and don’t miss it a bit. I walk and take advantage of public transportation and find I feel more connected to my neighborhood.
@@lynnnilges6155 excellent alternatives you're using! I bought a bike with cargo space and now I do 90% of my shopping and in town errands. It's great.
Hi Ted! We do love using public transport and walking wherever we can. I don't know what it would be like if we lived in a less pedestrian-friendly country...
@@anagoldberg Hi Ana, You are so resourceful and imaginative that I'm sure you two would find a way to get around where ever you are.
I have observed that, throughout the pandemic, when we were forced to shop online, we got used to doing so. But, we have now pushed the limits of that experience, and are tending towards a more social shopping experience once again. We are longing to share our activities with others, eat common meals together again, and become healthy in mind and body once again.
I appreciate your views so much, and the gentle, considered delivery ❤
Your videos are very inspiring and very well researched, mixing with your everyday life makes them more mindful 😊
Thank you, my friend 🌸
I appreciate you sharing this. I use a few delivery services as I'm disabled. Still, I am very thoughtful about when I use them. I also recheck what's in my cart and whittle it down. ❤❤ Bless you, Ana.😊
Thank you for sharing, dear Michelle ❤️ Rechecking the cart is such a great tip! Sending love, my friend 🌸
Enjoy all of you videos so much. Inspiring. Informative. Your warm and kind personality shines thru all. Wise beyond your years as well. Keep up the good work!
You're so kind, Sandy 🌸 Thank you!
Ana, thank you for another calm and thoughtful video. I do not do "no buy" either, but I do shop online for things I cannot buy in my town. There is a small food shop nearby where I can buy things I need urgently, otherwise I do one of two things: I go into town (half an hour away) perhaps once every three of four weeks, and I stock up maybe every two or three weeks with an online grocery shop. I do not buy things on impulse. I buy only things I have thought about for at least a few days. This is what works for me.
This is such a thoughtful approach to shopping! Thank you so much for sharing, dear Amanda ❤️
Great message, Ana, thank you for your content. I certainly sometimes feel as a fish swimming against the current by following this intentional philosophy.
Useful conversation. Thanks!
I always enjoy your insightful videos ! Also the ones about your wardrobe !!! In this one I may differ a bit from your and others’ opinions. Although I do some local shopping in my small town, when it’s about bigger towns/cities, online shopping works best for me. In terms of being selective & buy only what I need/reasonably. But I am well aware that may be because I have general anxiety disorder : physical places and too much choice and people around is always a problem for me to focus. I am on the minimalist side and this is one of the lessons I learned during covid : shopping online (clothes in particular) gives me much more clarity and also this is how I found brands that work for my tall frame which has resulted in wardrobe that fits me better, more satisfaction with fewer items, therefore more money for quality and even more satisfaction and more self confidence. So this my own little freedom :) … along with less social medias !!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind support, Linda ❤️
A wonderful, philosophical video ♥♥♥ I agree 100% !!! And having been a person with an addiction problem (bulimia) I completely share your attitude and your thoughts about "strict resctrictions": they are not only the wrong ( = not a) solution to a problem, they might be an indication of a persistent problem (i.e.addiction) too. The only problem I see, in your reasoning, is about shopping in real shops, beacause of the gradual disappearence of them: I'm still priviledged to live in a city where real shops still exist, but even here, in Rome, they are fewer and fewer and some specific kind of shops tend to disappear... there is what we could call a "physical pressure" towards shopping online...
I would call myself an Optimalist - I just have enough to survive and to thrive but still to enjoy my life. I picked up crocheting a few months ago which I am loving a lot, but that means I have to buy yarn and crochet hooks and after I completed a crochet project, that is another item added to my home. I only buy my clothes if necessary in 2nd hand / charity shops. Sometimes though I am too hard with myself I think. I don't have many clothes, but I can see that the T-shirts which I own (and bought 2nd hand) are quite worn out already - certain spots you can see through the fabric, the elastan/acrylic fibers are coming out and that's a point where I think to myself that I should really replace them. The other part in my head tells me though that it's still ok to wear them at home or that nobody will notice the "tear and wear" spots.
Thank you Ana,
In don't care whats expected but i WANT stuff. Started with collecting records as a teenager decades ago and this has no end, and today theres endless other toys. Actually i have so much stuff/hobby projects that i am stressed because i realize i won't have time to use/play with/enjoy all of them. A kid with too many toys. And still buy more.
You can do whatever you want with your life, but for me, I prefer a few really nice things and am careful not to buy too much crap to end up in the landfill or burdened with trying to get rid of it.
Hi Ana! Prioritizing what you actually want and need is so important in creating a minimalist life! Great video! Have a beautiful week!
Thank you, Marcia! You too, have a lovely week 🌸
Hi Ana, I enjoyed your video, thank you.

Very useful reflections…

Thank you, Elizabeth ❤️
Hi Ana, thank you for your video❤. Always such words of wisdom. Take care Gale x
Thank you for this super interesting video, which make me think about some of my buying decisions and decluttering habits❤️❤️. Lots of love to you and Brian , Anke 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️❤️
Thank u
Can u recommend more info, books, blogs about how restrictive behavior triggers addiction prone people. I knew this, I just did not have words for it , as soon as I or someone impose something to me.. I go against that, many times ruining good outcomes. Kind of a rebellious against any imposed self imposed/ stronger constraints or even demands. Thank u
Hi Emanuela 🌸Unfortunately, I haven't heard anyone talk about this in more detail, but I'm sure there are books or videos about it, I will have to look more thoroughly! Yep, I feel the same about any constraints...
Thank u
I watch you with pleasure and benefit. I stopped using my credit card for years and sold my car seven years ago. I would love to know how to sew, but I found a tailor and I wear natural fabrics. I just joined you.
I'm glad to meet you here, my friend 🌸 Having a good tailor is great luck!
These are the most excellent, thoughtful tips! Truly appreciate them & will apply them. Thank you so very much! :)
I'm so glad the video resonated with you 🌸 Thank you!
I just returned some items to Amazon...in the end, I didn't need them 😂
😊😊
Although I support the idea of shopping in stores, for those of us with disabilities, this can be really challenging. I have decided to do my grocery shopping myself, but it is very difficult. I often run out of oxygen before I can get out of the store. If you have any ideas for those of us with disabilities, it would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, I have no advice or tips for such situations, dear Ginger. I just never experienced anything like that in my life and I can't imagine, nor I feel entitled, to give any recommendations...
💚
❤❤❤❤
one thing that really helps me to buy less is when something looks really good but has bad reviews - it's easy to go wait a second, do I really want to spend $40 on a cute work tote bag that all these people said started falling apart after a month? Nope, of course I don't! tab closed lol.
❤❤😊
If Ana came in a pill, I’d carry a little bottle of Ana pills around with me during the day just in case I needed a dose of Ana help.

Shopping is fun ! It's good for the economy! Plus it gives me something to look forward to in making life nicer along with hiking and nature walks. There's nothing wrong with shopping and wanting more as long as it's in your budget and it's useful and beautiful.
As Y.N. Harari says in his book Sapiens: Man needs 1500-2500kcal/day to live. Everything else is a luxury.
We tend to exaggerate when we describe our needs and believe whatever we like is a necessity.
