That's exactly what they were doing in her case. Neither hospital would perform a D&C, like she wanted, because the fetus had a heartbeat & they couldn't definitively say she was miscarrying.

As a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, I am devastated by our state legislatu oppressive decision to add mifepristone to the state’s controlled and dangerous drug classification. The women of Louisiana MUST get to the polls and vote for Biden to ensure that our repro rights are restored and codified into law.

This woman deserved medical care and didn't get it. In the ancient times, women had their babies in the forest under the shelter of the trees and with at least one dedicated, caring midwife. There was a genuine concern about women's health and our modern hospitals can't even provide bare bones care?

Kaitlyn, I’m so sorry you went through this. Thank you for speaking out. Things just got worse for medical providers. It just became easier to monitor prescribing practices of those suspected of actually providing care. In March, Louisiana women learned how little our voices matter. Reproductive healthcare will not appear on our ballots. At least, not yet. Shout out to Aimee Adatto Freeman, LA House of Representatives for trying. We cannot give up.
Kaitlyn Joshua is an amazing messenger for this. I wish she didn’t have to go through the life experience that’s made her so great, but she’s taken a n absolute nightmare and users it for good. This is the most overused word in the English language, but this woman is a HERO.

So it is now obvious candidates to state elections should have to pass an IQ test and basic medical knowledge about obstetrics before being allowed to vote on laws that risk screwing up women's medical care. What a bunch of loonies. In Canada it is theoretically legal to abort up to the day before delivering a fetus. And a pregnant woman's handicap (the father) has no say in that. I hope LA is offering free birth control pills. I used to get mine from planned parenthood. The superior ct didn’t try to overturn. Not all of the contents of the uterus are expelled naturally when a woman miscarries a pregnancy. Medical intervention is often needed to clear the uterus and prevent infection. And the medical name of the procedure is abortion. It is billed under the procedural term. It is listed in a woman's medical history under the procedural term.

as soon as these laws are in place, the malpractice insurance companies review them very closely, and they tell the hospitals and the doctors which procedures will and will not be covered. the hospitals and doctors then act accordingly.

To you and me, sure, miscarriage and abortion are two different things.
*Medically* they are not necessarily different. For example a miscarriage can be medically treated by an 'abortion procedure' - it's not what you and I think of as 'abortion' but *medically* it is referred to as such.
This is why the laws are dangerous and putting lives at risk. If the treatment a woman needs in order to survive a miscarriage without sepsis is 'an abortion procedure' then that woman is not permitted to get that treatment in a state that has banned *all* abortion procedures.
