Prior to recording this longplay, the only version of RoboCop Versus The Terminator I'd played/owned was the Sega Genesis. It's not a particularly innovative game, but the depiction of crumbling dystopia, giving way to eventual battles against Skynet and its army of endoskeleton nightmares, was good fun. I loved the graphical style, particularly the way enemies got blown apart in gory, pixelated chunks, was very cool.
Moving over to the Super NES, I'd expected the game to be the same. Given Nintendo's stance on violence and market positioning as being the family-friendly option, I'd expected the violence to be toned down compared to the Genesis, but I hadn't been expecting quite the number of changes as there are.
The levels between the two versions are broadly similar, and follow a similar arc, but Interplay, who handled development of this particular version, felt compelled to layer on some dull and pointless exposition through the use of comic book-style cutscenes. I get that the origins of the RoboCop and Terminator crossover stem from this medium, but I just found these sections dull, overly long, not to mention occasionally confusing.
To be honest, the gameplay isn't much better. From the level design to the enemies you face, everything feels dull and by-the-numbers. The game is competently programmed for sure, but at no point did I feel like I was having a good time. The SNES version shoehorns in a couple of first-person sections with some Mode 7 trickery, but again, it's devoid of any real fun.
I need to go back and play the Genesis version to make sure I'm not mis-remembering things, but having slogged my way through the drudgery of the SNES port, I'd still plump for the Sega version over this. Presentation, graphics and suchlike are perfectly decent, but this could have been so much better.

The comic this was based on could be an awesome crossover movie.
The self destruction sequence made me laugh as u were ignoring the Terminators even if they were shooting at u..it looked like "Sorry guys, i'd really like to spend some time chatting but, you know, i dont wanna be late for the dinner" 😂😂
Whoa. 20:03 so that what you mean by combo. A plasma rifle with a grenade launcher attachment. Awesome. I think The plasma Grenade Combo Gun with seeker rockets.
I was addicted to this game as a kid!
RoboCop: "You're move, creep!"
The Terminator: "I'll be back!"
😼🤘🕹️
Compare this to the Genesis port, I rather play the Genesis port over this one because I like the dark and gritty tone. Plus you get to blast foes in a gooey-gory fashion. Still thanks for the longplay AL.
Agreed - Genesis beats this version, in my opinion at least :)
Snes version has a story, but the megadrive version is far superior with the faster gameplay, and if you die, you can start off right where you die instead of starting at the beginning of the stage... which is painful.
One thing I'll say you upload the best retro games
Nice run!
I hope when Robocop Rogue city comes they put in the other Robocop games. Love to play them
I love the genesis version however the snes goes into a full detail story
Pretty neat!
Dag I forgot I about this one you pick some good ones time for emulation 😆
Big LIKE ⭐⭐⭐
If i played this game in the same year it was released i will be very happy, but at that time my parents didnt buy me a console not SNES or even NES
I owned the megadrive/genesis version but have played this version on emulator, always preferred the latter
You can't beat the RoboCop!

RoboCop Vs SKYNET
(Terminators)
Buena partida,en especial me gusta más la versión de sega genesis por bastantes razones para no entrar en controversia
La versión de génesis la supera en todos los aspectos : SEGAAA!!!
Somebody port this game to the TurboGrafx-16.
good game
I like Mega Drive version it has Robocain from Robocop 2
SNES version is graphically superior to the Sega Genesis version but it lack blood & violence
Not to start this 30 year old argument again but I always felt like the genesis version was better graphically too. Murphy’s body proportions seem off on SNES but I’m not sure if that’s because of the whole 8:7 vs 4:3 aspect ratio debate.
i mean, some people dont like really heavy violence
@@quarterburnt I use to own this game on the genesis. To be honest I loved the game but it lacks the cutscenes & ending as compared to SNES.
Oh the SNES version is violent all right. Just not blood and Gore
Sega version much better
Well if they DID Made a MOVIE About THEM(ROBOCOP VS. TERMINATOR LOL!😆) What's the story gonna be like HUH? What Protecting John Connor from Those T1'S Model As ROBOCOP and The TERMINATOR will HELP OUT? LOL! Well NEVER GONNA HAPPENED! But What Happened is They Did BATMAN V SUPERMAN DAWN OF JUSTICE!
REALSTONE
The genesis version looks way better
Horrible Crap with Story...
Why isn't new movie (Terminator 7) named such as video game? That's strange.
Фуууу
graphics are better on SNES, more colours
So, once again Genesis do what Nintendoesn't. This version has such flat soundtrack and graphics by comparison to the heavy synth rock and moody colours and shading of the Genesis version.
I also figured out what's wrong with Robocop's sprite in this version, he's wierdly bottom heavy and for some reason he has digitigrade feet, like a dog, which has never been part of his design in any other iteration.
Like you say, the main RoboCop sprite looks a bit squashed in 4:3, but he's too stretched out in 1:1 as well
