Ashe turned into my best unit in my maddening run because I took every other character into the alert stance+ trap. Ashe i just ignored and turns out snipers are really good
As much as I love baby boi Ashe, he was always under performing on every route I had him on. That's why my fave strategy for my last run with him is boosting Charm as much as possible and making him my Dancer.
Is Ashe the objective best unit in the game? No, not by a long shot. Is that going to stop me from using him every run and making him a crit monster? Also no, my baby will be stronk!
This actually gave me a good idea. Ashe may, in fact, have a small niche: he might be the lowest investment wrath/vantage sniper in the game. No need for retribution to counter mages and other archers, and it’s a pretty unique build compared to the normal wrath/vantage Wyvern lord. His low charm makes him even more susceptible to gambits than other units, but that can be compensated for.
these are great, 3houses is my first fire emblem and I am super lost with 90% of the mechanics especially character class progressions. Your videos are super helpful
Something great about Three houses is that even with the worst units in the game like Ashe or Anna, you can still train them up and find ways to make them powerful as long as you aren't committed to playing your run 100% optimally.
It's also not a massive amount more commitment than using the best units, it's not like somebody like Nino or Marisa where you have to go super out of your way.
I did a playthrough of BL with only in house units (plus flayn and some ashen wolves to fill out 12 unit maps) and Ashe proved to be a very useful support unit. I trained his focus early on getting D reason, authority and faith to get warding, heal and used those with support gambits to get his authority and reason up. This did take a sauna visit at the start of the month, but since almost every other BL member can fit into a class naturally, this wasn't a huge investment. I then moved him into Dark mage and had him adjunct Ingrid (before she started flying) or Byleth to get access to poison strike and he used a bow while in the archer class to chip units very effectively and set up kills for units that typically can't one round enemies, such as Mercedes, Annette or Ingrid. Once archer was mastered I moved him into cavalier for gambits+Canto support and often kept a longbow equipped but unused in order to provide gambit boosts and follow up attacks and eventually made him a bow knight which only increased the range he could provide support more. Overall he wasn't a very impactful unit, but he made a good addition to the roving death ball that cleaned up after enemy phase Dimitri and allowed me to appreciate fiendish blow Annete in a Valkyrie class with Thyrsus, and he allowed Mercedes in Valkyrie to get easy kills as well. Whenever he wasn't attacking his Canto also made good use of Kingdom Archers with retribution gambit, since the mag -2 on that battalion makes the other "support" units of BL even more useless.
My first playthrough (Blue Lions route) consisted of me tons of bad choices, but I was lucky Ashe stumbled down the Wyvern Rider/Lord path. It wasn't too difficult to get him there once the ball started rolling. While he was very useful as a Sniper (tho Shamir is better), in my experience he was a very reliable flying critical-hit-and-run dodger. He and Ingrid would pick off stray/spawning enemies on the sides while the main one/two team(s) would tackle the bulk of the enemy horde. Even on my latest NG+ Azure Moon run, wyvern lord Ashe, assassin Yuri, assassin Felix, and paladin Sylvain can run off on their own and wreck havok all by themselves. I love Ashe, but I don't see myself using him much in a non-BL/AM playthrough. Once he's recruitable (not factoring in NG+ bonuses) he is vastly outclassed by several characters that can do what he does far better. And unless a player loves to grind, it might be better in non-BL/AZ routes to keep Ashe on the sidelines, especially in Part 2.
I think Ashe is a very bad unit, but 1 reason that I think make's him a important tool is in chapter 13 he's the only physical unit that can go Wyvern other than Byleth. I also think that Ashe not having a crest is better than if he had one, the -10 health every attack with a relic is super helpful for Vantage wrath or defiant crit setups. You can set him up with the Felix shield and/or 1 of the 3 lances in BL to chip himself down easily. good video btw :))
I think there are a couple of other candidates for Wyvern - Sylvain is always a good shout, and Annette can fit in to it nicely too - but you can never have too many so him being able to go Wyvern is a definite advantage he has! Thank you!!!
Every time I ever needed Ashe, the first thing I had to do was train his heavy armor and axes and do auxillery fights just so he could go into Fortress Knight. Mastering that and giving him pavise also helps out. Once he does this, he is put back on the archer path. Its a big detour, but he is always getting one shotted by enemies
I know personal experience isn't something one should factor in, but I swear this man is the biggest crit machine behind Petra and Dimitri (Yeah, even more than Felix). I think this because of how much his Dexterity ends up increasing, and his straight forward way of building him (Also known as "Just increase Bows and maybe a little Axes") Makes it really easy for him to get to S rank to get Bow Crit +10. Also, I know Deadeye isn't the most useful skill out there, but I have a soft spot for it as I used it a lot in my very first playthrough of this game. Also also, I was 100% sure the skill was called "Warning Shot", I got Mandela effect hard
Deadeye is actually reasonably valuable, it's nothing incredible but range modifiers are always very useful and can help out in a lot of situations. Also, I feel you on the Warning shot, I spent over a decade using "Psychic" to heal my units.
I am thinking of what to make him, I made him an axe and He is just a beast, But i feel bad cuz I made this sweet young man a "big brute", Should I put him through the holy knight line, His personality and love of chivalry always made me imagine him wanting to be a holy knight instead of a sneaky archer
If you wanted to do something more in line with the chivalrous knight side of his character, I would opt for Paladin over Holy Knight, since Lancefaire can help his damage a little. It also has some nice theming since it was Lonato's class too. You could then maybe look at Bow Knight later in the game too.
@@JonoabboFE I just beat the game and I made him a wyvern lord. Ashe worked really well with me with a lot of Classes, I even had him as Paladin which is just a really strong class. But I swear, Wyvern Lord is easily the best class in the game, The best team should be all wyvern lords :)
The day I realised that hunters volley was only available on Sniper class, even when learned, I was playing with the golden deers imagining Claude as a flying destroyer.... when Claude passed from sniper to his personal class, I was a little..... disappointed. The riding archer class have no sense without that skill, the devs hates archers or what?
the whole discussion on lockpick really makes me wish keys weren't in the regular shop rather limited amounts only in Anna's secret shop, which during part one would sometimes just not be available or if it is it'd be one free day that moon and can be 'invited' in months where she's not scheduled from a auxiliary battle, ideally also significantly more expensive in addition do ideally mostly if not entirely doing away with droppable keys. so the few chests in the game are either outright inaccessible super early one without a locktouch unit or eat into an otherwise very limited supply of keys to give just anyone. For as much as i love this game to death, its genuinely so mean to thieves and mages. also what really gets my goat is why locktouch isn't a mastery skill from thief so you can still have it on Assassin/Trickster if need be but still give those classes a real third class skill, like i always wished something like ; Sharpshooter - Attacks with Bows at 2+ range have additional Crit equal to 0.5x Dex. for assassin to really make that requirement of bows, do literally anything in the class itself. honestly having been playing three hopes recently really makes me with Three Houses had the "Three Star" mastery system from there so classes can provide extra stuff midway to their final mastery skills, like mage/priest should give the unit the ability to take the Fire/Heal skills to any class and ideally use them at half casts even if the class can't normally use spells at all. but maybe thats just me wishing hybrid units weren't utter trash and mages didn't get so shafted.
Currently playing through Blue Lions Maddening for the first time, and I agree that Hit+20 and Death Blow are highly valuable. Hit+20 for more accuracy with both attacks and gambits, and death blow so Ashe can deal proper damage. And sniper is definitely an ideal end class since hunter's volley can make Ashe more viable.
I somehow managed to make him a dodge tank as a dancer... not sure how but enemies were getting an average hit rate of 30% on hhim. Beyond that i gave him all my magic boosters and the staff that boosts healing to make him a surprisingly effective physic bot. He was dealing no damage, but he had good utility. This was on maddening.
I swear they should have gave him chivalry as personal ability. It's on brand with his character. The same ability Xander had from fe fates Still fav, tho😂
Tbh he was my saviour during my maddening run. Reason? Fliers everywhere. He's not the best unit, but he can easily kill many enemies in maddening, which is good enough for me. I don't need Bernadetta's mt+5 thanks to his crit, nor do I need Ignatz's hit+20 to reach 100 hit
I leveled Ash as an adjunct to 22 and his strength didnt grow above 13 so I side lined him. I either got really bad roles or didnt turn him to a Thief like the game wanted me to.
To be fair, everyone in the game can be a crit monster with the right battalions, weapons, skills etc. Ashe just lacks anything that makes him stand out from other characters in the game.
If anything ignatz is the "perfect unit for bow knight" at least he can stack hit20 with his personal to actually take advantage of the one thing bow knights have that nobody else does - bowrange + 2. On maddening the accuracy decrement from shooting that far away is really rough. Then again retribution exists so 🤷🏿♂️
Ashe isn't even the best bow knight in his own house. That's Felix with a much better statblock, arguably the best crest effect in the game and significantly higher kill potential.
@@AlexKlindt bow knight Felix is actually one of my favorite memes. If you aren't playing a super efficient run or don't mind a bit of aux battle grinding and wanna just have fun in maddening you can do a Pav-Gis build and stack that with his relic shield. Since he has a major crest, the relic shield procs Pav-Gis more often which stacks with the mastery of paladin and fort knight. Bow knight just gives a +3 modifier to Dex and has more movement than sniper. He halves the damage of nearly all attacks and gambits and becomes obscenely tanky.
