He is the best male dancer in Kirov and never has been promoted to principal. Can somebody enlighten me about this act of unjustice???!!! He should be considered as the best male dancer of the last 10 years!! At least in Russia, which is practically to say in the rest of the world, as well!
@MrNocco look great ,this boy was phenomenal, and unlucky the greatest kirov dancer is not a principal, very unright.watch his bayadere ,watch his don q coda scissor jump, phenomenal.
@MrNocco nocco please you are in my heart, but please this is a dream arabesque, batalov at that time was probabily the greatest dancer of the kirov, and today also may be.
Andrey Batalov is one of Mariinsky's great dancers that was never given the principal and was stuck in First Soloist title. Shame that the title was given to undeserving dancers that doesn't even have the power to match this technique. Now Batalov is coming to the end of his career with nothing but a memory that he danced in the company and nothing else.
batalov at his top in late 90's was imo the strongest dancer in the world mariinsky treated him like a shit really .he would have been better to go for dollars in usa where any great company would have hired him with top rank probabily he loved too much his theatre.
I'm pretty sure Batalov's arabesque, at least the one in the beginning, is no more square than Ruzimatov's... you can definitely tell that Batalov's is almost an a la seconde position... but still gorgeous!
i have seen it already is ubelievable he ahs performed only twice as Solor, i personally know Vaziev..i guess he's jelous of Andrei or maybe Andrei's attitude as a dancer in the company prevents him to get higher status. (Often happens that a very cocky male dancer, get artistically punished, no matter how good he is)
I'm sorry I can get on board with the arabesque. He is a very nice dancer all around though! Kind of wished I had the flexibility to do that kind of arabesque though. I just think it goes a bit too far for me.
Batalov is no doubt a great dancer, but come on. That's just a moderately high a la seconde at 0:02 with head turned to side pretending it's an arabesque. The purpose and the aesthetics of the arabesque is to show the narrow profile of the leg and torso. Here we get to see the wide frontal of the torso and leg and foot. There's a good reason you hide the heel on the working leg in arabesque. That's how you get the long contour of the arabesque.
l know he was jelous, but now vaziev, since jenuary,is in italy working at la scala as artistic and technical director ,doing l must admit a good work, having also his wife chetckikova as ballet teacher.let's hope that the under rated magnificent batalov will be better treated,he is not far from 36 ,time is against him
@highinsteps if what u say is true then of course you should notice that it was a "trick" arabesque, look at the way he is twisting his torso, it's more of an ecaté actually :P
@theprimadancer101 What's your point? Can hold an a la seconde and twist my head and pretend it is a super high arabesque? Sure, but I prefer holding a real arabesque.
he was a victim of makhar vaziev that never did him rank and roles he deserved for misterious reasons ,yes he is one of the best ever.
He is the best male dancer in Kirov and never has been promoted to principal. Can somebody enlighten me about this act of unjustice???!!! He should be considered as the best male dancer of the last 10 years!! At least in Russia, which is practically to say in the rest of the world, as well!
I pushed play, saw the arabesque, pushed pause, swore and then called my mother to watch this amazing dancer with me.
@MrNocco look great ,this boy was phenomenal, and unlucky the greatest kirov dancer is not a principal, very unright.watch his bayadere ,watch his don q coda scissor jump, phenomenal.
wow... even better arabesque than farukh's and farukh is impressive as well...
that's not "one arabesque" is the higher arabesque in a male dancer i have ever seen (and very squared, Farukh's is almost as high but no so squared)
Bravo brilliance dance

True, that's not really an arabesque....

@pediatrapaola of course batalov was great, i agree!! but this arabesque is a "cheat arabesque" :P its more like a la secondé :P but it looks nice :)
they are both gorgeous dancer, but that is not an arabesque, it is a sort of "en dedans second position...." which looks spectacular anyway...
@theprimadancer101 What's your point? Can hold an a la seconde and twist my head and pretend it is a super high arabesque? Sure, but I prefer holding a real arabesque.
batalov tecnique is umbelivle have a look of his solo of bayaderka recently posted by russianballetvideo
@Leonnidik yes it's very nice :P it's not an "arabesque" competetion, its a performance! :P
@georgeou
Yeah, but can you balance and hold your leg thigh with precision.
