  • A review of the Lego 7750. This rare set was released in 1980 as the only large steam engine with a tender in the 12v Grey Era (1980-1993) and was a supplemental engine for your Lego train collection. It includes many rare and expensive parts, which makes the set one of the hardest to find in the Grey Era today. I hope you enjoy!

    This is a beautiful copy of the 7750 in close to MISB condition- only 1 polybag is ripped open. The sticker sheet is new, instructions and catalog are perfect, parts are in pristine condition, motor never run, and the box includes all inner components.

    I just love that you can see the big red wheels in experimental phase on the altbuilds of the box

      Agreed! Usually the box art on sets differs from the instructions, it's cool to find those kinds of Easter eggs!

    at 3:12 when you say they might have been included in versions of 7740, I believe that they were as when I received my 7740,
    it actually include one of these bricks. when I noticed this I contacted the seller, asking if he had at any point owned a Lego 7750
    and he told me he had never owned or even seen a 7750 in person.

      Thanks for the info! Bricklink says "There is some loose evidence that has been found to suggest that some early copies of this set may have contained a black 3134 Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Cable Holding Cutout as an extra part.". My guess is that it was meant for something to do with adding lights to the passenger wagons (maybe the brick was supposed to be used to replace a red 2x2 inverted slope in the back), but I'm not quite sure.

    Such a beauty tender... Im trying to figure out if theres a chance of replacing the old pieces with regular avaiable pieces from this time period. Again, i just started this rabbithole so just doing some research. Thanks for this great detailed review.
    Much appreciated ❤️

      Hello! Welcome to the 12v community! I was going to buy parts for 7750 about 2 years ago, but then did the math and realized that with shipping costs it would be cheaper to just buy a complete set, which is what I did... although I'm sure it's doable with enough luck. It's definitely viable if you substitute the expensive parts. It'd be hard to substitute the red motor/bogies and big red wheels for good-looking counterparts, but the windows can definitely be replaced by 2 1x1 bricks (for the 1x1x2 windows) and newer versions of the 2x2 windows, plus the expensive red bogie plates can be substituted for much cheaper red ones that have the 5mm pin instead of the 7mm pin (5mm pin plates were produced in many sets, but 7mm pin plates were only in 7750, thus making them around $20 each). Substituting the windows and bogie plates will save you probably close to $200... Good luck on buying parts, if you choose that path!

      @@Reker1million thanks so much for this answer. I havent decided yet what i would do. Maybe i get good fortune and be able to buy one for a nice price. I am from the 9v era so i am thinking either a pf or an 9v motor would work. From the other parts.... I really like the windows 😅

      I don't know how much you want to spend, but there are 2 listings for under $400 on Bricklink right now, which is pretty cheap for this set. If you're based in Europe you might have better luck with local sites, I've seen listings sell on German eBay for less than $300. Including shipping costs if you plan to buy parts, it might be cheaper to just buy a complete set... windows are expensive ($20-30 for one of the 1x1x2 windows, and this set has 4) and so are wheel blocks. It might be hard to put a PF battery box in the engine- you may be able to stuff it in the cab and the IR reciever in the tender, and replace the red motor with a PF one. Or use a 9v motor instead, that would work also. 7750 is one of the best trains out there, but it's always so expensive!

      @@Reker1million i agree! The looks are great and nostalgic. Bout the parts, its better to buy one complete instead of putting one together but i dont have any 12v tracks, that means i have to "update" the engine anyway. I guess i could sell on the red engine then to lower the buy in price but then again .... Would i regret that decision one day? Lol. Decisions, decisions, decisions 😉
      Thanks for thinking with me, much appreciated ❤️👍

    I pieced mine together but the red 12v motor I used is a later variant

    • @Reker1million
      @Reker1million  6 місяців тому

      Ahhh, yep that is the problem with piecing sets together, sometimes you end up with incorrect part variants. Is it a type 2 or type 3?

      Man! That must have been expensive. Inner trays for this set are extremely rare, and the tray lid even rarer.
