I was very surprised when I first heard that Yatesys had shut and I am more surprised that no other pub chain has already snapped it up the season is not far off and it was always busy in the summer. I totally agree with you an art deco building like that in a prime location should not be standing empty. Even in this current financial situation this pub would even be profitable
Hi Stephen, I remember that pub being very popular and busy in the Summer time and whenever there was a footy match on. Very noisy too, I'll have to have a walk past when I'm in Blackpool tommorow. Someone should really repurpose it instead of being left abandoned.
Been in there a few times! Hope who ever re-opens it has it done up art deco cocktail style inside. We have something similar in warrington called the Grand, all done out in art deco style its beautiful xx
Can't imagine it was offering anything different on the day it shut down to what it had on offer 20 years ago - that's what happens when joints like this refuse to move with the times. Shame because that's a lovely old building
we liked yates because I like to sit outside and in my wards watch the world go by. it had outside music great when its summer with a sea breeze yes my wife and son loved sitting outside of yates just watching the life of everything around you going on...john.. south shore...
I adore art deco as you know Stephen. I think a jazz cafe & cocktail bar would be perfect in there. It would certainly be in keeping with this beautiful building. Xx
What a shame about yates.. I remember gping in there about 10 years sgo when we stayed at a b snd b in withnell rd.. Midland hotel was packed today stephen.. I was on prom and passed by it. People sittg outside.. Thank u for another great interesting video. Love them all. Take care. 👍👍😊

Sad to see I worked here too many years ago in the 90s while doing an internship in Blackpool. Was a fun place and used to be very busy, great group working there. Had a lot of door security on weekends as it could get a little rowdy.
So many memories of Blackpool during and after the war. The Dunes was the pub my parents went to, and it's still there..but I don't hardly recognize Blackpool anymore. But really appreciate your videos.👍
The pub looks a lovely building but pubs are closing all over the place, it could make an upmarket bistro or bar but not really in the right area, even converting into b & b or flats would be difficult judging by the developer thatyou spoke to recently.
Beautiful style building, love art deco, so stylish and classy. The pub is very big isn't it?! I looked online & and it's selling for £900,000. It would make a fab Italian or Greek restaurant or another pub, as long as they don't change the deco.
Totally agree prom needs more decent restaurants the problem is out of season would it pay ? The main chains all absolutely experts at market research. l assume this is why not that many chain restaurants along prom /south shore .
yes so very very sad Stephen a beautiful art deco building just sitting there like so many other old beautiful buildings in Blackpool just sitting and rotting away 😢it’s great that you report on these and hopefully it will bring some attention to the council to have this cleaned up instead of all that rubbish floating around 😢 and by the way, love the hat 😁 Thanks again and take care 👍Pauline from Blackpool living in Canada 🍁
Iconic Building! On many visits to Blackpool, I have noticed a considerable number of Commerical and private properties empty some dilapidated and Burned out or boarded up!! As a Tourist Town Blackpool Council has to get its act together and invest in keeping up the appearance after all they seek out those who don't pay local property taxes with a vengeance!! So they can do this with properties being empty. If they don't then Businesses will close and tourists will go elsewhere. It's not looking very good for Yates building already a door hanging off!!!!
So the council should clean buildings up now, I thought that was the owners duty. Let's get council to go on a properties and spend more of our council tax to save businesses money.
@@Cockermadman No!! Get the owners to tidy up or CPO them!! Keep people coming back to spend. That's Blackpool. a Tourist place for people. Grand schemes don't keep the aesthetics for the future. I live in the City of Manchester! It becomes a grand and soleless place glass tower grand places. not for people don't let them do it to Blackpool.
@@petersheridan2993, yet all my daughters and friends love Manchester and visit every other week to shop and party, whilst they think our city of sheffield is dead. The Council are completely and utterly useless regarding private development. On this channel a few weeks ago a developer was going to invest lots money all over Blackpool and council put obstacles in way
What a stunning building that is, Stonegates are rumoured to be selling hundreds more establishments, they own 4 in newquay alone --- yikes imagine how that bloody builder felt poor sod

Such a great shame to see Yates like that. Hopefully someone will do it up again. 👍🏾 Mother Hubbard's has recently opened a branch here in Birmingham, not been yet, far too expensive 👎🏾
Great video sir. I remember going in there with my former partner and having about 10 or more of them letching on her! Big shame to see it that way however.
Great vlog. I just wonder if anybody remembers Yates Wine Lodge next to the Tivoli Cinema about 50 years ago. It was almost sawdust on the floor, draught champagne and Australian White Wine on tap. We thought it was the height of sophistication. At the time the Tivoli was one shilling and sixpence to watch films continuously. Happy days!!!
About sixty years ago one of the free treats for a child of any age was the Tivoli Pet Shop. We were allowed to take the puppies, kittens and tortoises out of the cages and cuddle them.No visit to the Saturday morning cinema nest door (!s. 6d) was complete with out it. Fabulous.!!!

It's a beautiful Art Deco building shame it's now left to rot. Would love to see Wetherspoons buy it they seem to the the only company who can make large pubs work they have two in Blackpool that are always busy so maybe a third between them can work. Yates food quality and drink prices are not great which is why in most places they are struggling.
Yates or the original name Yates Wine Lodge first got into trouble in 2008 the then owner closed loads of lodges around the country . In my home town of Chesterfield Yates lasted until 2010 but was run down then revamped as the Burlington bar. I have been in this Yates at Blackpool seemed busy but clearly was not profitable I doubt it will reopen the pub trade is in its knees even the mighty Wetherspoons empire feeling the pinch 39 of their pubs are up for sale.

There used to be one at the bottom of Talbot Road near the town Hall. The site is now a Premier Inn. It burnt down in late 2008, early 2009. Someone had started a fire in the shop next door and it spread into Yates.

Not surprised as lots of pubs are struggling. When I go to Blackpool in the summer time I always drink in Wetherspoons on the sea front.

I didn’t realise it had closed. Always busy when we went in.
