PURPLE KISS never disappoint, and thankfully the sales went up compared to BBB as well! Highly recommend Sweet Nightmare and Light the way from the EP!
Did they really??? omg I was extremely worried that their sales would keep droping. Really glad it isn't the case. Hope they somehow go viral, but RBW keeps messing them up
I think the line "car for the body but a bike for the soul" will resone with people who are into bikes. Also, bikes represent freedom, going your own way.
As a plory, I feel the same too about the budget. You could really feel rwb cutting their budget, no marketing, no story, probs/sets are cheaply set up. Their cinematography is on point though.
Car for the body but a bike for the soul means, a car will get you from place to place but a bike will transport you to a different sense of well-being and sense of freedom and even rebellion. These are concepts that Purple Kiss frequently explores. They embody "girl power" They are not going to be ...speaking of Yuki, in another song, I can't remember which, she says "I'm just a girl and I'm weak" They are exactly the opposite of that, They are strong independant and they absolutely will not fit into the helpless girl mold.
Thank you for pointing out what the MV is lacking. I can spot the cool scenes from it, but overall can't tell what the MV is about, as you said, it lacks one story line to connect all the scenes, and can be developed more in many details. But I'm glad the song's quality is good as always, and the MV turns out pretty cool despite of the above problem...
5:06 “car for the body but a bike for the soul” is a common saying among bikers. and you’re right I did feel the lyrics were lacking a little despite how well produced the instrumental is
Agree with PD that the music/instruments is the most strong part. They definitely succeed at creating a quality, legit pop/rock track. The style kinda reminds me of Kards' music.
YALL DONT KNOW HOW LONG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REACTION HAHAHAHHAHA I absolutely loved this comeback but I agree with the critique. Ever since the teaser pics came out i had really high expectations from this cb, from the wedding dress outfits to the devil horns, it got me anticipating a really cinematic music video with a cool story of some sorts. But I feel like the mv just focused more on the visuals instead of portaying an actual meaning and storyline which slightly dissappinted me. Also one more thing, imo, the mv didnt really match the intensity of song. It just felt a bit too weak. I think that simple visual or even sound effects for the intense and highlight parts couldve really elevated the experience for me. Like when goeun smashed her guitar right before the chorus, it didn't really felt like anything much at all. But yeah i still really loved the song in general even though the mv left me wanting more. Addictive song, amazing vocals as always, and great performances. I just love being a plory haha 💜💜
@@TheCatOfficiel Riiight?? Its like rbw dgaf abt them anymore with how they promote them and the budget they give them. Its so sad honestly esp with the amount of potential and talent our girls have. It just sucks ☹️
@@blueveluv4748 they're also planning on debuting a new boy group in 2025 I believe because they apparently find themselves to be excellent at managing their already existing groups
"Car for the body but a bike for the soul" As I see it: The car is the safer option, but unlike the bike it won't give you the same thrill and adrenaline of the danger. So it'd be like going after what they want despite the danger, just to feel alive. The concept kinda reminds me of 2 Rings by Dreamcatcher, and I really like both songs. On the other hand I agree with your opinion, it needed a little more narrative for being a title track, and I feel like they did a great job at that when they released Sweet Juice.
They’re so consistent. Chaein really standing out this CB too which is awesome. 100% on the lyrics, they really need someone at RBW vetting the English in these concepts.
Thank you for the critique PD! I have always loved your knowledgeable perspective on videos and how they are shot. The video is underwhelming HOWEVER when they get into the rock part with that wide shot with the wings, i was like yes more of this! The fact that they did NO lore leading up to this makes me think they just didnt have enough time which is disappointing. They ALWAYS have some kind of lore leading up and it was sorely missing from this comeback. The video was just beauty shots of the girls(im not complaining bc they are all gorgeous) but yeah the thread tying the scences together was non existent as you said. Thanks for still following them though. They are seriously musically taleneted and the BSides are FIRE as usual.
I agree with a lot of this. Vocally, never disappointed by PK. This song has great bones and has def returned to the type of sound that attracted me to PK in the first place (hellooooo heavy guitars)! However, I was very underwhelmed by the MV & lyrics bc like you, I felt like plot & visuals could have been so much further developed to give more context as to 1) why are they dark angels/demons? 2) why are they in wedding gowns? 3) why do they feel like it's a car for the body but a bike for the soul? I just had so many questions bc I wanted more details haha. Funnily enough, I have heard so many bikers say that line though, but for the girls I am just wanting to have context for why they believe this? Overall, I def have been listening to the song more than some of their older tracks but I want more of this sound from them!!
I believe the video is about breaking free. We see Ireh bound in roses breaking out and grinding them into the ground. Swan staring at the security camera and breaking the chains. Then there is the pomegranite. I think that together with the wedding dresses are suggesting Persephone captured by Hades. I think the fire on the scaffolding is representing Hell and having become demons/dark angels escaping.
It truly is such a good song, instantly became one of my favorites! The girls match so well this darker concept. But I agree with you about the mv, it feels empty sometimes, and up until now I couldn't really tell why :/
They started their career as Purple Kiss with the witchy/creepy concepts, which is an amazing idea, and they could go farther. Even with songs like "Find You", "My My", and "7HEAVEN", they can still connect these all to the witchy concept/vibe (light/dark witch concepts per comeback". They could have even made the comebacks align with little intros and endings that could connect each comeback, making a cohesive overarching storyline. They definitely have the right idea, but I echo what some people have already commented that maybe RBW isn't putting more of a budget and promotion behind them, which is an incredible shame. Purple Kiss has amazing potential to get even bigger, and as a fan from their debut on, I hope that they can get more love, not just from Plory, but also from RBW.
the emptiness make me feel the song is just a "rock-alike" pop despite the strong beats behind. though the girls are doing perfecto always, no matter what's crap happens besides them 😅
The MV is on the simpler side (much better that BBB though), I think it's mainly due to less money beign invested. On the upside we got more choreo than a lot of MVs, which I quite enjoy.
I think since the lyrics are mostly English it's the original lyrics done by the Swedish producers. And what Swan did is the korean parts, and maybe some adjustment.
Thank you for your reaction I love this comeback so much but yeah before rbw gave them also story films which say a lot about concept but they don't do this anymore and I am sorry for that
Thought you were in a trance there for a second PD 😂 glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been waaaaaaiting for this since forever. Thanks. What I was thinking was that they might have shot this is US or Canada roads or highway since had USA and Canada tour this year. The whole album might have been inspired them due to long road trip. But then it wasn’t, but overall even though the MV is lacking in funds. They did good enough to meet the concept. In fact I like the rawness of the shots. And that long zoom reveal. Glad the songs included were high quality enough that I could overlook the MV.
I agree with you, the idea was cool but not well executed but that's the thing with rbw they don't know how to do things right 😩😩purple kiss have everything, talent, visuals and vocals but the company just don't know what to do with it and it kills me 😭😭 this song is so good and with just a little more of effort could be amazing but the company did the bare minimum again..... Anyway thank you for the reaction and listen to the album its good too 🙂↕️🙂↕️
Chaein and Dosie's era!! I think they just wanted to shoot something cool, without much thought... I think this would be good as a pre release video, or when you shoot a 2nd mv or a mv for a b side... They have so many amazing MVs that we expect something better and better everytime! hahahaha
I'll agree with PD. The song is far better than the MV. I think ever since 7Heaven the budgets have gotten smaller. BBB hid it a little better, but you can tell on that on they had two small sets that they shot every creative angle they could to make them look interesting. With On My Bike, it really does feel "shoot choreo on location, hire a stunt bike driver cause the song talks about driving." It's not creative at all. Maybe RBW isn't seeing as much return as they'd like so they've been cutting back?
Thank you for the review! I like the song so much, and I think the ladies performed very well. I appreciate your points about needing some narrative. The odd thing about that is Purple Kiss has an interesting lore that somehow, up until now, RBW has managed to weave into both their darker and more humorous MVs. The part of the bridge about flying around the city screamed for a stronger visual tie-in to the witch concept, but we kind of got glamour shots instead. Some missed opportunities. But all in all, I like the sound of the album, and I am glad to see the ladies performing at a high level vocally and as dancers. They just need better opportunities.
its so weird that purple kiss had even trailers with them acting to explain the storyline of the MV and now we have a MV without a concept, sadly the fact that they are not having the attention they deserve is impacting on they concept too, but i still a plory i love them sm and they are REALLY REALLY talented they just need more attentioooon pls people
I think if more of it was in Korean it would have been a better think cause the lyrics be feeling a lil more like fillers since 98% of the lyrics are in English but I reckon it would’ve been nicer if the lyrics matched the mv a lil morw
I was always a fan of Chaein and her unique voice but she especially shine in a song like this. 0:582:112:29 (my fav part of the song Ireh also did amazing in this part) these parts sound so good!
I'm obsessed with this comeback musically, but I agree the mv doesn't feel very cohesive. You should check out Encore from the EP, it's so fun and creepy and feels great to listen to
Chaein fans unite! Chaein really shines in this comeback. Her vocals are amazing, and of course they're matched by her visuals. Purple Kiss as a whole slayed so hard. Stan Purple Kiss for a better life! 💜💜💜💜💜💜 Agree with most about what was said about the video. Definitely feels like budget/planning issues. The dance and the song are fire tho, and Purple Kiss still ate 🔥
Thank you for your reaction! Personally, I love the song and the video too, but considering they only recently returned from touring it's possible their schedule was really tight. Their sales have also been on a downward spiral, so maybe a budget issue too? As for the meaning, to me ON MY BIKE is more about breaking free and escaping hell than just being a bad girl. Apparently the concept was inspired by the Greek goddess Hecate, but I don't know much about her to say for sure. Either way, to me this is more of a continuation of Sweet Juice (escape) instead of BBB (bad girls).
I believe that due to the touring schedule around the globe, RBW didn’t want to spend any money on Purple Kiss comeback. Beginning of the end unfortunately.
you're so right. rbw didn't know where to go with this one. it's just random cool scenes without a real connection between them. the fact that it's the first album where we didn't get a story film adds to that overall feeling. in the commentary the girls said that there should've been whole scenes on fire, but in the end it was just the top of the scaffolding because it was the easiest to do. there also was no intro performance/choreo for the album. purki is famous for those! i like the style, love purki, like the sound but sadly rbw chose to half ass this comeback. 😒
totally agree with you on cool ideas/concepts but not enough follow through! i think if purple kiss had a better team behind them they would do incredibly well... rbw has been really lacking in their promotions for purple kiss, and the mvs havent been doing a lot visually for their past few eras. i think the company isn't doing so well. even the physical album this time only had 1 version, when in the past theyve done a lot more variety. the purple kiss girls are so talented, i wish they had better support so they could execute their concepts better. however the song itself is one of my favourite title tracks from them, and ive been following since pre-debut! i just miss their older concepts that had more depth and visual complexity, like zombie and memeM :(
Banger song but I agree that the MV feels super low-budget compared to their previous releases... I assume RBW has been haemorrhaging money since OT4 Mamamoo's inactivity and Oneus/Onewe/Purki haven't been bringing in enough money to keep up the same production value? RBW blew it by following Zombie with Memem though, imo. It totally squandered Purki's momentum and they haven't recovered yet :/
I love PK, but this song and video fell a bit short for me, too. I actually like the b-side Encore on the album a lot more. But I agree, putting more of a storyline in the video would have helped a lot.
My pet theory for this song is that RBW optioned it as a Hwasa B-side like 4 years ago and then just fed those crumbs to PK. It just doesn't feel like a title track to me.
I've been waiting for this review and whilst I've enjoyed the song and the girls performance.....the lyrics and the mv have been a bit of a let down. The lyrics gives a b side grade feel, the chorus is catchy enough but the narrative is a bit lackluster. The mv actually come across a bit lazy 😢 maybe that's why the view counts are so poor! Compare it to Zombie, I cant help but think has there been some kind of budget constrait, coz most of their subsequent mv were mostly them running around in rundown buildings or a green screen stage 😢 Such a shame and kinda a waste of another comeback...
I don't really disagree with your perception of the song and video. I generally feel the same as you- I definitely feel like the lyrics could be better and the MV storyline wasn't as easy to follow as other videos. I still really love the song, and its sonically one of my top favorite songs by them. I've definitely had it on repeat. But the lyrics could be better for sure. Songs don't have to be deep, but if they're telling a story you should at least be able to follow it. II think the main take away is that they're going their own way, regardless of what society wants or expects of them; they are rebels and one of the most recognizable symbol of that in pop culture is a motorcycle. So I can understand the theme of using the bike to represent their deviation from the path most followed. But I just feel like the lyrics could've expressed that sentiment better than I did. I overall like the MV, but mostly just for the cool shots and visuals. But it took my multiple watches and even reading some comments to actually get a grasp of what I think their intent with the visual storyline was. I think the overarching story is that they are breaking free figuratively in the song, but literally in the MV as they 'escape' the building. It starts with their solo shots in the red with their demon horns, so setting the stage that they are demons. And then it shows them going up an escalator, so their ascending, possibly from hell. In some of the member's solo shots you see them destroying things. So for Ireh (which you may have missed cause the shots don't make it super clear) she is breaking her wrists out of a restraint made of roses, and then she steps on the fallen petals. Swan of course with the helmet breaking through the chain on the door, presumably locked by whoever is on the other side of the security camera. Yuki with the can of gas- I got nothing on that one, honestly. 🤣 And Go Eun with the guitar, who I can only imagine is smashing it against the person who was circling her on the bike. I'm not sure if they were implying that the person circling her was essentially imprisoning her. But if they are, then that doesn't make sense to me cause the bike is meant to be their symbol of freedom, so also using it to imprison makes it confusing. At the bridge it cuts to them outside (I guess they made it out?) and they now have space to spread their wings, literally. The scene with the bridal outfits felt really out of place to me, but I've heard others say they interpreted it as them being angels. I didn't really get that connection but I suppose it's not far off, since demons are sometimes considered to be fallen angels. And the video ends with them walking out the doors, so I guess showing us they 'escaped' when we had already seen them go 'free' in the bridge. I just feel like the video wants to be more than it is. There's something there, but there just aren't enough puzzle pieces for us to put it together. I get the overall feeling from this comeback and from BBB that RBW just isn't putting as much into the production value for Purple Kiss as they used to. This is the second mini album where we haven't gotten a performance video of their intro track. And don't get me wrong, I really loved the BBB MV and I don't think you need a big budget to make an awesome video, it was admittedly a lower budget video. Half the video was just a white room. On it's own, that doesn't bother me, but that, along with no intros, and then this MV... it really makes me feel like they just aren't as invested in the group. And as a fan that's really frustrating.

I believe that due to the touring schedule around the globe, RBW didn’t want to spend any money on Purple Kiss comeback. Beginning of the end unfortunately.
FINALLY!!!!
you're so right. rbw didn't know where to go with this one. it's just random cool scenes without a real connection between them. the fact that it's the first album where we didn't get a story film adds to that overall feeling.
in the commentary the girls said that there should've been whole scenes on fire, but in the end it was just the top of the scaffolding because it was the easiest to do.
there also was no intro performance/choreo for the album. purki is famous for those!
i like the style, love purki, like the sound but sadly rbw chose to half ass this comeback. 😒
totally agree with you on cool ideas/concepts but not enough follow through! i think if purple kiss had a better team behind them they would do incredibly well... rbw has been really lacking in their promotions for purple kiss, and the mvs havent been doing a lot visually for their past few eras. i think the company isn't doing so well. even the physical album this time only had 1 version, when in the past theyve done a lot more variety. the purple kiss girls are so talented, i wish they had better support so they could execute their concepts better. however the song itself is one of my favourite title tracks from them, and ive been following since pre-debut! i just miss their older concepts that had more depth and visual complexity, like zombie and memeM :(
SWAN provided lyrics for the song.
I'm actually waiting PD to react to this 🥹🥹🥹👏🙌🏍
PLEASEE react to itzy's imaginary friend!! It's genuinely such a beautiful song
It totally squandered Purki's momentum and they haven't recovered yet :/
oh rbw definitely did lower their budget on purpose bcs there's an official news about this agency releasing another in-progress building near dsp😬
Yep, always thought memem killed the rising star vibe for them. Zombie was the perfect comeback in everyway and then memem happened 😢
Waiting for a STAYC GPT reaction
I love PK, but this song and video fell a bit short for me, too. I actually like the b-side Encore on the album a lot more. But I agree, putting more of a storyline in the video would have helped a lot.
Please react to SHINee Minho CallBack MV ❤️
the only mv i didn't like that much cause it felt underwhelming compared to the song. THE SONG THO???
Exactly!!
My pet theory for this song is that RBW optioned it as a Hwasa B-side like 4 years ago and then just fed those crumbs to PK. It just doesn't feel like a title track to me.
Meanwhile purple kiss members choosing this song as title track out of 50+ options...... 😑
Compare it to Zombie, I cant help but think has there been some kind of budget constrait, coz most of their subsequent mv were mostly them running around in rundown buildings or a green screen stage 😢
Such a shame and kinda a waste of another comeback...
Anyone else sad to see Form Of Therapy not reacting to KARD? He used to be such a big fan of them, but totally skipped their last comeback.
bro we want GD!!
Chaein owned this comeback !

They probably didn’t have a big budget 😢
It really is just a song about being cool and riding a bike, and there's nothing wrong with that but why does it feel like my dad wrote the english parts? Musically I like the song and the girls are amazing, I just can't vibe with the lyrics.
If this is aespa's song , it will get all kill
Can u rect to new mv MISAMO IDENTITY
I love Chaein and I feel like she owned this era, too. 💜
If you remove all kpop MVs that doesn't have a strong narrative coherence and/or make logical sense you would probably get rid of 70% of all MVs. 😄
