It's good to see a Star Trek that shows the main character's progression toward Captain. The writing is fantastic, showing Burnham's struggles and flaws throughout her journey.
I think Emperor Georgiou knew who Michael was and what she was always capable of being without needing to see proof. Whereas Captain Georgiou, IMO, never saw Michael as more than someone to mold into being who SHE wanted her to be, which is a copy of her.

Burnham and The Discovery are heroes in two timelines. They saved their home timeline from control and put back together the Federation, defeated the Emerald Chain, found the Burn and a new source of dilithium. I love all Star Trek series had hero captains. Discovery had a bunch.
I think as Star Trek fan we are so use to a singular captain and their development as such, so discovery among many other flaws didn’t allow us to travel with just want captain

I do appreciate being shown some of what it takes to become a captain in a fashion other than an exposition dump. That said I hope that characters such as Gen, Bryce, the 2nd doctor, Owosekun &ct get character development since Burnham will have to delegate problem solving to the crew.
I ask strictly because I stopped watching around midway of season 2. Has that happened to date? Have the other officers on the bridge had any sort of character development outside of their names?
Did anyone else get emotional when she walked around the chair and then sat down with hesitation? Michael and Benjamin worked so hard for their Captaincies
It may have ended up being over-reach, but I would like to have seen her reach for that little welding imperfection or whatever, that every captain's chair is supposed to have - you know the one she told Tilly about.
I think they just put that in there for a S4 set-up. Not dead. Yet. But I'm guessing there's gonna be a conflict wherever they are and Vance has to make decisions he doesn't want to or Michael is making the right decisions but he's emotionally compromised.
That's part of the appeal of this series. Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and Archer were all Captains from Episode 1 of their respective series. This series shows Burnham's progression toward Captain. The only other main occurrence of this in a series was Sisko, who started as a Commander.

Is because the Defiant is officially designated as an Escort vessel due to its small profile and not a mainline ship. Because of this it probably served the role of frigate and usually any officers with either rank of Lt. Commander or Commander would command such a ship. Its the reason Worf took command the Defiant during the battle of Sector 001 in first contact or in the frontlines while Sisko was in DS9 or Starbase 375.

Honestly, I'm surprised she wasn't made a captain since episode 1 of season 1, seeing how she's such a "perfect" Mary-Sue. Edit: It has nothing to do with her being a woman. It's about how she's a poorly written character, who's automatically the best at everything.
I don't buy this really... They seem to be taking a DS9 approach to storytelling with the character and her rise to Captain. Captain Sisko wasn't a Captain until the end of Season 3. I expect by season 6 none of the episodes will make sense on their own.
I would like to know what makes Burnham qualified to be a captain. Seriously what are her credentials and qualifications? She graduated from the Vulcan Science Academy, as did Spock, however Spock went to Starfleet Academy, I’ve taken the time to look into this Micheal has NOT attended the Academy. Therefore she shouldn’t be allowed to hold rank in Starfleet at all, much less a command level officer. Some could argue T’pol also did not graduate but remains as a second officer aboard the NX. This is a true argument, however, T’pol resigned and joined Enterprise on what was likely a one way trip, Archer kept her a first officer because of her knowledge of the area, skills as a scientist and he TRUSTED her. She had proven herself capable of following orders, Micheal has disobeyed direct orders on several occasions, one of which resulted in war. She appears to have given a commission as a favor to Sarek rather than earn it on her own merits, which would explain her…proclivity to doing as she pleases rather than follow the chain of command. I know a little of what happens in season 4 and she is responsible, whether you like it or not, of allowing Book and Tarka to destroy the DMA controller A. and B. allowing her ship to be hit by a salvo of torpedoes because she “knows Book and he wouldn’t hurt her or the ship”. She deliberately put her personal relationship before the well-being of the crew, she doesn’t deserve the chair because she doesn’t respect the chair.
She originally appears as the First Officer of USS Shenzhou under Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) until she commits mutiny, for which she is stripped of rank and sent to prison for life. Burnham is later recruited by Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) on USS Discovery as a science specialist after serving only six months of her sentence, with Lorca viewing Burnham as an asset in the war against the Klingons. I don't think someone who is convicted of mutiny and deserves to be captain. I'm not going be negative but how does someone who doesn't follow orders get promoted to Capt. And everything she has done too this point could have been solved with someone with common sense.

In fact, Georgiou stepped onto the bridge and put Michel in the brig before she could do anything. It kills me how they ruined the chance for Sonequa’s Michael to be accepted by the fan base in the first season. She’s a fantastic actress but writers messed it up. Gave her a man’s name, a cringe half Vulcan accent that never sounds natural, and shoehorned her backstory into established Trek lore, becoming Spock’s “secret adopted sister that he never mentions because it’s classified”..

Sisko, even as a commander, had his own ship and station. He was only promoted to captain almost halfway through the dominion war.

I am SOOO glad that this emotion-fest trainwreck with "MY FEELINGSSSS" and " MY EMOTIONSSSSS" is over FOR GOOD. It needed to be cancelled after the first disastrous season but the DEI/LGBT powers that be at CBS/Paramount kept it life support.
