The differences between North and South in traditional music are pretty fascinating to me. For the most part, the melodies are usually identical (at least in songs shared by both sides) while the lyrics tend to vary. Granted, certain sets of lyrics become popular and standard over time, so there’s plenty of variation on both sides anyway. If I’m being honest, the South definitely retains more traditional elements as if the songs were meant to be sung in a village by common people. They almost always use traditional instruments and singing styles exclusively. Songs in the North sound more modernized and professional as if to be performed on a stage since they often combine traditional instruments with Western classical instruments.
