Great explanation. These are real plays that have happened to me in my 29 years of officiating. The catch with the one foot in the front court and then landing in the backcourt from a frontcourt end-line pass happened so fast. I first ruled it a violation, and then I changed it. Later, I reviewed it, and I found I had done it wrong. You have to go with your gut sometimes. Officials are only human. Like me. I know I will get it right next time.
Love the content! Thank you for providing a space to learn and grow. I wanted to mention that it appears some of the double takes and/or edits made their way into the final video. Just a heads up.
Hi Addie! Thanks for the feedback. I just watched the video and was chuckling at minor annoying errors. Most of them occur early in video. This is actually a choice that I made in an effort to get videos out quicker. In the past we have laborious Lee edited videos and crafted them. This one this morning it's some rough editing and then released the video. UA-cam has an editor in which I will be able to go back and trim out the pieces that need to be edited. I'm going to do that this evening. I'm really excited that I was able to produce the video essentially at the drop of a hat this morning. In conjunction with our going live what this all means is that we'll be able to produce a lot more video content barriers will have fallen! If you check back in a couple of days the mistakes will have magically disappeared!
@@BetterOfficials That is a great strategy to roll out content in a streamlined process! Makes perfect sense to me. If you are ever looking to add editors or team members, I have some relevant qualifications and would be more than happy to help out! I appreciate and enjoy the content you create, and recommend it to all the officials I meet.
Great explanation. I have a scenario. A player dribbling in the BC throws an errant pass that hits an official just past the division line with FC status. The ball deflects back into the BC where the dribbler that threw the pass retrieves it. That should be a violation, no? I saw it happen in a game and it was ruled a legal play
Yes. Ball gained FC status when it hit the official. While Team A was not the last to touch frontcourt, the exception say cannot cause to go frontcourt then backcourt and be 1st to touch.
Fifth situation citation: 4-4-6: During a dribble from backcourt to frontcourt, the ball is in the frontcourt when the ball and both feet of the dribbler touch the court entirely in the frontcourt.
Excellent. Please continue with the calls
Most excellent explanation of the backcourt rule I have ever heard. Great job.
Awesome, thank you!

Scenario 6 & 8 - what’s the difference? Called it two different ways even when there was a touch in both scenarios. I’m confused.
Right....front court status is 2 feet and the ball on and dribbling in the front court

First situation. Official may have also been confused by NCAA-M rule.
