I own this guitar in this color and it is freaking awesome. I was nervous to get a FR guitar but it stays in tune really well, especially with the roasted maple neck. I paid less than $600 new from GC.
the neck pickup in this guitar i find is totally awesome. i need to have this pickup at least... the guitar is overall pretty good and i would recommend it also. great video.
I have this guitar. I wasn’t sure about it at first because dean is more known for their metals guitars, but this guitar hits every check list. Feels great, sounds great, and has some light sounds to it too, Perfect weight, it never get out of tone, the burnt maple wood looks and sounds great, and I can keep going. To put a cherry on top. The guitar wasn’t selling, so they had it on clearance for $450. It was a steal! Con - only seen the Blue and orange in stock.
Awesome guitar. These guitars looks nice and sounds killer. Dean always makes great sounding instruments. Speaking of which, I was thinking about purchasing a dean edge bass and a dean z guitar.
Any company you pay enough will make you a good (or even great) guitar! The difference with Dean is that everyone who works there is cool, approachable, and they're great to their costumers. The guys know their stuff, they're humble, and accommodating. The specs on these new guitars are awesome. How about that 8 String ML with a Kahler? (I think it also comes in a Strat style body. . .) Not everyone's cup of tea, but if Evan Rubinson (the CEO) is spending time in comment sections, making the case for the renewed quality control, I'm willing to hear them out. In my videos, I play a USA Dean ML, and it's KICKASS guitar! I LOVE it. But that's at 3000 bucks, so of course it's good. I think we ought to see if they have truly brought back the import quality, and give them a fair shot.
And as far as guitar virtuosity, I think some people under-estimate the amount of time it takes to make UA-cam videos. It's hard to play like we're 17 years old again (8-10 hours of practice, No Job, No responsibilities, No bills... Who remembers those days?) I applaud anyone who puts themselves out there like Ryan. He's got a job (making videos can easily eat up over 40 hours a week for someone who does it for a living). We don't all have the time to practice licks, scales, etc. all day. Ryan, the mix sounds KILLER, by the way! How long did it take you to learn to do that, right?

It looks like a Charvel, I like the new Floyd Rose the strings are run the screws that used for clamping the strings. they are hollow now no more clamping the strings. a huge improvement from the folks at Floyd Rose no doubt.
I played a PRS, Schechter, and a charvel before i picked up the Dean MD24 and holy shit, thte dm42 blew them all out of the water and it was cheaper!!!

Vester crackle, 24 fret maple neck and org black Floyd. Never one issue with that guitar. Stolen in the early 90s.. This dean made up for it. Got a body and neck for 250 from reverb and built it. Vester is back in spirit..
Not to be a dick, nor judge a company by one guitar but one of the few $800 disappointments I've purchased was a Dean - and if you peruse the forums they get called a lot on quality. Specifically I got an RC 7 - yes lower end to be sub 1k. I was jamming with it at a party when the floyd rose bar fell out of it's socket and fell at my feet. I made the mistake of wanting to like it so much I gave it too long. I haven't played it in years.

My first thought is that someone was smart at Dean. Charvel can’t be bothered to make a Roasted Neck Charvel with a Floyd. Not even a Dinky. That Gotoh bridge they offer is just terrible.
Reminds me a bit of my blue Dean 88 I had back in the day. I'd probably go Charvel instead with its Duncans, splits and rolled edges. This would have to be significantly cheaper to jump ahead ofca Charvel IMO.

I played one today (new, off the wall in the store) and it had fret sprouts up and down both sides of the fretboard.. it sucked. Wouldn't be surprised if the high E were to get hooked on a fret. For the money, this shouldn't even be an issue

Dean resale value is so bad lol. Just got a pretty solid mint condition Les Paul clone for $300. Any PRS SE/Schecter/Charvel would retain like 80% of their value
I have 3 of these and they all destroy!! Floyds are easy to work with. Balance trem with body at 440 or whatever you tune to. Back off or screw in the trem screws in the back and thats it! Always watch the lock nut for rocking or shifting. If that lock nut moves unscrew it and use a thin coat of E6000 adhesive, screw the lockbut back down and let it sit 24hrs... No more problems... Destroy all!!!!
It'd be nice if Dean could make guitars consistently. Their QC on the low end specifically just isn't there. Harley Benton, Squier, Epiphone, and Jackson just have better built instruments on average in the up-to-$500 price range
Not a knock...but I rarely see Fluff with a guitar that is not a thick log. 🤔 We can learn something here...learn to play in standard tuning and work on attack...Watch him struggle with a classic rock orientation fun.🤭 Smh
at that price a better choice is a japanese ibanez genesis. FR1000 is junk. genesis comes with a gotoh made original edge trem and is a better quality instrument..by far. They are made at fujigen factory by the same people that make the prestige line.

A quick Google search reveals everything from finish durability, knife edge problems, to rough and poorly tapped/threaded fine tuning adjustments. Most of those problems can be attributed to manufacturing process. Material and specs may be "identical" on paper but craftsmanship determines the end result. It's common sense really. If you own one and are satisfied with it then I am happy for you. The rest of us on the other hand find an OFR, an original EDGE(steve vai included), or a gotoh 1996t(suhr oem) to be far superior choices for our higher end instruments than a budget oem floyd for budget guitars...just saying.

Knife edge problems are also caused by people not setting the guitar up correctly . Finish Durability let me let you in on a lil secret...sweat and oils from your dirty hands will corrode the parts and plating will peel over time.. but there are polishes out there that will prevent that from happening if you use them and can apply it to all the parts during the cleaning process, which involves taking your FR apart, something a lot of people are to intimidated to do. poorly tapped/threaded fine tuner.... I've never seen this not even on a FRS but in the event you have...a small file and set of magnifiers will easily take care of a burr OR you can contact FR in NJ and they will make it right! THAT IS if the guitar manufacture won't... and not that quality issues don't happen from time to time, they do....but its just not that common and manufactures more times than not if you have a legitimate claim are going to make it right but more times than not its user error and abuse/neglect that lead to product failure.
