    BUDDYMOON DAY 248/1000 (VLOG 66)
We slept in economy class on one of the very few sleeper trains in South Africa, The Santos Express in Mosselbay. Most sleeper trains come at a very high price, mainly because they take you from one destination to another.
The Santos Express train however does not move and is treated as a hotel, therefore, the opportunity to sleep in a train comes at an affordable price ($24 for 2 people) and this is why we just had to book a stay to see what it's like to sleep on a train!

In South Africa we do say thank you on the roads when another driver goes out of his way to do something good .. just a gesture of appreciation

In the 70's I often traveled to Cape Town from Johannesburg in the "sleeper" train. Depart Joburg station at 11h00 arrive Cape Town 09h00 the next morning. The train stopped at several towns during the night for passengers to disembark or embark.
In the mornings we were woken up by a rapid knock on the compartment door and served coffee or tea in our bunks. The dining cars served four course meals consisting of soup, fish and a choice of chicken or meat and a dessert. The meals were prepared on the train. The lounge had comfortable seating and the large windows allowed one to see the countryside flashing by ..
It is easy to long for those days ......

In America if drivers are being courteous they stick their hand up/wave if they merge in front of another car. Also if it's another car's turn to go but they allow you to go instead. But on the most part you have crazy drivers lol it's cute you two messing around in the cabin and giggling like teens :-)))))

When we were kids in the late 60s and the 70s, we lived in East London. To get to Durban (600km/ about 375 miles by car) by train, you had to travel all the way to Johannesburg (1000km/625 miles) and then down to Durban (400km/250 miles) We had to spend 2 nights on the train. I remember falling asleep to the "da-da da-da... da-da da-da of the wheels on the tracks, and being awakened by the conductor ar 6am every morning, offering hot coffee for sale. We couldnt afford to eat in the dining car, but my mom always packed a delicious picnic basket with enough food for 2 days.

The guys in vintage cars... that was so cool, just going for a drive in your vintage car, top down on a sunny day. I love the train, I'd 100% try it.
In Kenya drivers usually do hand signals or a quick honk.
I love the topography of the route you've taken, some areas are green and lush, others dry grass and the ocean never too far away.

You say your journey starts in George, "in a little town George." Did you know that in the western cape George is the second largest city? No "little town" at all. I'm living in George and I would suggest that you first make sure about the info you give to people about a town or city. If George is a "little town" then I wonder what Knysna and Mossel Bay, is.

Yes people do use their hazard lights to say thanks although it's actually illegal but it's such a common thing to do for many years that even the police and traffic police officers don't really care.
