Back in 1973 time zone .. I was in the Army at Ft. Hood .. went to hear this band at Armadillo World Headquarters .. back when people were sitting on the floor .. it was great! I hear this sound .. and remember! Great wonderful moments in time. What a wonderful world! .. Peeps need more of this kind of music in their lives.
Armadillo World HQ was special. People used to say there were 3 great rock venies, Fillmore East, Fillmore West, and the Armadillo. I was stationed at Ft. Hood 78-79, and went a few times. Saw Van Halen there.
Been a fan of Asleep at the Wheel for around 50 years now. First saw them at the iconic Panther Hall in Fort Worth in 1974. The lineup was Texas Weather, Asleep at the Wheel and Jerry Lee Lewis. We went for Texas Weather and Asleep at the Wheel.
As a kid in Minnesota at night my am radio would pick up I believe it was WBAP in Fort Worth/Dallas and loved their music. Also saw them on Austin City Limits. Great sound and vocals. Gotta love that Texas swing sound. Wish I was back in those days, worked really hard as a farm kid but life was better then and less complicated and less regulated and political.
I'm 69 yo and even not an US citizen (I live in EU) BUT more than once I found myself dreaming as being in your Country in those nice time... (50-60) Well, actually I spent many vacation around there, especially in TX 🤠, in the last 30 years but... It's been a mere short holiday time 😔 Greetings and cheering to country music ❗❗❗💚
It was a week ago. We were spending some lazy sunday at my good friends. Friend asked me to tell what we can listen (we used you tube). Suddandly game to mind "ASSLEEP AT THE WHEEL". The first Song was their awsome version of "Route 66". When chorus started, my friend asked " Is this Manhattan Transfer…". Will everything of Assleep at the Wheel!
SO FUN! Heard them do their Christmas show in Sacramento with my sister...we've loved these cats 50 years now...thank goodness Ray came thru that awful COVID infection, and is on the mend...keep on truckin, pal!
Incredible band. Some of the very best musicians and vocals in the business. Elizabeth is great. The sound from the Wheel never ages. It is absolutely wonderful
i am a seaoned banjo player i would give anything to sit in with these guys. im in San Antonio for a while. God it would make my life better. Can't get enough of these guys
Ray Benson sat in with the band I played with (Uranium Savages) at the last Spam-O-Rama on Auditorium Shores in '97. I think he sang Route 66. My memory is a little foggy from that time.
Be nice wouldn't it to sit with them awhile. Greetings from the south west of England, the port city of Bristol. Know the family of a nice US army colonel who lives out your way. Good luck with your music, hope you find good company to sit and play and listen together, best wishes to you. Hope things work out well for your country and your people, not the easiest times we live in. Thought I would send you a friendly message of greetings from across the water, maybe it will brighten up your day.
@@CPAlburtisRailfan I learned that 45 years ago! That is why I wrote "Ray is from Philadelphia,Texas. I'm from Israel,Texas, Ray and I have the same Yiddish Lingo. " Ray always got so much talents around!

crappy cars, all kinds of diseases, social unrest - yeah, it was nifty, if you like primate living.

Boy that brings back memories.. Jay's in Cankton where Ray had to stand in front of the stage platform because he was too tall to fit under it
Great music! Thanks for sharing

Elizabeth has such a pretty voice. They should have let her sing more.
Não conhecia este grupo. Achei-os fantásticos. A gravação de Route 66 é simplesmente do outro mundo....bem folk.
Ray is from Philadelphia,Texas. I'm from Israel,Texas, Ray and I have the same Yiddish Lingo.
He's from Philadelphia PA, not TX.

Heres my hurricane laura song playlist
What album is this? Trying to find it on Amazon.
It is a custom made album by us
Can I buy a copy?
will upload to platforms very soon!
buy any asleep at the wheel recording. they are all true texas swing since 1970
hmmmmm, The Texas Playboys played with Bob Wills. I don't see any of them in there
I suppose you are referring to the bus in the background? That was the last bus the band had when Bob Wills passed on...
Please don't take this as a criticism, but I honestly believe this would be immensely improved by just a tad bit more............. cowbell.
Moo
More cowbell!!!!
