    I find that my drawings were better before I started watching how-to videos. However, now I've gotten over that hump and back to "expressing the feeling that face gives me" as the goal. I know what you mean! The drawing videos I've watched have helped me become more aware of what I'm doing so they were not a waste. But we do have to consciously forget all the left brain stuff, metaphorically speaking, to actually draw a face that is alive and unique. I became aware of how static and unalive my drawing has become by comparing untaught first drawings with "trying to follow the rules" drawings. Now I am evolving the combination.

    This is such precious wisdom. Thank you so much for sharing this. This is such a strong confirmation of my own art journey too. I also discovered responsive drawing when I was really young and very recently just last year I've started getting back into it. I call it 'intuitive drawing' because when I draw I feel I hardly am doing anything, but much of the things are revealed to me through inner guidance, it's a spiritual experience for me. I have experienced such massive accelerated progress in my ability to draw portraits, using this way of drawing. I never yet found another person on the internet talking about this way of drawing and it feels so amazing hearing you share about this. Thank you so very much for sharing this with the world 😀

    I agree whole heartedly about drawing as an emotional response. But I also need the technical knowledge of different materials to be able to do that. I’ve found the knowledge of musculature or the skeletal arrangement useful to get overall understanding of the image. But once I know that then my emotional response kicks in which as you say is more important. I guess I’m a novice at it so perhaps need that background information. Thank you for your lovely videos- I always enjoy them and learn a lot.

    • @TonySwaby
      @TonySwaby  5 місяців тому +3

      My pleasure. Most people have a "need to know" approach to drawing. For me drawing is not knowing, that's how you really connect with your subject and it shows in the result. The knowledge thing means the outcome is restricted. My zero expectation - pure response approach seem to go against traditional thinking :)

    Sir, this video changed my view about art, drawing and all about these topics. Before this video i think i have to learn; anatomy, methods,rules and so on and i feel stuck in soo much time. But you sir taught me this is art and i have to learn myself i know if you want draw comic you have to learn anatomy and rules etc but if you want just draw or sketch it is limitless. Thank you so much sir! I appreciate it!

    I think there is a certain inspiration going on that makes us want to be creative, whether thats drawing or sculpting or whatever medium finds it's way into our hands. Its this inspiration that ignites our passion, and with passion comes our desire to keep pushing, to keep going. Though I think, skill is important, skill is also dead if there is no passion behind it: I always wanted to draw "properly" but found that the more I learned the less inspired I became. The more I knew, the more I realised I knew nothing. It was discouraging. At the moment I'm still looking for that spark, if you will, to get going again... something that makes me want to keep going and explore.

    Thank you so much for this message. It’s refreshing and kind of soothing amongst all the videos about systems to follow, loomis, reilly, geometric shapes, block-ins etc. I watched tons of it and every time whilst I’m drawing that way I think “I can’t do this, I’m drawing with my head, I’m thinking all the time, I don’t connect, there’s no life in it” etc.
    I notice every time that I have to FEEL what I’m drawing and then I can do better than with whatever system I could use. I’m looking too of course 🙂, but in a kind of ‘feeling what I see’ way.
    Nice to hear your vision. Hope you’ll make more video’s. Nice that it’s also calm……and not one of those ‘screamy-fast and funny’-type of you tube videos. Can be funny sometimes, but I like the calm approach. Thanks!
