It's a damn HONDA!!! Nuff said lol but yeah if she been sitting as long as you said then it needs a bit to rejuvenate and it will clear right up and purr like a kitten!!!
Completely blown away by the fact that you connected a jump pack and it just fired right up after sitting for a couple years. I just picked up the exact same bike yesterday and I'll be happy if it runs okay after a simple carb cleaning
The moment you opened the gas tank it gave off a clear ringing sound, and I thought, "that tank must be completely clean!" Someone took great care of that bike. I look forward to your improvements!
Must be fun to live in a place where no electric fencing is required, nor any high walls to secure your house and stuff. Looks so safe. Anyway great content dude! Always fun to enjoy the fixes with you!
You can get that speedometer apart, i've done it a few times. You need to slowly and carefully pry back that crimp with a jewelers screwdriver. The crimp in the middle, not the one over the glass lens. Once apart straighten the needle and put it back together then carefully fold the crimp back over, the metal is very soft, it's pretty easy to work with. I did this on a 1981 CB750F that needed the glass replaced in the speedo.
Back in 95-98 me and my friends used to buy the Yamaha version of this bike the sr 125 or 250 , because they were a learning bike in the 🇬🇧 U.K. ,and got smashed or crashed a lot and stolen, and we would buy them for £50-£80 , bought a lot of them!! Put something like a kx 100 front end on , put a nobly tyre on the back and then take the air box lid off and pull out the filter ( for the sound ) and then have hours of fun with all the lads down the woods 😁😁😇.
You deff should have checked the oil before you started it. Put it up on the center stand or you'll never get all the old oil out. I had a CB 350 and it had a centrifugal oil cleaner that needed taken apart and wiped out with a clean rag. This may have the same setup. They were great bikes, those old Hondas.
Check that spark gap dude! Never trust the gap is correct out of the box; the plug has certainly been banging around in there during transit and handling. Accurate gap makes for more predictable, stable and efficient engine operation!
lol, this proves my point about nobody wanting late 70's and early 80's Honda CM's. I bought the CM185 that I built on my channel for $300 with a clean title and 6k original miles. It was for sale for months. The later CM's had that god awful looking frame like this one does. They'll run forever like most old Honda's do however, if you can get past the looks and slim aftermarket options.
Told ya!!! Those bikes are awesome, my dad's old 750, sat 12 years, put battery in turned on fuel, choked it hit starter it fired right up. drained fuel and changed it," boom fired right up."
I love a classic ujm! Chrome fenders, a motor that's engineered to be visually pleasing as well as highly reliable, same height tires, comfy long range seat, chromed pipes, handlebars and mirrors, oversize back lights. The old feathered chassis are still roadworthy with fresh shocks
I wish I had that bike. So you hauled it somewhere to ride it on the road. Good call, some roads are not as nice as others. Glad it was worth your time.
bro,i had one of those in my teens.ive been looking for another the past few years now and they are hard to come by here in canada on the east coast.sure wish i had that bike.they are a bulletproof bike and will last forever.mine smoked its head off after about 5 years of constant riding and i still couldnt kill it.
There was a 6 speed model and the CM450 Hondamatic with a 2 speed gear box and a constant velocity clutch that some call a torque converter. Having trouble seeing the video clearly (problem's on my end tonight) but I think I see "Hondamatic" on the gear indicator next to the speedometer. When they were new, a few drag racers realized their value at the track. They were so consistent in the quarter mile runs that they would eliminate the high dollar drag bikes and hurt a lot of egos lolol. The guys that ran against 'em and lost, hated them. If it's the 6 speed manual, it's probably an CM450E model because they came with the wire spokes and a drum brake on the front. Check the value on them. They were climbing up the last I'd heard.
Just got a better look at your bike and it appears to be the 6 speed. The instrument lights to the right of the speedometer have a "OD" light which indicates when the transmission is in over drive/ 6'th gear. Weird way to do it. It had something to do with the fuel shortage we hade decades ago due to an embargo. Makes that bike even more unique. Need to find out why the transmission isn't shifting into all 6 gears.
Lucky lucky man! If that speedo is anything like my XL500S speedo, it is stamp pressed at the back of it with the lip running all the way around. I made a jig to hold the speedo and used a screwdriver to slowly ‘peel’ the housing apart to gain access to the internals, managed to repair it but in the end it need to be sent to a specialist.
Amazing such a good bike was given away free! I had a blue Hawk 400, best bike I ever owned. Only weakness was the expansion box and mufflers that rusted after a few years. But that 12 valve engine was bullet-proof. The sound when she started up brought back fond memories. Those small Japanese chopper-style bikes from 1980's are great cruisers, even today. Suzuki made a 450L, another classic cruiser from that era. Very strange to see a speedo damaged like that.
Amazing that someone gave that bike away for free. I'm gonna guess that they dumped it and got scared and didn't want to ride anymore. Beautiful paint job.
Gosh! I about fell out of my chair when I saw you had gotten a Honda Street Bike! Then when you started it up so easily, I started laughing! Nothing like an old Honda to just keep running and running and running. This one looked like it was kept indoors all these years. A vast difference between this and all those others you've drug home that were exposed to the elements. Some of the stuff you bring in from the Cold, I just Roll my Eyes. But, I get it, it's a challenge, and entertaining etc. The Honda 450 was Honda's largest Engine until Honda released their 750 in the late 1960's. And they were fairly fast. With a 450, you should be able to get 90 mph easy enough. Good enough for a Commuter Bike. I've owned Dirt Bikes, and Street Bikes, and I'll ride a Street Bike any day over a Bike made for the Dirt. Always enjoy a Street Bike restoration. I would be curious to see what you get for this one when you sell it. Thumbs Up on this Video.
I think the pre-750 honda dohc 450 was a bit of a hot rod for its time. The 450’s like this one here are not the same as those were and its just not a performance engine at all. Indeed it’s more of a workhorse situation, sort of like a giant 125 or something. But they are great and they last for sure. Honda makes amazing stuff.
Not sure why you didnt know the condition of the oil before letting it run and you dont check the plug gap befor installing? I have have out of the box pluge w/no gap!
Jealous here. At 78 years old I am slightly afraid to ride again but I want to so badly. Take care of that bike and you will be able to ride her for many a happy , windy ride.
That thing sounds really good at the higher rpm's. Edit: how in the world did you get that thing for free? Just being a Honda of that generation makes it worth something. Honda makes the best small engines out there.
Nice find. IDK how the tank can be that clean. You should wrap a rag or something around that positive battery clamp. If that touches the frame you have a big problem.
I think your supposed to check oil by screwing the dipstick all the way in and unscrewing it. Could be different, just sharing what I know. Also, there is a special tool that connects to brake cables like that to lubricate them. Could save you money in the long run.
@@robertdoane2164 Years ago all bike batteries were supplied by the whole saler empty and would be filled with acid at the bike shop. They don't really degrade when stored empty.
They are lovely bikes and plenty top end, here in south Africa we got the 400 hawk. The 450cc was the baby gold wing? Not sure, thanks for the classic shows bro . Kv Durban south Africa

How much for this bike?

Great little commuter bike for someone who just wants to save gas and drive to work and back...
Looks better than some of the ones that you have paid for
Old Honda’s never die!
Well we don’t talk about cr450r Elsinore...
What Elsinore ? Wink 😉
The 450 was a turd, couldn’t keep a crank it them, and they were 4 spds 💩

Never underestimate rich people throw always.
Thanks. No cussing, no loud music. Well done.
ok now that is a killer deal. nice find! Jade must be annoyed you're just surfing craiglist all day LOL
Joe , I was always told to check the oil before you start it ! Not after ! Sheesh 🙄
stupid not to, can do untold damage!
I heard a Facebook marketplace notification while you were doing the oil change can’t wait to see what’s coming next
I had CM 400T back in the day. I loved that bike and wish I had back. Thanks for reminding me me of those pleasant memories. You do amazing work
Such a beautiful motorcycle, I would love to ride that around my town!
The moment you opened the gas tank it gave off a clear ringing sound, and I thought, "that tank must be completely clean!" Someone took great care of that bike. I look forward to your improvements!
YES FINALLY SOMTHING THAT ISNT A ATV OR DIRTBIKE! MORE STREET BIKES FTW!
Must be fun to live in a place where no electric fencing is required, nor any high walls to secure your house and stuff. Looks so safe. Anyway great content dude! Always fun to enjoy the fixes with you!
I'm curious where you live to need that. Ever think of moving?

Awesome! That's a great bike. I owned a 1981 honda CM 200T and saved it from the scrap yard.
It's a nicer ride with the other style handlebars that were on it.

To get into the speedometer you have to prise up the chrome ring around the base.
yep, I've done a couple myself.
It looks pretty good for free
Dang that's a nice looking oldie for sure, and sounds good also👍😆😊...

I watched so many of your videos I recognized the barn when you turned the last corner. Lol nice bike
It’s a Honda it’ll run for ever
I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE EXOTIC BIRD LIFE IN HIS BACKGROUND BECAUSE IT MAKES HIS VIDEOS SO DELICIOUS!
That bike has a 6 speed transmission. Carbs should be thoroughly cleaned, CV slides get stuck very quickly if the bike sits.
Featherbed that is...
Carb work , battery and TLC..she will run!...heck ...no carb work even...nice!
I wish I had that bike. So you hauled it somewhere to ride it on the road. Good call, some roads are not as nice as others. Glad it was worth your time.
Those old 400's are very fun bikes. Surprising amount of power.
Dude I just started watching your videos. I can't believe how many bikes you worked on . But way to go keep those bikes going!
That thing is minty! I see the new white dirtbike in the back , what kind
Nice nostalgia find! Prince rode a modded CM400 in "Purple Rain." Yours is supposed to be a 6-speed according to the specs I found.
Yeh lovely 6 speed box for long journeys bro
I had a CM450 back in the eighties. What a blast.
Bent needle in a hermetically sealed speedometer: Great mysteries of the world
Melting plastic from sitting outside it gets hot inside of them
Great free bike and video😃😎
Old Honda's are great👍
Nice can’t beat free 👍 you owe that a seat at least as she started so easy, can’t beat a Honda 🤟
Sweet bike man looks like a ton of fun. Especially with that 3 speed trans
Cool old bike, amazing how it started right up! One of your easiest yet.

Always best to check the oil after you've already run it......
Should’ve left the other handle bars on. Those ones are weird.

Not a bad looking bike, great job. 👍
I love your videos of you do vintage motorcycles its different but nice change and this bike turned out looking gorgeous
That garage floor mat is well over due🤣🤣
Great looking vintage cycle. Free, I can afford that! I was amazed that it started right up. Sounded great, not a shot of oil or gas.
good score , nice little city bike
An old school baby Honda ,priceless little beauty
It’s a Honda!! Also for as. No crappy fuel in the carbs to dirty it up she will start!! What a deal. Love watching u bring back bikes from the dead
You can get a really nice seat cover on ebay for like $40. Comes with the metal ring and even the honda logo

looks like a cm400 not the 450 the 450s had black motors and external oil coolers. the 450 also had a 6 spd gear box and the 400 only had 5.

Normally it's a dip stick so you dip it without screwing it in. I only learned this recently after 20 years of working on bikes lol.
Honda motorcycles oil levels are checked by resting the dipstick on the case do not screw in
No you just dip the dip stick don’t screw it in
