Well , I tried it for three hunts, I’ve had small bucks walk under me, and an old doe, pass through where I’d walked none even flinched remained calm had them in one hunt for about 30 minutes, hunting in thick woods no need to buy scent killer ever again definitely works great. I let it sit out in sun for about 6 days. Thanks for sharing , great idea.
When you spray it on, do you let it dry for a while or what? I just made some but I don't want to go out with wet cloths. I actually put deer dung in it also, I hope that wasn't a bad idea!!!
I have made it and tried it it’s only be one week but I can already see results works FANTASTIC had a small doe walk 15 yards all the way around my tree and didn’t think of anything THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
Been doing this for years and have always had great results! Give it a try people I also put leaves and branches in a duffel bag and store my hunting clothes you won’t be disappointed!!
Great idea ---- I think Patterson and Gimlin were able to get that close, to Patty, because they been riding their horses a long while and I think the horse scent covered up their human scent ------ so this may help all the squatchers out there also. So get a GREAT BIG bucket --- fill it with creek water ---- throw a horse in it 😉👍
Stored some clothes with Pine Needles, leaves, Pine Chips some Ceder Shavings from the area I hunted in a Hunters Speciality Scent Free bag I got my hands on some 8 years ago. Got out of the game for various reasons and got the opertunity to make a hunt 2 years ago, obviously the cover alls don't fit but my point is IT WORKS. The clothes smelled of Mother Earth and I was taken back to the day I stored them while looking at my buck on the wall. Thanks for sharing
I like your approach. I will give this a try. I was setting up my stand for the bow season hunt and a doe came up on me and started blowing! She has pegged me every single time since the season started. Sent killer didn't seem to work for me. She is a smart nanny for sure.
Im from WV and have been doing this (maybe some small variations of) type of scent masking since my grandfather took me hunting for the first time some 20+ yrs ago. I try and neutralize my entire hunting outfit first (including any gloves, hats, socks, etc) by washing them (NO LAUNDRY DETERGENT) with plain water only until final rinse/fill then I add about 2 cups of baking soda (use warm/hot for final rinse to help dissolve the baking soda), add 2 -3 cups of hydrogen peroxide. Let it spin dry only. This seems to take around 80 -85% of smell out (to a human nose anyway). I then take all this gear (except my boots, which i do spray down thoroughly with my final cocoction, then air dry) and submerge all in my 5 gallon bucket of homemade de-scenter (or let stew in concoction a hr or 2). Then I hang dry them all outside, away from house (tree branch works great) When all dry, I store in plain brown paper bags until Im dressing to go hunt. I even use my baking soda/ peroxide mix for for my body "shower" (warmest water) and for descenting my hair also. (FYI. NO TYPE OF DEODORANT, SHAMPOO OR COLOGNE PRIOR TO HUNT DAY) (JUST BAKING SODA/PEROXIDE)For making my concoction, in a five gallon bucket, I add alot of the same stuff as the author, but also add a cup +- of freshly cut sawdust (from trees native to your local), multiple types of trees if possible (DONT use sawdust from hardware stores because of the chemicals added to store bought lumber, only use sawdust if your sure its from a local type of tree) Fresh pine shavings have a good strong smell and work great. Also, Ive had great results the last 4-5 yrs taking some fresh pine cones and/or pineneedles, a few acorns, any native nuts, berries, etc and choping them in blender with a couple cups of water prior to adding it to my 5 gallon mixture. I add this to all the other goodies Ive sourced from where I will be hunting in my 5 gal bucket with rainwater Ive been collecting. Let set at least overnight if possible. Strain it fill a spray bottle or 3 or 4, if available, I like to have extra to spray down anything (my bow, arrows, quiver, etc) I will have with me hunting. The week or so before the hunt , I let my boots sit outside (ive even let them het rained on before) for several days to air out. Then spray them with concoction and dry. Before heading out to woods, I spray myself thoroughly, get help spraying my back and any hard to reach places, lol. I even take a small 2oz bottle of mixture with me to spray anything that may come up. Ive had deer (especially during rutt) almost step on top of me while sitting in my blind. Two years ago, while me and my grandson were sitting in our blind, a big doe actually stuck her head into our blind while searching for more berries on the bush in front of us. She didn't get spooked and run (and snorting) until my grandson jerked his head back because her nose was less than a foot from his. He was only 13, but got his 1st buck two days later from the same blind. I wouldnt recommend trying to store this mix much longer than a week or so. It seems to get 'stronget' the longer it sits. Maybe 'pungent' is a better word. Anyway, as far as I know, and the majority of friends and acquaintences all use this or similar mixture prior to hunting. The only other 'additive' I occasionally put in the mix is doe urine and/or doe 'spray'. Ive gotten a buck (and doe when permitted) every yr I have went hunting. I did miss deer season 6 yrs in a row when I was living in Kansas City. Got my biggest last yr using this concoction. 22 pt with crossbow. Ive seen an even bigger one i hope to get this yr...my concoction has been 'stewing' for almost 48 hrs now. Goin in the morning. Cant wait! Good hunting to you all!
Definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for the tip and info. Whole time watching the video I thought why haven't I thought to try this. Great video.
First of all, greetings from Turkey, I will do this and use it to hunt wild boars that come to my garden in summer. About a month later, they will come to eat the fruits that have fallen from the mulberry and fig trees in my garden. Since the wind is usually blowing from the wrong direction, they smell me and they don't come near me, I hope this spray will prevent them from getting my smell.
How long would you say that scent cover concoction that you created would last? Is it good for a few weeks a few months all season or could you put it in fridge and use it next year?
I say one season.. I leave mine in the refrigerator and only use one season. I don't know if it would be good any longer honestly. Happy hunting and good luck 🤞
I’ve been doing this for a few years now. I live in Florida where our woods are full of pines, and it’s easy to do this and make yourself smell like a pine tree leaking sap. That being said I consider it a cover scent, not a scent killer per say.
@@MountaineerOutdoors our gun opener was nov 2. On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th I didn't see a deer after having plenty on camera. 4 different shooters (to me anyways). I made some the day after watching this video. I started trying it on the 6th. I've watched deer each morning and afternoon since. Last night I had two deer at 2 different times come right under my tree. I could have dropped something on their head. IDK if the spray is the reason for it but it's super coincidental. And I'm a smoker. I don't smoke in the stand but I'm not ignorant to the fact that's a tough smell to shake. If I thought doing this was BS I would say it. But I can't. I'll keep using it for sure. I would be interested in boiling that concoction and see if it still has a good smell. Just seems like its an ideal environment for bacterial growth, especially if you use rotting ground foliage. One good example would be, Yarsinia Pestis (black death).
