I think it's because other remixes was made in another genre, and were different comparing to the original. In Penultimatum music just became more dynamic and thats all.

I was playing HL2 episode 1 and was at the point where you need to kill that last Strider and board the train. And Penultimatum starts playing and I only recognized it because of this amazimg remix and I was like "heck yeah let's goooooo"
The fact that Valve still didn't call Kovalski for directing HL3 soundtracks actually concerns me.
because valve doesn't want outrun tracks in their game.
