If you don't wanna use a battery. I've dome this directly wired to my wall outlet. Computer power supplies work just as well. Currently rumming 2 1,000watt power supplies and 2 850wat power supply. I'm running a 3700 wat mono block amp with a 4 fared Cap. I don't have any power drops even on full
That’s awesome. I’ve starting to just now get into car audio and I’m already 40 years old. A little late to the game, but this is so cool. Thanks for sharing, you never know who stops by after 3 years from this video being uploaded.
I just started doing some of this exact same stuff except I’m going to use a receiver after I check to see what the RCA voltage signal voltages and make sure it matches up and it doesn’t have a mod that I bought for five dollars I may have some very specific questions if you have a background as an electronic technician and have had theory and military technical college training as well All mine was on high voltage, electricity and industrial electricity motor control, and program log controllers some of my friends were laughing and asking why I had a breaker rat that looked like it came out of a cabinet at work in the back of my truck for all of that stuff as well as a fuse on each of the copper number two is leaving the battery and I tried to show them first of all of the safety things to look out for especially with DC breakers cause a lot of people do not know they operate completely different than AC breakers and can blow up if they are wired backward dual voltage breakers that will do 12 V DC as well as 120 or 240 V AC DC breakers for my car equipment but for other people who don’t have an electrical background, I usually show them the DC combo just for their safety and they’re still gonna be flippedbut you will also need fuse but most people already know why that is if you don’t don’t hesitate to ask send me an email still on disability. This is what I found. I can make some money at his fun as well. didn’t realize this WAS an old thread until I saw this post but I didn’t realize I was 45 until earlier when a couple guys replied “yes, sir” to me t and I never missed a beat except for looking over my shoulder to see who they were talking to and then looked back at them and they were trying not to laugh and I started laughing and said yeah yeah I didn’t realize I was old enough to be called a sir, my bad and I looked over my shoulder to see who they were talking to 😅. I only got back into in the car t year ago after moving from the Florida Georgia line and the Tallahassee area down the central Florida to work about 20 years ago, but then it was six torn tendons a couple years back and I’ve been up here on the state lines again, ever since collecting disability because I’m still going through surgeries. The good thing is when I was a teenage and did it for maybe a 16 to 24 I really didn’t know much and then I found out in my career. No one else I was working with, but I became a master electrician 10 years ago. And have learned a lot about DC and radio frequency since then most important thing is that with AC you don’t have to really start thinking about voltage drop calculations until you have a wire that is 75 feet or longer but DC you can have a 50 amp change in a wire even if it’s the same size based on whether it’s 3 feet or 7 feet long spreadsheets and click on the tab better just make sure they say automobile somewhere on 12V and I would say never use copper clad aluminum cables at all if you can get around it they are cheaper so if you do, I would only use them in a cabin, but when you look at the amp rating, they are gonna be exactly the same as an all aluminum wire and you must use an antioxidant and grease when terminating: whether aluminum copper wire in aluminum, nickel plated, screw. If anyone ever needs to email me with any electrical questions in touch and I will show you or tell you where to find the UA-cam videos help a lot, but I still like to use textbooks, especially for stuff like this because if you’re gonna stay in it to have references And a lot of them and I have a ton of charts and spreadsheets for any kinds of stuff like this in my books on my bookshelves school and my Natural exam study guides you can find now and then for state exams and I would not charge anything for copies of them but if you want the book, I’ll just have to tell you what to buy but I keep all mine and they all cost $150 or more so they never leave my house unless someone buys them but like I said, I don’t sell them because I might need them but if there are any other electricians out there doing this, but mostly worked with a C I can also explain a lot of reasons why this is so different and you would definitely need a meter that measures alternating as well as direct current with a clamp at the top you can get some very different ones on Amazon for Rite at 40 or $50 with you they don’t always send you they advertise. I thought I was getting steel in order for $45 which advertised they could measure up to 1000 and they only measure AC and only up to 600 ants to each type of meter so if any measure completely different, I have a third to test those two with and it’s a good idea to keep an analog meter as well and some seven-year-old pipeline technicians told me that a long time ago and when I got it the other day, I was so excited. My friends asked me why I ordered ameter from the 1700s. The irony is the only meter I’ve ever had an issue with and maybe going through buying 15 doing my career. I still have every single one of them all work within the range of the parameters and the only one I’ve ever had an issue with was a fluke about 615 or Especially the combination meters are so expensive with them and I have measured every two or three different flute measurements and they’re always exactly the same but then has variance in the column 6.025. It may be 6.023 which will not make a difference in hardly any application. Having a cheap scope or oscilloscope helps bunches too and not just for setting gains so you can make sure your systems are getting steady direct current powder with no fluctuations and you ready as well and will explain how to use them and stuff like this even though they used to cost $500 you can get a decent Chinese one now for less than $50.
This is a wealth of information. But personally I would keep it simple and just mimick a car audio system with just the battery for power (charging it when needed) along with amp and quality speakers with subs and keep it compact and neat. Having car subs for movies in the house is so awesome, it fills the room like hearing thunder, I get hyped just thinking about it.
This should have 1 mil views. This is perfect. Definitely gonna do this route at home. Need it for testing my amps, rcas, and subs. Thank you extremely
Kinda cool seeing the cerwin vega on the test bench. I remember being a teen when they came out. I’ve got the bigger version of that amp with IA80.1 and have to say that out of all the bass amps I’ve had I like it the best. I’ve got enough stuff in shed to run 500 watts rms but kinda easy just to buy one electrical system for my truck and for home or shed every day listening......the simple plug in a home radio hit power button and have music can’t be beat. Good vid and something like this works great for troubleshooting if you have problems with your car system. Or almost a must if you have friends that are new to car audio and having trouble. You can take amp, sub, radio or anything out of the car and hook up knowing your just getting power and test whatever needed and bypass any problems that could be in the car.
It was a system in my buddies bedroom 20 years ago consisting of a power inverter an amp and a sub hooked up to an old Sony bedroom boom box that gave me the audio bug . Before that I had never heard a song with bass like that . I plan on building a powered sub box for my basement with some old parts because I’m old and nostalgic and my mom can’t tel me to turn it down anymore lol . Great tutorial dude I’ll be ordering that relay box thing is sweet
I had 2 Fultron 15's at 15 years old in 1994 hooked up to a inverter with my Alpine tape deck and pioneer 4 way 6x9's in my room! The I got the Kicker Comp 12's in a 4th order box...
I'm not looking for a home audio setup, rather just a test bench for older car audio equipment. This looks fantastic, I'll likely be ordering some products soon....
Great informative video. I'm an old school car audio guy from the early days of the JL AudioW-7 first release. I learned some great points in this video.
It was super powerful for its time, I remember Adam Rayner testing the dvc 18" model in a warehouse and feeding the sub all that the crown macrotech 5000vz could give...that's a 5k amp...it was quite a thing in the 90s
I use a PC power supply to run a 4 channel amp for a 2.1 setup I've got. The power supply holds its voltage very well, which is awesome for dynamics/transients. It also has multiple voltages out so can be used as a lab supply. I'd say the method mentioned in this video is best though, as nothing really goes wrong if the system is overloaded, the charger won't be over-driven, and the battery's voltage will just decrease. Regarding caps though, for movies/home theatre caps should be fine, rumbles don't last too long, though for music you'd probably want a battery, or even both.
I been doing this since 2006, started off with using PC PSU's. Now, I'm powering my setup with a Kinetik KIPS 12-80 power supply. (80Amps) It does the trick... But, I will need to expand and add a battery, or as mentioned in this video, a supercap for an upgrade in Audio components.
I love it when comments show age. I had a Sony car cd player mounted to the headboard of my “waterbed” back in 1994!!! Sheesh 2008! Haha. Yessir it had 4 6x9 4 ways in boxes mounted on the corners and get this….a “RadioShack” “bass tube” which was an 8” powered subwoofer built in a 2ft tube encloser. It pounded. But my back will never forget that waterbed. Worst invention EVER!!
I have done this with a 500w pc power supply to power a 1200w 2ch amp to run 2 12 inch subs and another 500w pc power supply to run a 1200w 4ch to run 4 speakers it's one hell of a sound system for my room
im trying to power just my car stereo with a 750 watt psu but when i turn things on the fan spins once then stops and the stereo lights up then turns off.getting frustrated -.-
Been there done it I use to run 6 12s in my bedroom in the younger years lol it was beast but yeah I realised you don’t need all the crap you have here just a beast of a bench power supply and your done simple
If you have a small amp say under 200 watts total you can use a Xbox power supply. If I remember it's output is 12.5 volts up to 17amps. You can get them online for like 20 bucks. I use one in my garage for the stereo out there works good for low wattage setups.
I had a question....so I have a large RV that I did a whole custom theater with surround sound. Since the RV also has 12v battery's can I incorporate this into my theater/stereo. .... Does that make sense....basically I want to add some insane pro audio mid bass drivers and need a strong cheaper amp to push them....thank you
I have 4 car audio/home setups in my house. I use 30 amp power supplies from Amazon that cost literally $20 shipped. For one of my systems I am using 3 separate 30 amp power supplies. Why only 30 amp power supplies, because $20. I actually prefer the sound of car amplifiers over home theater amplifiers, why? Power, clarity, and ease of use is why I like them. I can change out an amp say on my front stage speakers or my center channel, or the rears... I find it is more fun and stratifying setting up my own sound. I use the optical output from my TV to a DAC that converts to 2 channel analogue (RCA). Perhaps I will one day make a video of my set up and post it on UA-cam....
Hey Ed, I've found that old server power supplies are really good and cheap I can get about 3500W continuous for around $80-$100(which I guess is expensive but when you think about what you're getting its a pretty good cost to power ratio). I'm in the same boat as you were in when you were 12 lol. Can't wait until I get a car and see what it can really do! Great video though didn't think about the batteries.
I used a 600w PC power supply I got at Best Buy for less than $40. Ran an Alpine head unit to fpur 6.5 inch speakers amd a Kicker ZX 400.1 on a 10 inch sub. That thing is stupid loud. We call it the ghetto blaster.
12 or 13 😂 Thank you and you might be able to give me some tips to some of the other people left out you're right I appreciate it I'm 52 years old and just now wanting to hook up my car stereo inside my house well garage you know because it's my house and I'll hook up anything I want inside my As long as my wife says it's okay 🤣🤣😭
I have a car audio system I use for my computer speakers. It runs off a 48v lithium battery that is hooked to a 48v to 12v stepdown. I should just wire up a power supply to the ultra caps I have sitting around and run it off AC.
I'm using 3 xbox 360 power bricks, leading to my capacitor, then to my Rockford Fosgate punch 500.2. I'm not sure how much watts it's putting out, but I can guarantee you that you guys would be very surprised.
I rode with two 12 x 6x 2 JBL home towers in my caprice.... yes you can run any speaker (asblong as the impedance and wattage are in acceptable ranges)
Ohh unless you mean what BRAAAAAP (love the name btw. Whether rotary or 2 stroke) is saying, (running a 110v ac head unit off your vehicles 12v..) yes hes right, I ran a home receiver in my silverado lmfao but I used it to power two 12 inch JBL subs in a band pass unit....
i have almost the same setup, however i add a car preamp wired just for the sub and i can have the woofer bark depending on the music type and mood, (independent of the main music input vol)
I run my setup off a heavy duty car jumper and I keep an automatic battery charger on it so when the battery drops to a certain level the battery charger kicks on and keeps It charged works perfect i run a 400 wat amp with two high-end 6×9 and a 12 inch subwoofer in bridged mode it shakes the house.
Hi ... 👋 would you happen to know how to do the setup u have but with a rechargable set up.. like a Bluetooth speaker .. i want to make a Bluetooth speaker. But with 4 (6×5) 1 subwoofer & small amplifier but all hooked up to a battery that i can recharge...with a pioneer car stereo.
@@irmalindaramirez6569 you don't need the car stereo go to Amazon and Buy a Bluetooth adapter or ebay that will feed the amp on the input then all you need is a car battery a battery charger / tender run your power cables that's it man that exact setup can also be used in a car if you wanted for say an older car that doesn't have bluetooth but you would use the Vehicles battery instead
@@GOBRADON502 thanks bro.. much appreciated. Im looking to put it on rechargable batteries instead of a regular battery.. just not to sure how many ahm it needs to push the amplifier
@@irmalindaramirez6569 I know what you're saying but it would be so much easier to run on a car battery I ran my system off of a car jumper for a while then I switched over to a auto battery you could also look into getting a 12 volt power supply those aren't that expensive
Is it possible to continuosly run a subwoofer with a power converter? Or would you reccomend to add a battery and put the power converter into charge mode? Ive got a 1000w amp with a 800w output power converter.
So I'm hooked up and working bit I have a really loud hum, I came here to see what you were grounded to, in cars the black terminal on the battery goes to the frame of the car. So that's where I'm at , what should do? Get a giant hunk of metal ? Foes yours have a hum?
i got a setup in my garage 10 amp batt charger and battery jvc headunit 3/4 way electronic crossover i switch amps back and forth for highs but use a r1200-1d fosgate on 3 jl10w012 for bass
I have 3 Xbox 360 power bricks powering a punch 500. The rca's are running through my home stereo receiver pre outs. I do have a hybrid capacitor connected that displays voltage. It rocks the house for sure
Would it be worth adding around 5 farad worth of caps just to help keep the draw more constant when using a 12v supply to help increase the life of the power supply? I'm not using it for car audio indoors but I do need a 12v DC supply to run a few amps and figured the caps in series would help the power supply last longer and allow the subs and tactile transducers to have a better supply of power when they need it
I'm finding that I'm getting a bunch of "local talk radio:" interference when trying to power my amp using switching power supplies, either PC or "brick" type. it's possible it's something else plugged into that circuit, i suppose. I'm still experimenting to figure it out, but running off of a standalone battery is dead silent. I'm definitely interested in that supply/charger you have but I can imagine shelling out $ and then hearing the same conservative talk radio interference and getting quite annoyed. :) I have some APC UPS boxes that need some TLC/repairs that I'm going to try out to see if those isolate anything.
Hey showtimeSPL can you tell me if a 50amp power supply by nippon america will power a 4 channel 2000w soundstream or 1500w 4 channel orion cobalt will that power supply dip or cause the music to buck
What is the point of the battery and charger? You could just plug it straight into the Power Supply. You say its to increase power (Watts). But the Amplifier is the one that supplies the power (Watts) to the speaker system, not the Power Chain. Shouldn't it the Power Amp only need 12 volts @ the specified Amps?
It takes power to make power. Amplifiers don't produce power, they merely convert it from DC to AC audio signal. Without a good supply of power an amplifier cannot work to It's full potential. A 1000w amp that is 75% efficient will consume over 1300w. This means a 12v power supply would need to be capable of delivering 111A of current. This is not feasible from a power supply alone unless you have access to a large industrial supply. A charger and battery combo is an effective way to piece together a large power supply.
The other benefit of a battery is time. It can store energy during times of low power demand. Power supplies can't be taxed at a high percentage constantly as the heat will diminish life or overload the supply. Batteries will supplement power and alleviate strain on a power supply while at the same time as acting as a filter to level out and clean power to the amp. Power supplies do not filter AC fully when converting to DC and this can become audible with high powered amplifiers. Batteries certainly help with this.
@@SparkedEd I need 100A for my vintage Eclipse 34230 Premium. I seen this Powermax PM3-100LK 100 Amp 12 Volt Power Supply on ebay for $177. Is that not capable on its own.. to run my amp?
What if I wanna use an alternator and an electric motor to push it, and charge the batteries? I have 4 amplifiers and don't want them in my car, is that possible?
your knowledge in this field is very broad and impressive. I have a simple question. I own 2 Skar audio EVL-65 D2 6.5" 400 Watt (each) DVC 4 ohm. I bought it a year ago by mistake. ( I have not used them except for testing) I did not know at that time I actually needed a subwoofer DVC 2 ohms. so I could wire it to 4 ohms. but since I'm using 2 of them I can still run it at a final impedance of 4 ohms. which is OK. this is all meant to be used as my main sub for my living room. all I want to do is buy a car amp to have sufficient power for those two subwoofers. do I really need a battery? or can I buy just the PS unit made for the power amp? and what would you recommend? Thanks a bunch.
Power supply depends on your Amp. Find a good Amp for you and see what kind of power supply you can find. A 400w amp will need a 500w or larger supply of power, for instance
What if you arent using super caps? I just got an XS AGM battery, and the psc60 intellicharger. What mode do I need to use for that if I hook the intellicharger to the battery? Or would I just charge the battery up full and run it down with time?
@@SparkedEd ok I have a 1200w amp with 2 12" subs I'm trying to power in my house. Can I just get the psc90 power/charger supply and use it only? Or do I need to add a battery? If so which one? All of this stuff is going right over my head and I'm really trying to understand it.
Hi i have a car amplifier + a power supply control unit now it operates door locks etc. Can i use this unit for using speakers from my devices Car amplifier i have is a sunbuck 4 channels. Would appreciate your expertise
When I was a kid in the 80s I had a Frankenstein system in my bedroom, car amp and a home stereo combine with what was left of a boom box. 4 allegro speakers. My fiends loved it, I could torture my parents & neighbors with Metallica, I am sure my stepdad regretted giving me the speakers lol
Could you use a 60w catalyst line 6 amplifier and also show a way to use a cast audio amp. Why? Because i want to bypass the audio limiter so that i can add other speakers to it what i have is two 12” and three 10” series or parallel what kind of amp do i have is 2500 mono block amp
Thanks for the product demo. That relay box is on my parts list for my next build. Will there be an external control panel for the individual channels like the one used to turn on the amp or can I detach the switches from the unit for a remote style install. Keep up the good work
if a car battery puts out just over 12v and alternators supply a charge over that to around 13v give or take normally, couldn't you just run off a pc power supply using a 12v yellow and 3.3v orange wire together? or a dc power brick at around 13v, without the need for battery's and caps??
So running the XS power intellicharger with caps you would leave it in power supply mode? Running the XS power intellicharger with a XS power battery we'd leave the charger in charge mode?
Yes. That's what I do. In charge mode it reads the state of the battery and it would not read caps correctly. The caps would fair better from constant voltage from power supply mode. Batteries can work in power supply mode, but need to be topped off in charger mode once a month at least. .
@@SparkedEd so if I was going to run a serious system in the house let's say A Sundown 6K at half ohm playing modified music (long bass notes ) what would be the better route or cheaper I already have XS power intellicharger 15 amp should I run caps bunch or batteries or lto lithium? I'm looking to run something serious with reliability for a long time I'm used to 155 DB car builds so even the higher home audio doesn't do it for me bass wise anyway LOL
Lithium would be awesome but expensive. You could actually do a hybrid of batts and caps. That would be best for power, but cheapest would probably be a bunch of batteries and battery charger. You can use the charger you have, but it won't really keep up with the amount of batteries you would need to run 6kw. The larger the battery bank, the longer it takes to charge. So a larger charger and a few batts could run 6kw.
@@SparkedEd is there any way to isolate these batteries in the bank so that they don't drag eachother down, but also can consume power from both at the same time? I forget what device this is, I think ebikes uses it for dual batteries.
@raiden72 You can use an isolator, but you wouldn't want to isolate multiple batteries of the same type unless they were powering separate items. If they are multiple batteries in the same bank, they should be identical and be connected straight parallel. If you're talking about E bikes, you probably mean cell balancing/monitoring which is something completely different from this topic.
Never heard that one. Doesn't make sense that it would be true. The power supply and speaker impedance don't really have anything to do with the ability to hear details. 12v equipment is designed to operate on 12v. The only thing I can see is that it's more difficult to get proper imaging and staging in the smaller environment of a car vs a house. There are techniques to overcome this, but it's just easier in a house.
great tutorial video on how to .. I was gonna build this in my house several years back without the caps and battery supply thow . was looking to achieve around 1000 amps of power but all the power supplys where in the 3000usd range.. I might have to dig into it again with a super cap addition to it. maby it will lower the price on power supply so I won't need a such an expensive supply.
Hey ed, have a question. The super XS super caps i seen on your video to use instead of batteries come exactly you showed on your video? I ask cause i plan to buy them.. Where did you buy them? If you dont me asking.
I got bunch of old punch DSM amps I want to bench test. Is it ok to use a car battery but run a small fuse like a 5-10 amp to limit the current just to see if they turn on and work? And also use a radio as well to play music to make sure they have output. I was told to get an adjustable power supply but just wondering if it's ok to just use a battery? Also was told if these old DSM amps have been sitting for years and years just limit the current to like 3-5 amp on power supply but use a 5-10 on a battery.
My amp is 1600W but i will only connect a 600w sub and my amp need 35 amps to run but you said i should times the amps of the power supply by 10 to get the Watts but i could only find a 30 amp power supply which is 300 W which i this in not enough for the amp and the sub to run so do i need a 60 amp power supply or something else?
What if my 12v power supply only has another 5 or so amps to spare? I have no intentions of setting up a sub yet I'm just trying to find a cost effective way to have more than 50 watts per channel without a 60+ amp draw.
I have a passive powered sub that worked using the in/out speaker terminals and my home stereo. But the only way it works with my in-home car stereo is if I use the red/white RCA cables. What's the deal with that? Do I need a pre amp receiver between the car radio and the passive sub?
If you wanted to do a low-power option but wanted to be able to tote it with you, how would you recommend powering it? I've got an unused head unit and some decent 45W (RMS) 6x9's and am trying to power it in a semi-portable fashion for tailgating
Is it possible to run a cable from the power supply directly i to my amp? And will it still perform? Bc its just for a sb and it doesn't have to be extremely loud (500 w amp)
Possible what matters is the Amperes the power supply can deliver,500w amplifier needs 60A and above to constantly run the amplifier..am using Server psu and it's fine
Yup. Remember to piggy back (bridge) from the batt+ to the remote spot. Or tie a light switch (or any switch) with that bridge and you'll have an on off switch separate from the power supply.
Im just looking to run two 12 inch subs rated at 250 rms a piece off of a alpine 500watt monoblock in my bedroom for video games and movies and what not im only looking to run at most 500 watts but probably less, im thinking ill wire em at 4 or 8 ohms nothing crazy!! Could i skip the battery and just use like you said a 60 amp power supply!!
i been using a car battery off a slow trickle charger been working fine and i use a laptop for source, im an installer and just made it for quick tests or stuff i buy have vids on here but not stupid i dont blasting stuff at half ohm due to a) wire size, b) power draw, c) distortion, d) no fusing. like i said just a simple set up cuz i know audio limits and power draw example i use a 4chan and 2 chan for surround sound where im running 4ohm loads on 4 chan and 8ohm on 2 chan, yes i ran stuff at 1ohm but for short bursts nothing longer than a min cuz im either going to sell what im testing or to see if customers amp and subs will play and to see what the power draw will look like in car, i like ur vids im trying to get sum fame but stick to fb where i post the cars i build which r alot of old schools and newer cars, i worked for american bass dude wants me to come back but is really cheap cuz i did 10jobs their by myself shipping, recieving, online orders, customer service, testing, R and D, warehouse, returns, advertizing, and more. got a good rep here for audio been around it 30years since i was 8 years old i thank my older brothers cuz people hit me up for sound problems plus i stuff 3 15s in a 97 delta off a hcca 5k and have 1 of the loudest cars around for daily driver, check out my vids on here and fb same name claude mac
Xbox one power supply works as well for up to 17 amps
Thanks man. Yeah I loved my old bedroom setup. I would lay on my sub box filled with cerwin vega XL 12s and pioneer IMPP 8s and take naps to bass.
Yeah I 4 15’s for a brief moment before the parents decided it was a terrible idea lol
Heck yeah, makes for some great test bench setups.
Great informative video. I'm an old school car audio guy from the early days of the JL AudioW-7 first release. I learned some great points in this video.
cerwin vega stroker...ahh those were the days. one of, if not the best sub ever made
It was super powerful for its time, I remember Adam Rayner testing the dvc 18" model in a warehouse and feeding the sub all that the crown macrotech 5000vz could give...that's a 5k amp...it was quite a thing in the 90s
Both would be awesome if someone was able to put in the money.
Yes lots of music enthusiast has been doing that using Car audio's on their rooms since 2008 ti'l now and you're doing great also keep it up
I love it when comments show age. Worst invention EVER!!
so epic i love it haha@@jasongaudreau2075
You are the first UA-camr that I actually did use the bell for.
The most comprehensive video on the subject
I appreciate it
I have done this with a 500w pc power supply to power a 1200w 2ch amp to run 2 12 inch subs and another 500w pc power supply to run a 1200w 4ch to run 4 speakers it's one hell of a sound system for my room
im trying to power just my car stereo with a 750 watt psu but when i turn things on the fan spins once then stops and the stereo lights up then turns off.getting frustrated -.-
@@blueballs8599 check the amperage of the amp. if it's 30x2 you need a 60amp or more psu
Thats stroker sub is sweet 👌
Great how to/explainer video!
Love how to videos been woundering how to do this for years thank you!!!
Also a DIY wiring diagram for dummies would be cool to have for reference.
Been there done it I use to run 6 12s in my bedroom in the younger years lol it was beast but yeah I realised you don’t need all the crap you have here just a beast of a bench power supply and your done simple
Same - I’m trying this without the battery. 1KW power supply direct to the amp.
If you have a small amp say under 200 watts total you can use a Xbox power supply. If I remember it's output is 12.5 volts up to 17amps. You can get them online for like 20 bucks. I use one in my garage for the stereo out there works good for low wattage setups.
Exactly. Ive seen old power bricks at the thrift store for $2
Done it from the math in my head gave out more power than I expected easy no overload or nothing
Awesome, Ya get a 👍 for having an ol'school 👊 amp...
What's your thoughts of tying in the remote turn on directly to the battery? Was sure these are 2amp max from the deck
@@lloydknopp4454 I use a small jumper wire from the remote terminal on the amp to the B+ terminal on the amp for remote turn on.
Me being 14 watching this video doing exactly what he said in the beginning trying to hook up car audio in my room
Same bro did you ever hook it up?
@Isaac Wallace did it work ?
I have failed and am still attempting blew many amp fuses lolz
Bro same here lol
@lucahprescott2750 did you ever get those speakers all set up? I hope it’s been 2 years of excellent sound quality
Same here. I loved car audio before I had a car so I hooked up a band pass with 10inch clarion sub in my bedroom! Lol 1997
This ”music” in the background is awsome....
$100 is actually a great deal. As a kid I just used what I could find for free. Lol
I'm having flashbacks of my teenage years running two punch 12s off of a technics analog home receiver 😎
Dude so glad I found this. I was wondering if a power supply and battery would work.
Is that music in the beginning or a sweatshirt in the dryer?
I used a 600w PC power supply I got at Best Buy for less than $40. Ran an Alpine head unit to fpur 6.5 inch speakers amd a Kicker ZX 400.1 on a 10 inch sub. That thing is stupid loud. We call it the ghetto blaster.
you should do a video on how to make this mess it look better
12 or 13 😂
Thank you and you might be able to give me some tips to some of the other people left out you're right I appreciate it
I'm 52 years old and just now wanting to hook up my car stereo inside my house well garage you know because it's my house and I'll hook up anything I want inside my
As long as my wife says it's okay 🤣🤣😭
I have a car audio system I use for my computer speakers. It runs off a 48v lithium battery that is hooked to a 48v to 12v stepdown. I should just wire up a power supply to the ultra caps I have sitting around and run it off AC.
I'm using 3 xbox 360 power bricks, leading to my capacitor, then to my Rockford Fosgate punch 500.2. I'm not sure how much watts it's putting out, but I can guarantee you that you guys would be very surprised.
So wait could I do this but with home audio in a car?
Yeah just get a 1600 watt inverter off Amazon your chillin
I rode with two 12 x 6x 2 JBL home towers in my caprice.... yes you can run any speaker (asblong as the impedance and wattage are in acceptable ranges)

Ohh unless you mean what BRAAAAAP (love the name btw. Whether rotary or 2 stroke) is saying, (running a 110v ac head unit off your vehicles 12v..) yes hes right, I ran a home receiver in my silverado lmfao but I used it to power two 12 inch JBL subs in a band pass unit....
I have a transformer at the top it write 125 watt light it can turn it on and it 12v ac output can I use it to charge my car battery 🔋
1:40 how bout an all-in-one like a Rockford p300?
i have almost the same setup, however i add a car preamp wired just for the sub and i can have the woofer bark depending on the music type and mood, (independent of the main music input vol)

I use to have that same exact kenwood. It was so bad ass
I'm asking without watching first. Is that a CV Stroker?
I take it your DIY remote turn on board does a similar job to the old skool phoenix gold TiDD10?
Is it possible to continuosly run a subwoofer with a power converter? Or would you reccomend to add a battery and put the power converter into charge mode? Ive got a 1000w amp with a 800w output power converter.
Overkill Id say. Are you in a movie theater? haha
So I'm hooked up and working bit I have a really loud hum, I came here to see what you were grounded to, in cars the black terminal on the battery goes to the frame of the car. So that's where I'm at , what should do? Get a giant hunk of metal ? Foes yours have a hum?
Whatever power supply you're using should have a ground, they all have positive/negative.
i got a setup in my garage 10 amp batt charger and battery jvc headunit 3/4 way electronic crossover i switch amps back and forth for highs but use a r1200-1d fosgate on 3 jl10w012 for bass
Perfect for a garage
I have 3 Xbox 360 power bricks powering a punch 500. The rca's are running through my home stereo receiver pre outs. I do have a hybrid capacitor connected that displays voltage. It rocks the house for sure
What do you use to charge the battery 🔋
So do you need a car battery or can you just run the power supply
X box 360 power cord is the best for this cut the wires and the positive and negative is ready to plug and play
So could you just bypass the power supply and hook up a battery charger to a battery and wire the amp to the battery? Wouldn't that work?
I have some APC UPS boxes that need some TLC/repairs that I'm going to try out to see if those isolate anything.
Hey showtimeSPL can you tell me if a 50amp power supply by nippon america will power a 4 channel 2000w soundstream or 1500w 4 channel orion cobalt will that power supply dip or cause the music to buck
Can I use 120w anker power brick as source of dc power?
@@SparkedEd Thanks a bunch.
So you use the "power supply" function on the IntelliSupply charger when using just the super caps?
Yes. The caps will charge to the level of the supply voltage and stay there until loaded down.

Can i use this unit for using speakers from my devices
Car amplifier i have is a sunbuck 4 channels.
How much all that equipment, down to the deck cost.
Cant i just use a 12v battery with a battery charger on it to keep it topped off? or did i miss something?
Could you use a 60w catalyst line 6 amplifier and also show a way to use a cast audio amp. Why? Because i want to bypass the audio limiter so that i can add other speakers to it what i have is two 12” and three 10” series or parallel what kind of amp do i have is 2500 mono block amp
Thanks for the product demo. That relay box is on my parts list for my next build. Will there be an external control panel for the individual channels like the one used to turn on the amp or can I detach the switches from the unit for a remote style install. Keep up the good work
We do offer external switches and panels just like I used here.
if a car battery puts out just over 12v and alternators supply a charge over that to around 13v give or take normally, couldn't you just run off a pc power supply using a 12v yellow and 3.3v orange wire together? or a dc power brick at around 13v, without the need for battery's and caps??
good video, thanks for the explanations
It is said that the car stereo does not provide many details such as home audio, because it works on 12 volts and 4 ohm speakers. Is this true?
Never heard that one. Doesn't make sense that it would be true. The power supply and speaker impedance don't really have anything to do with the ability to hear details. 12v equipment is designed to operate on 12v. The only thing I can see is that it's more difficult to get proper imaging and staging in the smaller environment of a car vs a house. There are techniques to overcome this, but it's just easier in a house.
@@SparkedEd Thank you very much
He’s saying same think I said or thought when was a kid!

Can I use a Motiv Power Brick Power Supply (12V/60A/720W) that I found. Same concept?
What if my 12v power supply only has another 5 or so amps to spare? I have no intentions of setting up a sub yet I'm just trying to find a cost effective way to have more than 50 watts per channel without a 60+ amp draw.
I have a passive powered sub that worked using the in/out speaker terminals and my home stereo. But the only way it works with my in-home car stereo is if I use the red/white RCA cables. What's the deal with that? Do I need a pre amp receiver between the car radio and the passive sub?
I'm using an old pc power supply if it matters. The car radio I'm using is 10 amps max and the supply is 16 amps max.
Is there any problem putting a car equalizer inline on a home system? Was thinking of my unused Alpine 3402 parametric to help with some sub bass.

Im just looking to run two 12 inch subs rated at 250 rms a piece off of a alpine 500watt monoblock in my bedroom for video games and movies and what not im only looking to run at most 500 watts but probably less, im thinking ill wire em at 4 or 8 ohms nothing crazy!! i been using a car battery off a slow trickle charger been working fine and i use a laptop for source, im an installer and just made it for quick tests or stuff i buy have vids on here but not stupid i dont blasting stuff at half ohm due to a) wire size, b) power draw, c) distortion, d) no fusing. like i said just a simple set up cuz i know audio limits and power draw example i use a 4chan and 2 chan for surround sound where im running 4ohm loads on 4 chan and 8ohm on 2 chan, yes i ran stuff at 1ohm but for short bursts nothing longer than a min cuz im either going to sell what im testing or to see if customers amp and subs will play and to see what the power draw will look like in car, i like ur vids im trying to get sum fame but stick to fb where i post the cars i build which r alot of old schools and newer cars, i worked for american bass dude wants me to come back but is really cheap cuz i did 10jobs their by myself shipping, recieving, online orders, customer service, testing, R and D, warehouse, returns, advertizing, and more. got a good rep here for audio been around it 30years since i was 8 years old i thank my older brothers cuz people hit me up for sound problems plus i stuff 3 15s in a 97 delta off a hcca 5k and have 1 of the loudest cars around for daily driver, check out my vids on here and fb same name claude mac
