    I love how you go through the natural thought process of a 1200 player. We don’t see the patterns instantly, and we’re often stuck between 2 choices.

    If anyone got confused on the "queen trap" Qe6 there is Nc7+ winning the queen so it is lost wherever it goes.

    The common way chess puzzles work in terms of pass/fail is dated and could use revision. Many of them are a multi-move process, on hard puzzles each move is not exactly obvious, and getting any one of them wrong is immediate fail of the whole thing. When you're tackling these things it oftens results in you thinking or out loud yelling at the screen "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?". This is especially the case when there are multiple ways to achieve similar results but one is deemed ever so slightly better than the other. There is an opportunity here for someone to program something a little more dynamic and forgiving.

    @ 15:50 I disagree that its easy. I wish you talked about the follow up. I thin we gotta look at rook d1 attacking the queen and threatening to capture the knight behind it. If the queen moves one to the left of right you capture it with queen and take the knight with check( assuming he blocked your queen check with pawn earlier, attacking your bishop) and since you take with check your bishop can't be captured by the pawn that block check. Atleast thats what I think. Thought on this 🤔 one a while..

    • @musicmix590
      @musicmix590 Місяць тому +1

      Idk about you but I'm 1150 and knight e5 is the first move that came to my mind so it was pretty easy for me. But Rook d1 doesn't work because the white queen can go to e2 defending the knight(knight is now defended by bishop and queen so rook can't take it) and also threatening to take the black queen(white queen can either trade or run).so, in the end we don't get anything.

    13:39 the thing is if the rook takes the knight (attacking your queen) black ends up with less material, so it’s a puzzle where I don’t see the point of doing that move.. right? Unless that’s the best move you can find 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @beatsbygoldie2383

      Wouldn't it make more sense for white to move their king over to F1 instead of taking the black rook with their queen? White is going to lose the queen anyway, and the white king is better sheltered there, from the black queen anyway, right? (Absolute noob here - never liked chess as a kid, just looking around to see if I think it's more interesting today.)

    Whenever i see someone do these puzzles within 1 second after the board shows up they already say "Material is equal". Is that kind of overview of the board state something you develop after playing alot of games? Because i always have to look around a couple seconds and have to count the pieces one by one.

      Yeah in chess-board tactics training sessions, they would be asked first to set up the position and see the material first. Then the tactics. This really strengthens their skills. Plus he attended Gary Kasparov's classes so he must have got some rare tips too. Experience is another factor too.

      @dustinjames1268 3 роки тому +1

      Over time, tasks that used to take mental effort (like counting material or counting attackers/defenders) becomes nearly instant
      Pattern recognition is a subconscious skill that's done without awareness of the actual thought process

    • @dustinjames1268
      @dustinjames1268 3 роки тому +1

      Think of your brain as 2 separate computers working together
      One is very logical and can work through complex problems but works very slowly
      One is emotion-based and works on pattern recognition, but is incredibly fast
      Things like interpreting sounds are handled by the second system, allowing you to react to potentially dangerous sounds before you're even aware of the threat at hand
      Things like logic puzzles are dealt by system 1, and takes a lot of time and mental effort but it's more accurate

      At the end of the puzzle, it would be white's turn, so they would would recapture the knight. If it was black's turn again, he still couldn't have played it because the puzzle ended. Still, if black had another turn and the puzzle wasn't over, Ne1 walks into Rg3, no good. Instead, Nf4 captures an extra pawn. If Rg2, then you win. If Rg3, Qxd4+ is simply winning.

    • @musicmix590

      Because, if the king went to e6, white can go queen a6 check,
      1)if black queen blocks the check(d6) then we have 2 checkmates-(i)rook e8, king d7(forced) ,queen c8 checkmate
      (ii)white queen c8, two possible moves-king e7 and queen(black) d6.either way, rook e8 is checkmate
      2)if king moves to e7 avoiding check, queen f6 is checkmate.

It seems to me that these tactics put more emphasis on evaluating the actual threats. Thanks
