I didn't check the "hate comments" but I bet it's all about you cutting corners, ignoring chicanes, having trouble with the brakes and keeping race line on. I take it that despite it being a simulator you play the game just for fun and aren't a die hard motorsports sim racer, and some people are not ok with that.

In F1 2017 the Safety Car is acting just as weird. Every single time I drive and lead in a Monaco race in Career mode and the Safety Car gets on track I can pass it like nothing happened and I don't get penalized. Nice little bug :D
Here's an idea, everyone had to play as the safety car every so often; if you just quit, you'll just be put in another safety car. You'd only have to drive as the safety car maybe one race in ten.

In my career mode in Germany, I was in first by so far, it was a 25% race so I challenged myself to lap last place. Because it usually took 25-30 laps.
