  • I surprised my daughter on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, with tickets to see Paul McCartney’s last performance of the American Got Back tour on June 16, 2022. We live in Florida so I arranged for our flights and hotel to NJ.
We woke up at 4am 6/16, arrived at the airport at 6:00, only to have our flight cancelled. My wife Andrea worked diligently and got us rebooked with another airline and our 10:50 flight with them finally left at 1:50. Around 4:00, it was announced that we couldn’t land in NYC and that we were being diverted to Boston, which was 4 hours away from the concert venue. Andrea began researching distance, other flights, train options, and rental car options, but there was nothing available. Between sitting on the ground for a couple hours, and then sitting on the plane with the promise of a gas and go, we were finally told around 9pm that our flight was cancelled and we were to stay in Boston.
Rental cars were unavailable. Hotels had no vacancy due to a NBA finals game. Ubers were crazy. Around 12:15am, Andrea finally located a hotel about 15 minutes from the airport that we arrived at around 1am.
We ended the trip Friday sleeping in a bit to recover from the prior stressful day, then took off to spend a quick moment looking at Boston harbor and enjoying a quick lobster roll lunch.
It was a very emotional trip but wonderful spending a couple days alone with my oldest baby, navigating through a challenging situation together. We both agree that we can’t wait until the next Paul McCartney North American tour where we will give it another try.
    Happy 80th, Sir Paul!
    With Love,
    The Bender Family

Oh no! I'm so so sorry. I flew out the day of the Syracuse concert, with a layover in DC. I was worried for days before that there'd be some sort of cancellation, as several co-workers have had that happen to them recently.

Will definitely plan different for the next one! I thought we were good taking the earliest flight and that we would have from 9:30 am to 5 or so the explore NYC (Central Park and The Dakota) together. Surprise surprise!

awww that is SO HEARTBREAKING. It upset me to see Gibson cry. But I would have been crying too if this had happened to me. Not to mention the price of the tickets lost as well. I wouldn't trust flights these days.....so many people have had issues like this, cancellations every where. I guess you have to leave 4 days early if you are planning a trip to a concert, nowadays, but even then....you could be stuck that long anyway. I am SO sorry that happened to your family, but am glad that you at least were able to see Paul in Orlando.

So sorry you guys didn't make it to the gig. Nice video of the father and daughter spending time together though, from a fellow fan from the UK.
