Yes guys we got married (quite a while ago), or at least Civil Partnered. Its not the most romantic story ever but its out story and its a day we will always remember. Let us know what you think and tell us your stories if you have been married or CP'd Xx
Together 30 years, married for 2 (when it became legal). We, like you did not want an ‘Elton John’ wedding. We built a new home and had a close friend marry us in our living room with six of our closest friends attending. We told him we only wanted to sign the paperwork and be done with it. However, he refused and said he would not sign the paperwork if we didn’t say vows to each other. So Tim wrote our vows and we both struggled emotionally to get through them. You mentioned Valentines Day. We don’t buy gifts for holidays any longer...although we still get each other cards. We are not going to wait for birthdays or a holiday to get something. We live in a world of instant gratification...if I want it, I get it. In fact, when the FedEx truck starts coming down our street, I say “oh look, here comes the Amazon truck”!
+Jeff Porter we're exactly the same. We buy what we want when we want so we say there's no point in buying birthday, valentines gifts etc anymore. We did it for years but now we just don't see the point.
Haha I’d totally be convinced if there was the offer of food too and now I have visions of Leigh in a frock 😂😂 another amazing installment in the chronicle of your lives..entertaining as always guys 👍❤️
You guys are right up my alley. I cannot stand the fussy celebrations. I did not want to have a conventional wedding, and thank goodness, my husband didn't want any of that either. Still together after 45 years ;)
We booked our holiday to Cyrpus and were online looking at things to do when we got there. We kept seeing stuff about how easy is it to get married there (because you only have to be in the country for a couple of days to register) and decided to just find a wedding planner and do it whilst we were on holiday. We'd been together for 17 years at that point and got engaged in 2003 but never got married because neither of us really wanted the whole big showy day so tying the knot together whilst on holiday in 2017 was perfect. We planned the whole thing in 8 weeks and although we did tell our parents (who were both fine about it) we didn't tell anybody else until after the ceremony when we sat in a beach bar and messaged people back home. I don't regret a single thing about the whole experience. It was a beautiful day done exactly how we wanted it. Once we'd had a couple of drinks at the beach bar, we went back to the villa and had an afternoon nana nap before going out for a lovely meal. Perfect.
Thanks for sharing your story! I love the picture!! Lol. Nick is right, there is not much difference in the two and I think that is great that you guys did it your way. We got married only because it was such a struggle in the US for us to have that right that we wanted to take every advantage of what our community achieved in the States. That being said I think if we would have met and got married here in the UK we would have done something similar. Because neither one of us wanted a fuss either. It was just me and Ben and our friend Margaret, she was our witness, we flew to New York to make a weekend of it. At the Time it was only legal for same sex couples to marry in a hand full of states in 2014. We stayed in a little B&B in SoHo owned by a French couple. They were lovely!! We got married at the NYC Court House and then went out on the twon in NYC. We had lunch in Little Italy and then went out that night!! But that is why we did what we did. We want to do something similar here In the UK for our families and basically just have a big garden party and dancing. My mother was the same as Leigh’s mother she really felt slighted and left out but she understood why we did it that way.
Guys i was not expecting a romantic story but nothing as basic as that ha ha are you doing anything special for you anniversary next month??? throw a party and invite all the youtube gang ha ha
Well, as long as we remember the date, we are terrible for remembering stuff like this then I think at least it needs its own vlog. I think maybe we should try and film a date night video just to prove we can be romantic if we try (it doesnt happen often :)
thats not bad when it both of you could be worse if one forgot and one didn't ha ha, yep that would be a good video but i would bet that there would be gin involved!! ha ha
Awwww what a lovely story and very similar to mine . Me and my hubby lived together for a bit and decided to get married on our own too , as we didn’t want our parents to have to pay , as they didn’t have much money , but would insist. We went to a registry office with 2 friends who where the only people that knew we wher doing it . We had a meal afterwards in casa italia in Liverpool then went home and told our parents . My hubbies family laughed a bit as they knew us well , and we got p.....d but my parents where a little upset because we got married without having a doo etc. We went on a pre planned honeymoon the next day to Crete . Tragically, my dad had a heart attack and passed away whilst we where on honeymoon, and we obviously had to return home immediately. My dad was only 50 years old 😢 That was 38 years ago . How time flies . I didn’t regret getting married that way one bit . But I miss my dad every single day . Sending hugs 🤗 xx
This made me a bit sad. I’d mentioned in a previous VLOG that my husband and I had CP but as soon as we could convert it to a marriage (when marriage became legal) we converted. We call it a correction to our original CP as civil partnership was created solely as a consolation prize for gays to commit without it being treated equally to marriage. It’s not even recognised in many countries as real. Why should we accept this bone as if we are lesser than straight couples. When marriage was legalised it fixed that, and finally we were (on paper) being treated the same as the majority. I get you don’t want the fuss, and you don’t need that. We eloped and used the money on a holiday, but the registration part was real and meant we were Married and we felt it. You’re a lovely couple, I just think you’re missing out.
Still love the fact that you call it a Correction date. I think its fantastic that Gay couples can get married now and it should have been like that from day one. If it has been a choice at the time then we would have gone for that but now we did the CP already then we really dont feel the need to go back and convert it. Totally get what you are saying though. It should have been like that from the start and we should have been able to choose marriage at the time Xx
hi guys, i was wondering if you are going to do a video of "10 things we love about each other", as you have already done "10 things we hate about each other" so i think it would balance the "hate" one out and be a nice follow up to this video too. what do you think ?
+Julie Dylan 1329 Hi Julie. Yes that's definitely planned to do. We just need to write up our list of ten things. A few people have been asking for it and I think it will be good. We did the hate one first as we thought it would be more of a laugh. I'll make sure we bump it up the to do list a bit so it gets done sooner 😍😗
Hi guys just getting through all your vlogs. Love you both to bits… me and my other half have just did exactly the same.. our story is we have been together for 32 years now brought up two boys and wanted to do it to tie up all the ‘ends’ so off we went to florida in May, went to Kissimmee court house i our tea shirts shorts etc and just did it without telling a soul.. came back to dundee and told our sons, brothers and sisters and friends and that was that.. no flowers cards pressies etc… we were exactly the same if anyone knew we would not have done it for sure…. Loving going through all your vlogs but boy it’s gonna take some viewing hahaha 🤩🤩
So here is a video idea for your UA-cam channel. We would love for you both to get married and then shoot a video about it and upload it. It would be great content.
Like you we didn't want to make a fuss but we knew we had some family that would never forgive us if we had done what you did. My sister & my mother-in-law especially would have been devastated. So we had a small service at the registry office followed by an informal back garden BBQ for close family and friends. It was a nice day. Not too big and kept people happy.
We have been married for 39 years and was married on 14th Feb 1981 Valentines Day, but not as romantic as it sounds as it was the first Sat after my divorce came through and a week before my husband had to go to Australia for his work on a 2 year contract. The only way I could go with him visa wise was if we were married. We rushed the wedding and stopped off in Hong Kong on the way for a week for honeymoon. Its a pain on our anniversary as we can never get a table for dinner and always more expensive.
But now you've got a reason to do it... to make a wedding video!! HA But I like your story-- the fuss is always for other people and not the important thing.
Awww I'm a year late but congratulations ♥️ You make a great couple and I can't believe how much you both remind me of me and my man. My partner Paul is like Nick, bit more serious (grumpy) 😂 and hes addicted to plug in air fresheners and candles too 😁 I'm like Leigh, more emotional, but always up for a laugh and a joke (sometimes gets on my partner's nerves) 😂😉 We've been together almost fifteen years and still not married. I have had anxiety and panic attacks all my adult life and the thought of it just gives me the fear 😂 I watched the video were you spoke about MH♥️ xx Anyway, another great video. ♥️☺️😘👍
It still a good story...as good as a fluffy foofoo wedding 🎩...Too much money is spent on weddings 👰...and you are right legally there is no difference, we just spent so much time fighting for the right to have legal equity as well as the right to say married. In New Zealand you have to make this full repeat after me statement whether it is a civil or marriage
Nigel you are so right. Far too much is spent on weddings. I mean each to their own and its everyone's choice so I've nothing against anyone doing what they want. Its just when you hear people spending like then thousand one day I think its nuts. Are you in NZ then ? (sorry if Ive asked this before) From Leigh Xx
Bit late for congratulations, but new to your channel and catching up with all your vlogs from then😊 But just had to say congratulations to you both 😊 💞🍾🥂🎉👏👏🙌
I love your story and it’s perfect for you...everyone chooses what they want to do, how and why . I’ve been married to my husband Martin for 35 years. We only saw each other for 5 times before we got married due to him being a soldier and quite a few people dismissed us...but 35 wonderful years later we are still very much in love. We had loads of people to our wedding and dispensed with fancy meals and just a had a very big buffet (my dad’s from Sheffield, we don’t mess about! ) 🤣 , music and a really good bar! It takes lots of different people with lots of different ideas to make the world go round....I love your vlogs and you two are bloody lovely! Love and light guys xx🤗🤗🤗🤗

Frankie and Benny's! Phahhahahaha! God you guys are so god damn funny!
+Ryan and Aiden Are you guys Civil partnered or married yet ?
Haha I’d totally be convinced if there was the offer of food too and now I have visions of Leigh in a frock 😂😂 another amazing installment in the chronicle of your lives..entertaining as always guys 👍❤️
Thanks Adel......I dont think I would suit a frock :O The thought of presents and cake could be a temptation to convert :-)
The pair of you are so right for each other.love the picture of you both ❤❤
You guys are right up my alley. I cannot stand the fussy celebrations. I did not want to have a conventional wedding, and thank goodness, my husband didn't want any of that either. Still together after 45 years ;)

your about 7 years late for that :)
@@TheLodgeGuys 7 yeah is fine we can still celebrate 💯
So here is a video idea for your UA-cam channel. We would love for you both to get married and then shoot a video about it and upload it. It would be great content.
+Pauk Lee thanks for the suggestion. We love to hear what people would like to see 😍
Like you we didn't want to make a fuss but we knew we had some family that would never forgive us if we had done what you did. My sister & my mother-in-law especially would have been devastated. We should have included our close family in hindsight. Oops
