  • I enjoyed breakfast at best places of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. With reference of many foodies of Chennai, i travelled to explore the best idli sambar of Chennai, I also got chance to have Pongal and Uttampam in breakfast.
    Details of most preferred breakfast joints of Chennai is given below:
    Day 1:
    Welcome Hotel: Considered to be among the best Idli sambar joint in Chennai. To enjoy combination i took one idli and one vada.
    USP: This restaurant is known for its serving style of sambar on idli, they pour it on the table, One can feel the aroma while it is being served.
    Idli and Vada Rs. 26 + 15
    Address: No.241, Purasawalkam High Road, Purasaiwakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600007
    Location: goo.gl/exftNi
    Day 2:
    The national lodge snacks: No place to sit but still locals would come, eat the morning fresh breakfast at this joint and its so famous that you ask any auto or taxi driver, they all know this place.
    USP: Food is reasonably priced at this joint.
    2. Pongal Rs. 15 half
    Address: old 112, govindappa naick street, Chennai 600001
    Location: goo.gl/ne57L5
    Day 3:
    Hotel Metro Manor: I stayed at this hotel during the food journey of Chennai, I showed the hotel room, spoke about its services in the video.
    Due to 2 reasons i stayed at this hotel: 1st one - Central location and second reason - there is a huge park near by, i could go for morning walk there.
    Address: Metro Manor, No 97 Sydenhams Road, Opposite Nehru Stadium Gate No.4, Tamil Nadu 600003
    Location: goo.gl/NMUigk
    Ratna Cafe: Idly sambar at this hotel is considered to be among the best of Chennai. This is one of the oldest restaurants of Chennai.
    Price and name of the breakfast food i had in this restaurant is given below:
    USP: Ratna cafe does not need any introduction in Chennai, known for its sambar and idli.
    3. Sambar Idly Rs. 70: This is the best sambar i have ever had, mouth watering taste of idli sambar.
    4. Navadani Oothappam Rs. 125: Healthy breakfast food option.
    Filter Coffee Rs. 45 , I noticed little chicory in this coffee, it was more like pure filter coffee.
    Address: Triplicane High Road, Triplicane, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600014
    Location: goo.gl/eT1Yht
    Day 4:
    Hotel Shiva Sagar
    5. Rava Onion Dosa Rs. 105: Good preparation of Rava dosa, chutney and this dosa made good combination but i didn’t enjoy sambar as it was meant more for combination with rice.
    USP: This place is popular for authentic Tamilnadu food.
    Address: Old # 69/1,new 35, vepery high road, vepery, opp veterniary college chennai 7
    Location: goo.gl/VTUnjW
    There are many other breakfast options in Chennai like other varieties of Dosa but i noticed the people in Chennai prefer to have them in lunch or evening snacks.
    This South Indian breakfast food journey was highly researched and food joints i picked up were high on reference of locals.
    You may want to look at breakfast of Hyderabad where i enjoyed South Indian food:
    goo.gl/P6PhgX
    Also watch other videos of Chennai food - Playlist link of Tamil Nadu food below
    goo.gl/EZi9BQ
    Summary of this breakfast in chennai:
    Most locals eat Idli sambar in breakfast and there is no other place better than welcome hotel and Ratna cafe
    Hope you enjoyed this breakfast journey of Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
    Should you have any experience about Chennai breakfast, Do share that in comments below, we would love to hear back from you in this regard.
    Thanks for your time.

    In Chennai, we ate using our fingers, even the idli, wada and other tiffin dishes. The experience is much more satisfying than that when you eat using cutlery.

    SARKKARAI(sweet, sugar) PONGAL- made with rice, dhal , jaggery and served with some toppings fried casew and dried grapes.
    MILAGU( kaali mirchi, pepper) PONGAL- made with rice, dhal, pepper.

    'Venn' means white - so the savoury variety is called Vennpongal. The sweet variety made with rice, moong dal and jaggery is called 'sarkarai pongal' (sarkarai=sugar). Both varieties are distributed as prasadams in many Tamil temples.

    One thing I like about your videos is that you don't straightaway brand the food as good or bad. You instead say that you may need to develop the taste for it, which is actually true. A Bengali colleague of mine once tasted jolada rotti in Karnataka (Bengaluru), now Marathi (myself) and People from North Karnataka (other colleagues) loved this roti but this guy couldn't handle it and got pain in the stomach. We all ate it, but it was just he who suffered. Sometimes it's not really the food which is good or bad, it's really the taste developed over the years. You are doing an awesome job. Thanks

      Sambar test is related with how much time you cook. . when sambar is ready it kept on low flame so that sambar absorbed the flavour of spices. So test is varying on spices percentage

    Hello sir, ven pongal is a Tamil word for salty pongal and chakkara (shakkar) pongal is obviously sweet pongal. In Tamil Nadu on Pongal day people make both salt and sweet pongal. So to differenciate they are known separately. Ven pongal mein jeera, kali mirch, kadi paththa, haldi, namak aur kaaju dalte hain. Ghee ke tadke mein. Great videoooo!! Jaldi 1M viewers aa jaye yahi dua hai

    Harish. Good to see you in Chennai. Hope you had a good time. I'm travelling otherwise would have loved to show you around. What you ate is indeed 'Venpongal'. Ven in Tamil means White. There is also Sweet Pongal made with jaggery and comes out in brownish colour. Venpongal is named as such to distinguish it from the sweeter cousin.

    Khichdi and Pongal are piles apart. The rice which u use for khichdi and Pongal are very different. The aromatic basmati is not suitable for Pongal. U need to use proper Moog dal. And a lot of ghee is used and the jeera and pepper seasoning is also important.

    Thanks for your nice video on breakfast from Chennai. I think after tasting the South Indian breakfast you will agree that the stuffs are better than North Indian stuffs like Chhole Bhature. However you missed Murugan Idli , Mathsaya and Sangeetha and ofcourse Saravanna hotel.
    Thanks once again for amazing video.

    • @visa2explore
      @visa2explore  6 років тому +6

      Thing is that north indian food is not only about chole bhature... like if you ask me its only once in 3 months we make chole bhature at home...that's also not sure.....
      we have couple of other things like poha in breakfast...Delhi has very little food of its own....I approached Sarvana bhavana and Murgan idli couple of time for approval to shoot but didn't get their consent...

    • @daniel061208
      @daniel061208 6 років тому +1

      Murugan Idly may not allow you to shoot...Its a very busy Mcdonalds type fastfood joint....But pls try their 'Podi Idly'(ask for extra ghee if its too spicy) next time you are in Chennai. It is a work of genius. Also the owner of Murugan idly is a very inspiring personality.

    • @ankitraghuwanshi5055
      @ankitraghuwanshi5055 6 років тому +1

      Sam Sung bro you are nutritionist and yet you are saying indian food is healthiest baffles me, I live in Canada and have interest in food around the world , my curiosity led me to consult many doctors many of whom are indians and almost all doctors told me that indian food is very bad for heart, india was a land of farmers who work day and night and our food was evolved to meet that requirement but time changed after independence but food doesn't on contrary become more and more butter sweet based which is deadly, if you consult food scientist apart from chilly all spices have very negative impact on lungs and kidney , yes soft drinks are bad but if you see overall food of Western countries it has much lesser calorie count

    • @visa2explore
      @visa2explore  6 років тому +5

      You have a point when you say walking may not be enough, i missed carrying my running shoes so i did walking and deep breathing...
      no doubt health is wealth but i disagree on - Indian food is unhealthy...My father is 78 and he clips 2nd floor of house 25 times a day... he never did diet in his life.... he enjoyed every thing on food from his childhood ... and yes mantra for him is to be happy....and look for happy moments....

    Bali ji, I was looking forward to this episode as i had suggested few spots alas it didn't figure in yr episode, my luck😯. Its Ven Pongal but people in Chennai call it pongal in short. The uttappam that u had is 'nava danya' uttappam means 9 pulses uttappam. Eating idli in Chennai has this unique style of pouring hot sambhar on idlis, it simply enhances the taste. Thanks, felt like being there myself 👍

      reason i am not doing Delhi is bcoz i don't want content to get regional... it has its advantage and disadvantage as well bcoz some people may subscribe only for content of their region but may realise that i travel to every state but then some viewers will like this appeal to travel to one city of every state.....
      plus this can be used as a resource to plan family holiday food journey
