Yes Eric - I discovered these trays by mistake when I forgot to bring my own ( not so good trays) for djembe or congas when I played at a local open mic night. I usually play congas standing up so they're not needed then and sometimes have difficulty keeping an angle on the lead drum (without dropping it!) while holding them between my legs and also minimizing the gaps between drums is easier for me when standing. Probably a lot down to personal preference but I definately prefer playing bongos between my knees wherever possible. I think it's great you go into a lot of this kind of supporting stuff. You are my main tutor and really appreciate all that you do
Yea buddy for serving up yet another tasty conga video!! That was fast! Never would have expected serving trays but that's how percussion has thrived since the beginning - necessity is the mother of invention! ♡ THINKING OF CHIPOTLE NOW!
YES, THERE IS AN INCREASE IN VOLUME AND A SLIGHT ECHO TO THAT CONGA. FROM NOW ON I'LL DO THIS I WONDER IF THE HARDER THE PLATE THE BETTER THE SOUND LIKE A GLASS PIE PLATE. OR MAYBE THE DISTANCE FROM THE DRUM TO THAT PLATE. I'LL EXPERIMENT AND LET YOU KNOW AS I SIT DOWN TO PLAY AND MY "LP" CRADLES HAVE MY DRUMS ABOUT 4 INCHES FROM THE GROUND!!
You and your channel are a godsend for the newbie and beyond! Not only do the trays improve the sound greatly, they also act as 'furniture gliders' and as a result the congas can be slid around much more easily than on their rubber or metal ringed bottoms...¡muchisimas grácias!
Have you ever considered offering to work with ManitoPercussion? Ryan could send a set of congas for you to borrow to do one or two months of videos with them. It would be interesting to hear what you think of congas made from solid tree trunks.
This is the best thing when putting your conga on a platform as the carpet does not absorb the sound entirely, you still retain a lil bit of the overtone thats thats helps the melody.
I will so do this man this saves me so much time no LP conga feet no more this is easier & sounds awesome so yeah when get a chance off to my thrift stores Deseret Industries, Savers & Goodwill to find serving trays
Huge thanks to you and to James for this awesome idea. I was looking for alternatives to those overpriced soundplates on the market and this seems perfect. Much appreciated 👍🙏.
Wow, Bro that is some inventive stuff! The plates give more reflection to the sound when in carpet the sound is muffled. You know I have seen those trays here in the house, as my wife has some for when we have get-togethers but I would have never thought of it. I have seen LP, Gon-Bops and many others with their version of a riser, and they are expensive! This will be cheap as hell! Awesome info!
Is there any specific kind of tray to make a deep difference with and without it? I wonder how a base or carpet is able change the sound of congas. Nice video my friend Eric Perez...cussion Life 😄😄😄. Perfect for Taco Thursdays 😄😄😄!!!!!
Any opinion on what drums are worth putting on a recording? Looking at either giovanni plats or whiskey. UA-cam doesnt do it justice. Prefer warmer over brighter.
I LOVE THIS IDEA AND TRIED IT LAST SUMMER, PERHAPS IT WAS MY LACK OF SENSITIVITY BUT I WAS MIC'D AND DIDN'T FIND THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE. PERHAPS I SHOULD HAVE HAD MY FRIEND HIT ONE WITHOUT THIS PLATE WHILE STANDING ON THE STREET, THEN PLACE IT UNDER THAT DRUM THEN HEAR IT??!!
Hi. Great video. Please could you let me know why congas can be presented and played on stands. I see you play yours on the floor. Is it a harmonic difference you're going for? I'm not sure whether playing congas on stands (therefore opening up the bottom of the conga) or playing them on the floor ( thereby dubbing the sound) is better? I'm recording congas soon and would love some advice on the matter. Many thanks
Soooooo really more on preference on my end… I prefer sitting down but I use serving trays or wood plates to lift the drums a bit to not dubbing the sound… standing up is good on the back and you can also mic the bottom of the drums even easier for recording purposes…
But it’s all preference…. I’ll say if you’re doing multi percussion then standing up is a better option as you have to move a lot… but it’s all a matter of preference and how your drums placed on top of… some seated players use stands that lift up the drums which as well help with projection
Many thanks for that. I hear MORE resonance with the congas on stands which is obvious as the bottom is exposed, thereby giving a more open sound. That said for me ..hearing the congas played when sat ON the floor it sounds tighter and focused. I get its a preference thing. Its just interesting to see (hear) how other percussionists work to get THAT sound. Like most questions when it comes to music. It's all down to personal preferences. In any case. Thanks for your advice.
Great I have to try it. I wonder how metal pizza trays would sound, would they offer enough vibrations to make a difference to act as a resonator? I’m a new subscriber, thanks!
I use stands. They are low to the the ground and allow me to still use a stool. I would have loved to have seen how you place them under the drum. If you have stands would you still use them?
As soon as anyone I have never seen before begs tor me to hit subscribe before I have watched the information on the video, I hit stop and move on to someone else's video.
yo doggie gotta bring your fingers together your open tones and slaps will get cleaner.. just saying .. keep up the good work brother, if your ever in eugene oregon hit me up
Carlito Peres what bro?!!? Not necessarily. Technique factors in a lot with sound. Have u seen ppl close slap a conga with just the edge of the pointer finger? Same concept.
Open and closed hand positions are used to produce varying tones. Some people use more tones than others in their playing style. You can see Eric uses a number of hand positions when playing. It often makes what you're playing more interesting if used effectively.

I bought some trays right after I saw you video. Looking forward to try them out, especially at Church. Big Thanks!
Them congas would crank ona chunchaca riddim 🇸🇻
Bless Up Eric you the man✌🏽

Thanks Eric, glad to see you use them. I also use them ( flip em over ) to cover and protect the drum heads when I’m done playing or when traveling.

Muy interesante. Saludos
Amazing positive energy! Keep at it!

djdrop02 awesome!!!
Thank you for sharing!!! This is great, I was going to ask you about this the other day!
Carpet steals all the reflective tones from your drum. Hard surface underneath lets all the sound waves reflect back to the head. Nice!

These look liie a great option, for sure, but do you have any thoughts on the LP Rubber Conga Feet?

Bro! Donde conseguiste esas conga heads de ese color? Very sexy finish. Or is there a video on how to make them look like that? Thanks!
gracias por tus tutoriales mi hijo de 12 anos esta super interesado en tus tutoriales... mil gracias bro.
william henriquez Gracias a usted!!!
Now? Upside down (so sound goes through it). Or flat on ground/right side up?
Any opinion on what drums are worth putting on a recording? Looking at either giovanni plats or whiskey. UA-cam doesnt do it justice. Prefer warmer over brighter.
Donde las conseguiste Erik? Me urgen en verdad! Algún tip Bro?
Wao 👌👌😉
Buen sonido
Saludos eric, bless
I can hear the difference just from listening on my phone. One question, what kind of heads are they? They really project.
Brighter sound with trays. Weeepaaa
I call magic a huge difference just🎉❤️❤️❤️👌
I like it.gives a nice sustain.Are in shops??

Is there a difference between the fiber glass ones that you have and the plastic ones
Eric, I bought some round trays to place underneath, but they ended up being a bit to small. What size do you recommend? Thanks!
Great I have to try it. I wonder how metal pizza trays would sound, would they offer enough vibrations to make a difference to act as a resonator? I’m a new subscriber, thanks!
For those who are starting...where do you put them?
Para los que estamos empezando.... donde pones las bandejas? Gracias por la info!
Waiter...waiter...besides the drink, can u please bring my ur serving tray? Hahahaha
bongosabroso 😂😂😂😂

Do they slide around alot on some stages? Or not at all
christisn salas they haven’t for me... and I would assume carpet would cause it to slide more but they don’t for me and not on wood either.
Yo uso un tapete anti-fatiga, es de goma y está lleno de orificios, por ahí sale el sonido bastante bien, y es antiderrapante
To me it made most different on the tumbas (broader open tones) but I didn't like hearing as much bass from the conga somehow.
Eric are these trays fiberglass / hard plastic ?
Hard Plastic... I wish they were fiberglass
@@APercussionLife I found fiberglass trays on Amazon
I looked them up and the description does say fiberglass.
@@dylanwbarnes I have been using them for 2 years now when i play on carpet or wood floors
Can I check the recommended size? I bought the recommended 11" but they are far too small and look smaller than the one in the video
Are the trays upside down?
Nice
The trays can be found at any restaurant supply store
It sounds more wet. Adds some room to it.
Slaudos amigo yo tambein toco las congas
Mmmmmmm i wonder what i'll be shopping for this weekend??
What sizes? All the same aize?
Is it still useful if the drums are on small conga rubber feet?
Yea those are fine!
Che que son los cosos esos? Le da más volumen y resonancia, están buenos.
Charolas de servico, las ue usan los meseros para llevar cosas, o sobre las que ponen las pizzas, son plasticas
If with no trays (or other surface for sound projection), they have less sustain, because air inside congas are trapped.
As soon as anyone I have never seen before begs tor me to hit subscribe before I have watched the information on the video, I hit stop and move on to someone else's video.
great idea but i think theyd rock about on my uneven stone floor
Are those plastic?
rriqueno yes they are
Could you show us how to do the different patterns you played in this video starting from 18:10 - ua-cam.com/video/evJxt57nmYs/v-deo.html

Drums🥁 sound better WithOut trays! Trays have annoying🙉 harmonics and overtones..
