    Wonderful episode, again. Thank you for your work. Lenny is a first degree influence on my development as a pro percussionist. (With Paulinho, Airto, Ralph, Luis, Mino, Bashiri, Nana, Giovanni, Don, Nippy, Raul and a few others) I am thrilled to have been invited to Lenny's house the night after we met in the Baked Potato. So cool to hear him talk about how he approaches music as a percussionist. Watching the world series (for the first ever time) with the family was something else, coming from Europe... We also hung out in my hometown Amsterdam when Lenny was here for clinics, with also Martin Cohen who as always made great photo's of the hang. (Including one of us jamming with Joey Heredia). Anyway, keep up the good work. All the groovy best from the Netherlands.

    ¡¡¡Guao!!!

    Also out of NY Ray Barrett got a lot of studio session with many jazz groups and was used heavily for recording sessions. As was Potato as well. Patato was with Bernie Mann.and did an incredible solo that my friends still talk about to this day. Wish i could find that cut.

    First of all let me thank you for your time and effort that you put in to these videos for other percussionist like me around the world. Our greatest value is TIME not money and I know it takes time to lay this knowledge on us. However, money is great too!! (HAHAHA) This groove is straight fire and I'll be using it with my band as well. Peace and Blessings to you and yours.

    Love the lessons. Got a question: I don't know if this is possible, but I was wondering if you would be able to do a tutorial that is song study from the conga players point of view. In other words, explaining the musicality involved in playing an entire song vs a particular technical aspect. That would be immensely educational. When I was a kid, I could listen to the drums in a rock song and hear what was being done but I often find it difficult to hear exactly what is going on when it comes to the conga. There is so much other percussion going on a lot of the time. And even when I hear it, I'm still not sure how it might be being played (are they using double strokes, single strokes, are they using their right hand to do ta particular slap, etc).

    Greetings Eric! i was not aware of Lenny Castro so many thanks for the introduction. That is a great groove of his which ,as always , you break down and explain very well.
    Your congas sound beautiful with lovely tones across the range. A wonderful resonance and a delight to the ear. I wish my Meinl's sounded so good. i am seriously thinking about switching to Remo Fiberskyns. i don't think the skins you use are available here in the UK.
    All the best.

    Isn`t better after the first stroke in the tumba (with the right) the following two opens in the conga to be (left-right and not right-left) so the left hand is more free and prepared for the next palm-slap ?

    Papi...because you are such a great lecturer and teacher, I think you should definitely consider a facebook live session, or two. It would definitely reach a larger audience BUT my concerns is that it wouldn't have 'los sufritos' that you add in the videos (e.g. the voicings, glasses, the reference videos, etc. etc. etc. So if you can't add those little things, I would prefer the youtube. GREAT STUFF! kEEp ON, kEEPin oN!!!

    Hey Eric,
    First thank You for the channel and Your work on it! I would like to ask You for advice. For a beginner with two congas (Quinto and Conga). Where should i start? There are no teachers in the area im living in, so im using the next best thing UA-cam. I have been blessed discovering Your channel but still i need a way to follow. Im a salsa dancer and teacher and i have decided to bring my knowledge to the next level by learning my favourite instrument.... THE CONGA.
    I have basic Tumbao with some variations on the Quinto and a little bit on the Conga following the clave pattern. But where i go from here? Ruddiments? Please share Your wisdom with me. Have a good day and thank YOU one more time. Cheers from Bulgaria/Greece

    • @APercussionLife
      @APercussionLife  6 років тому +1

      Bozhidar Gugushev that’s great!!! I would really focus on your tones before getting into Rudiments.... if you’re tones aren’t right... neither will your rudiments... so focus on getting a consistent open tone, Slap, bass, etc.
