I think your tips most of the times are accurate and so are this one, except that you should NOT let your level on the instrument reflect on your character or your self-esteem. We are already too hard on ourselves most of the times which just leads to (more) performance anxiety, unwellness, depression etc. As a professional trumpet player working in a symphony orchestra I can't stress this enough. Work hard, do your best and be proud of yourself. If things are difficult for you and you feel behind when it comes to trumpet, think of how you can change the path but don't ever let that value you as a person. Trumpet playing is a skill that you can achieve with many effective practice hours. It does not make you a better person. And of course, the most important is that we are enjoying ourselves. As long as you are feeling good and you are happy, it is all good no matter your level on the trumpet.

I agree, making the trumpet your only identity is a horrible idea. I think it’s important to uphold the standards you set for yourself but always within the broader context of your life as a whole.
