- My St Augustine has been invaded with rhizoctonia which is called Large Patch or Root Rot in St Augustine and Zoysia and is called Brown Patch when it hits cool season grasses like turf type tall fescue.

Here is the Scotts DiseaseEX on Amazon and it's cheaper than at the store amzn.to/2YrloC2
Lowe’s will price match Amazon.
Like $5 off and I dont have to drive to Home Depot! Thanks Allyn! I usually use liquid azoxystrobin, but I may pick up a bag to see how the granular works since its quicker and easier. Actually, I just did the math and at $15/ bag and Azoxy 2SC at DoMyOwn for $125/ 16 oz thats almost the same cost per app at the high rate (0.77 oz/ 1000 sq ft). Somebody check my math, but I think its really close and just slightly more for the granular at that price (at $20/ bag at Home Depot the liquid is the much cheaper option, but you have buy in with the cost of the bottle and spray equipment if you dont have it).
Them Elephant Ears look good Man! I have never seen them look that good
@@jamespope2407 Thanks bro! I hit them with the FloraGreene 3x per year. They love it. I have to prop them up.
I have St.Augustine grass it has dry patches and some weeds in various sections. I’m in California it’s been about 84 degrees so far. Do you recommend using the same technique on the video? Also I used the amazon link to avoid going to the store , hopefully one bag is enough.
This is by far the BEST informational educational lawn care channel hands down.. Thank you!!!
Really appreciate your video. Am battling a huge area and have manually remove most of the dead grass. Thinking of laying some new sod over my bare spots 10 days after my treatment. Hope it works!
I'm "down over there" in Ruskin, FL fighting brown patch/root rot in my st aug weekly. Thanks to you, I've seen some success. I'm going to keep trudging along instead of giving up and calling in the "pros." Appreciate the videos my fellow Ex-Chicagoan!
I'm in Tampa and also from Chicago! Bears look good this year! 🐻⬇️
Thanks Allyn for another informative video. Anybody who watches your channel will be empowered to take over their lawn care from the chemical companies. I fired my service last year, and my lawn looks way better since I started watching your channel and doing it myself. Great job.
Great info. I use the bullet proof strategy in my tttf and it works like a charm.
To hear you talk so casually about going into 2020, really makes me miss the time before covid. Made me reminisce a little bit. Thank you allyn. This was extremely helpful. I saw results almost immediately the next day.
I was wondering what was happening to my back yard grass it started 2 months ago. Backyard was my best grass and turned to the worst. Thanks again for your helpful videos.
You're welcome ! Good news is the St Aug will recover in most cases
Love the videos with solid content and way less filler! Keep them coming. Thanks!
Thanks! I enjoy these too.
Another awesome video 👍
- Love the azoxystrobin. Helped save my grass at the curative rate. Planning to use the preventative rate every 2 months.
- Propoconozol made my lawn appear more brown however. Like a wet brown look. Don't know why that was. Almost as if the fungus had spread faster. If anyone has seen this before or know why, please enlighten me. 😁 I must admit though that my lawn was not yet measured when I used it last, but I thought with the propoconozol you can use as much as you want?
- Planning to mess with some stuff like neen oil, copper, peppermint, etc. But I don't have high hopes for these.
Very helpful Allyn esp. the tip about seasonal transitions.
man, thank you for such great details - I will follow your instruction and apply the Disease Ex ASAP!
Hey Allen. I really like your lawncare tips. Its helped me out alot over the past couple years. I was wondering if you have any experience with moles? I get my lawn looking great then they distroy it year after year. Ive tried alot of over the counter stuff with no results. Thanks again for all your vids. 👍
I had fungus in my TTTF and had to throw down some Scott’s Disease Ex at the curative rate. The fungus went away in less than a week!
Love these str8 educational vids. Nice edit!
Boy I know that look in the yard! I fight that fungus every single year in my St Aug, and here in Central Texas I have learned that it will show up in May/ Jun whenever we have rain and the grass stays wet overnight. Then it comes back again in Sep/ Oct following rains. This Fall I had good success with mixing in some thiophanate-methyl (Cleary's 3336, etc.), which is a FRAC 1, with my usual treatments of myclobutanil (FRAC 3) and azoxystrobin (FRAC 11). I have tried to avoid doing systemic preventative treatments to avoid "throwing chems", but next year I will treat those 4 months (May, Jun, Sep, Oct) at preventative rates to see if I can keep it away. I may mix in some propiconazole too, but its the same MOA (FRAC 3) as myclobutanil.
Appreciate the product references, schedule, etc. Thank you.
I’m new to this, just bought a house last year. Love the videos, they are very helpful. How do I know or is there a way to tell if the brown spots in my yard is from fungus or lack of water?
Thank you for the detailed, educational, information.
Awesome video - answered all my questions! Good on you -
Great video. Seems like I get grey spot in the same places every summer. While other areas never have a problem with the same irrigation and fertilizer. Brown patch is the same way.
I bought the Scott's Mini and put out Scott's DiseaseEX for greyspot. I measured out 4lbs (the curative rate per 1000 sq ft) did an edge pass and two straight passes, all gone. I used the curative rate per the bag and it took the entire bag of product to a little over 1200 sq ft. I thought it would have been a little more accurate than that!
That bulletproof strategy 🙌👌👍
I see the grey patch on LCN's upper lip was treated for fungus, too.
It was scalped clean off! 😄
The old LCN Chicago/cool season footage always makes me feel nostalgic.
me too!
Try to find liquid Azoxystrobin, you can mix it with Propiconazole and apply them together. Save labor and time. Don't forget to use sticker and some colorant to avoid application overlaps.
THIS IS SPOT ON....On my way to SMHO DEEPOT to get a bag of Scott disease ex. I am new to the lawn game. I just planted a Fescue (tall/fine) Rye KBG lawn this spring {know fall is better) and it came in great. We are super hot and humid now. On the side of house I have brown patch. This is all new to me but the BATTLE IS ON... Take this Fungus. I also have some crabgrass but too hot to spray "post emergent" but ready for the fall with reseed and pre emergent. I will do the retreat of brown patch next spring as well in this area. GOOD STUFF>
Thanks for the info!
Great channel! Clear, concise and very informative. Does this teatment work on all Zoysia grass? I have Palisades Zoysia, which I installed last February, and wondered if this treatment is safe for Palisades grass and safe for lawns only a year old. Now that I know large patch disease can stay in the ground for years, explains why my old St. Augustine grass would look like this every year until 2 years ago when it completely died.
Very helpful video Allyn! 🤙🏼
thanks bro 👊
Not looking forward to my fungal battles next year. Definitely going to be a challenge with a lot to learn.
that's what she said.
😂🥴
Im here now because I put down preventative in the spring and forgot too in late summer and fungus got me.
Always helpful. Thanks
Thanks - great video
I usually buy the Scotts Disease Ex for $11 at Walmart. That’s the everyday price there.
That's a super good deal for sure! Get all you can lol
Another helpful video for the average homeowner who wants to " dominant " his neighbor.
I feel SO much better you have it....
well thanks! 😅
@@Thelawncarenut I left off the "too"
How do I know if my brown spots are not caused by chinch bugs or some other bug rather than fungus ?
From my experience, fungus you can tell by the orange ring around the circle. Chinch you look close enough at the dirt by spreading with your fingers you can sometimes see chinch🤷🏼♂️
I think grub damage, turf will pull right out. Disease turf will still feel rooted and wont pull out as easy. Tugg your turf
Nice video man, I’ve used the Scotts fungicide prevention, not too bad stuff.
thanks bro!
We went back to treating our own lawn. The "professionals" made the weeds multiply, almost like they were feeding them. I develooed this in my front yard and had no clue what it was. Thanks for the video. I subscribed!
welcome to the team, buckle up and hide your wallet ha ha!!!!
I’m in lawn brother. Thank you 🙏🏼
Good information
Yet another informative video. Would you say to cut the affected lawn a tad lower, say, 3" and bag it, so the diseases grass does not fall back into lawn?
My lawn Guru.
Great informative video. Do you water as usual after the treatments?
Edit: got the answer from the video. Thanks again.
Hey man! How long should I wait before aerating my lawn after fugal treatment? I also need to treat for weeds.
Early Sunday video💪🏼. RIP to the stache...
she gone!
Thanks
Seeing you with your sunglasses on and a pair of what I am assuming are transition lenses on your hat brim made me think of my dad. I'm sure I'll be there one day, too.
Very timely. I noticed a few small patches of large patch in my zoysia two weeks ago after a week or so of cool temps. It only appeared in the areas of traffic from the garage to the house. All the other areas with little foot traffic are still deep green and healthy. My guess is the grass is weaker in the traffic areas, and it may spread by our shoes?
I think that is some solid detective work for sure. Time to get some stepping stones!
THANKS!
Looking for suggestions on large patch areas in my Zeon Zoysia lawn. For the past 2 years it was beautiful
I recently laid down Porvista Augustine three weeks ago. Thanks to your videos lol. I live in Central Florida been having rain every day. I have spotted Grass blades and yellow grass blades as well. My question is am I able to put diseases ex. On new sod
Keep an eye on Amazon. I’ve seen prices drop as low was $11 with free shipping.
I picked some up at a fire sale they had in the spring and it was around that price.
First time home owner
Been seeing brown patches in my grass that have gotten worse
Initially I thought that it just needed more water (wrong idea) and I’m just embarrassed to show my house. Never knew that overwatering grass was a thing
I hope doing this will help my grass. It’s been stressing me out for the past week
Great video! We are unfortunately way late and now have bare spots 😢 - would this treatment strategy help bare spots grow back or do we need to lay more sod first?
What's nice here in Michigan is i can sit back and take a break from lawn care for a few months. All o need for the next few months is my snowblower.😜
sounds like a party! 😂
@@Thelawncarenut Come on up if you get sick of all that sunshine. Lol 🤣 We got skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. 👍
If I'm going to utilize the BioAdvanced Liquid Fungide on my lawn, should I first trim my grass then proceed with applying the liquid treatment for the fungus? I have about 1,035 sq ft of my lawn. Thank you for your help.
Do you recommend applying the bioadvanced fungus control immediately after applying the Scott's disease ex? Should I also reapply every week or two until the fungus resolves? Thanks. Appreciate your videos
Same day is fine, then both again in 30 days if no current issues
Can this bullet proof method be done in spring.
Here in South Louisiana I notice brown / dead spots
I treated with Bifin xt to kill the sod web worms which could be part of the problem. But I want to treat with your 2 recommend products this spring
When will we be getting another episode of the podcast? Miss hearing you in my earbuds
I'm hoping to get one out next week and will start up again weekly in the spring. I miss doing them!
Good video. Does your feedback also apply to Texas St. Augustine grass? Thank you.
I've got brown patch in Tampa as of this post. However, it's because I cleaned my mower and lowered it to 1 and didn't catch it. 🤦♂️
Lol... I've done that too many times to count my friend. Ouch!
🍻
Ever try the Spectracide Immunox Fungus control?
We seem to have this in 2 areas where we used to take trees that have been taken out, could the dying root systems cause this?
Are we talking air temperatures or soil temperatures? How do you bag your clippings if you don't have a mower that bags?
We are in Southern California, Corona to be exact. Can we use the same protocol?
I appreciate having a break from lawn care where I live. You guys it never ends.
That's true - just a little slower now so I can put up some Christmas lights 😂
Should I put down fungicide before fertilizer even if I don't have disease? I do have some moss. Should I use fungicide for the moss or moss-X? Thanks
I'm waiting for my new backyard. Time for a new mower👍🏼
its always a good time for a new mower! 🤘
@@Thelawncarenut yeah and a whole lot of green county ferts an Milo 👍🏼
How soon after this application process would I be able to safely spray down some Milorganite?
How long should I wait to do a second treatment?
My St. Augustine developed this just a few weeks ago and it’s slowly spreading. I am in SoCal, and night temps are 45-60 degrees and about 70 degrees during the day. Should I still throw down some milo after the disease control ? Even if it’s colder temps? Bit confused as I know nitrogen is good during growing season?
Do u need to do this if u aerate and overseed?
@The Lawn Care Nut - Is it too cool here in SW FL to apply N-EXT D-Thatch? I have some areas of St. Aug. I'm trying to encourage to fill back in after some drought and herbicide damage.
Hey LCN.... it’s getting late in the season. Any Christmas deals taking place on N-Ext products?
Hi Bud , I follow your videos for all my Floratam needs. My issue today is : I applied Scotts disease Ex for brown patch and TARR .. It rained over an inch about an hour later ..Should I reapply ? Thnx
Hi Sir. I moved to new constructive house (Loxahatchee) with new sods planted in November. Brown patches are everywhere. Can I apply the product in January? Thanks.
Hi so if I have a active brown grass area can I use the Scott's Disease and the spray to???
I have a section of St. Augustine that was attacked by large patch and killed it completely. I have looked and at first thought Cinch bug but cannot see any. I don't want to go through this again next year. Can I dig up all the dead grass, apply top soil and apply plugs or sod as here in Southeast Texas it's still growing temperature for the next 6 weeks, more or less. The dead area is approx 3ft sq. I applied fungus control and insecticide to other areas of the grass and they are still green. There was a brutal drought this summer and despite lack of water my grass has maintained decent health. But not much rain again so I need to be sure to water
Allyn I have TTTF in NC. It’s been in the 90’s. The only place I seem to have brown patch is where I placed my sprinklers. Could this be something other than brown patch?
I treated my lawn over 7 days ago with the procedure in this video. I am now ready to apply my Milorganite. The instructions in the video state to apply 1/2 - 3/4 lbs/1000 sq. ft. I'm not sure what to set my Scotts Speedy Green 2000 rotary spreader on. Can you please tell me what setting I need to put my spreader on?
What causes the drought looking spots to keep reappearing in the same spots year after year. I notice it happening in the same key location in my all of my neighbors yards as well
Hey lawn care nut
I’m sure you’ve done a video but I don’t know how to find which lawn I have, I’m sure it’s just the basic lawn but then again that could be any thing in your area. I have dead patches (my temp goes from 110 max during summer and 65 at night during summer. This is when I have most trouble) that i think are just do to the heat. Also in a little bit of a drought here so Im imagining that’s apart of the problem but is there any thing you recommend or ways to help. I do a big box store fertilizer after winter because with out it the whole lawn dies. Anything would help. Also keep up the great videos idk why I like watching you work on lawns but then again idk why I like working on my lawn. Total side note I’ve debated just letting it die put up a small fence and growing some food in my front yard just because my lawn looks nasty with the dead patch’s.) one patch gets walked on constantly and it is a-little dead but nowhere near the super dead parts so somethings going on, is it a fungus you mentioned or the heat minus lots of watering. Also should I water right before the sun comes up after the sun goes down. Also don’t expect you to get back to me any time soon but some info on next year form the best would be much appreciated. Keep up the videos my roommate had a dog and the tips on keeping there piss spots down worked so I know you are the real deal. Keep up the good work and thank you in advance if you have any ideas.
Eddie
Sling Chems was your college nickname!
You say preventative in February but can I treat vs prevent in February? I’m going to lay down seed and top soil to help bring back my lawn??? I live in Southern California and have fescue.
I was looking for st Augustine grass specific
I'm having this issue with my 1yr old Zoysia.
Amen! The stache is gone.
gone forever ha ha!
Can you get this Disease in new establish sod?
My bet is some lawns have brown patch while others don't because they're watering at night.
I planted zoysia seed last year.(Crestview, Northwest florida) This year it filled in nice and looked great but the in early-mid july i got spots that showed up. If i lightly brush them with my hand the grass comes right up. As if there are no roots there. Dose this sound like brown patch or do i have another issue all together.
No one just gets sick! There's always a reason.
And you know this how>>
Not true I know a woman who has had breast cancer twice and two brain tumors and she eat super healthy and is a professional trainer. Some times people just get sick just like lawns.
80percent is heretity
I have plenty of methyl parabens which is a potent fungicide/bactericide used as a preservative in personal care products. Wondering if a 1% application (that's 3x what we use in a face cream) would be effective. And it is cheap. And I have trichoderma harzianum here, a fungus that kills other fungi. Have you any info if it works on brown patch?
I know nothing about grass other than cutting and edging my lawn
After the winter season my grass never returned back to normal looking green and plush. Since the drought my grass have spots of dead/ brown patches . What should I do for my St.Augustine grass to come back?
How do I fix the massive white spot in my back yard? It seems to have covered everything.
Can I also use Scott’s weed and feed the same week?
After this treatment when can I fertilize and seed?
Is it ok to spot treat areas with the Disease X as well? I ask because I have 42,000 sq ft...so it gets REAL expensive trying to treat my lawn with fungicides. And I also dont want to spread that much chems if I dont have to. Now with curative rate its not a big deal and I do this just to try and stay on top of it. I have St Aug in panhandle of FL.
I live in Raleigh, North Carolina and have had a great green fescue lawn. Now I’m getting brown patches that look like hay. What can I do to get it green again?
