Can solo women go to croatia and visit? Is that a good idea?
Yes, I sound ignorant but I'm curious.
In Croatia, I am most pleased with the three words question: častim, što piješ?
:D
Lol bravo
Kako se zoves

I am learning Croatian because my best friend is Croatian, and we work alongside each other (he has a recording studio here in Long Island City, NY and I am his assistant). It's important that I know the language because many of our friends and associates are Croatian.
I was self taught Croatian when I was about 12. I am 62 now. I wanted to learn because my grandmother only spoke Croatian and my mother spoke Croatianlish- I found it actually pretty easy and the fact that there are NO silent letters makes it easy to learn - spell and pronounce. I went in 1976 and we plan as a family to go back in the next year or maybe 2023. Hvala vam.
I want to learn because I want to get back to my roots. My great grandparents came to Ellis island from Croatia, and my mom is half. I'm only a quarter Croatian but i really want to learn someday
@@erzascarlet03 my grandfather fled the war to AUS and now im 18 tryna learn to get back to my roots aswell, i know a couple words, especially swear words cause of my dad but hope learning goes well for u
You should come to Croatia, is my first time here and is so beautiful, I would recommend you to stay at villages like Mlini Srebeno they are near Dubrovnik. It is really like paradise. I happen to find a beautiful house whose owners live there and rent rooms with ocean views. Or a room in the back for more privacy with an amazing view as well. It is calles Villa Nina.
i know croatian bcs ilive in croatia
Hungarian here, I find it also refreshing to learn because of it’s very literal like my language, no silent letters
Oh, I didn't expect that as Ukrainian I will understand Croatian language 😮 Thanks for such good video!
Is truly hard to believe that she does not originate in Croatia she speak so well pronounce it perfectly and at the perfect cadence
Croatian is very similar to Czech:) I understand almost everything. But željeznički kolodvor is legit the best croatian word ever :DDDDD
Funny fact: both phrases, željeznica (rail road) and kolodvor (main station) were coined by Bogoslav (Bohuslav) Šulek, born in Slovakia, in the 19th c.
As a Ukrainian I understood most of this words
If you say "vlak" (train), you can avoid "željeznički kolodvor"
I am Russian and it was easy for me too.
@@Uthael_KileaneaI think that Train Station in Croatian (In the INSTRUMENTAL Case) is "VOZU STANICA" ? (Spoken from a 52 year Croatian language DABLER) (¿?¿?¿) 😢
Svaka čast ovoj ženi, naš jezik nije lagan, naglasak joj je super.
Anyone else want to be friends with sarah and Ivan? Cause I do 😂
Hello from another expat, living in Graz, visiting Croatia for a few weeks!
I love when I find a great video like this one, so thank you for creating this content!
I think it’s important to learn the basics rather than expect people to speak my mother tongue. I’ve noticed people appreciate the effort and are more willing to help!
If you guys ever make it to Graz and want to share a cup of coffee, we would love to show you around!
Elise and Chris
Sarah's Croatian is better than the language of some Croatians living in Canada. Congratulations Sarah, kapa do poda!
Hvala!
Both of you are so cute. I am a Vietnamese expat living Split in Croatia with my husband. When i find how to study Hrvatska i found out your chanel. It is good and useful for me. I really like your family so much. If your family have a chance to visit Split, we will invite you to drink cup of coffee here.
Thank you!! We were actually just in Split last week! I'm sure we'll be back again soon :)
Svaka čast ! Objasnite našim mladima koji bježe iz zemlje kako se ovdje IPAK može lijepo živjeti !

Thanks so much Taughnee! 😊 Where are you in Croatia?

The time of day made me laugh. In Australia we say good morning until until 12pm. But in Croatia, I think it's only used when you wake up. If you say Good Morning at 10 or 11am in Croatia, the locals look at you as if you are lazy and sleep all day 🤣
This is because 10am to 12 am is before-midday, and after 12 am is after-midday. Morning is up to 9 or latest 10 am. Its same in Germany.
yes
What an adorable couple!
This was amazing! Thank you both!
Hoping to impress my grandmother with new words from Zagreb after she has been living in Australia for 60 years! :D
Thanks you very helpful. Planning the trip to Croatia and I decided to learn few frases. I am a native Ukrainian speaker and fluent in Russian and Polish and of course English. I find your videos very helpful. It easy for me to say the words I just need to learn some. Croatian has resemblance from all Ukrainian/Russian/Polish! Thanks for the videos.
How I wish I could explore East europe , it's really my dream , even I live in west and went to its neighbouring . The east gives me this kind of feeling that somewhat in my dream . I feel like I am reincarnated and lived in east before. Ahaha that kind of feeling 😅. I have a Romanian colleague bdw she is kind and nice and wants to cook definitely the food in east has lot to offer than the west i think. The scenic mountain ,hills and castle in east are truly enchanted and beautiful i used to google places and watches vlog. Even though i never been there . But someday i will! Greetings to all the east European people!
Croatian expat living in Denmark here!
Been trying to learn danish for the past 8 months or so and it's always nice to see someone learning your native language :)
Samo jako Saro!
I listen to this every morning.
Thank you for this adorable, yet practical video!
You guys are adorable! So looking forward to our upcoming trip to Croatia! I hope to out in practice a couple of these words! Hvala Gracias!!!
Thank you for the great video. My Croatian Grandmother lived with me. I recognize many of those phases. I am going to Zagreb and Rijeka this weekend. I will be with family. I am going to try these phases. Hopefully I will impress my Family.
thank you so much. My husband is Canadian, we live in New York and I am Montenegrin, so these videos are a delight. My kids will be watching too
Thank you for having this video I am learning Croatian as I am Croatian and it is connecting me to my roots!
You two really are so cute. The way you mimic your husbands tone is too cute haha. Great work! New subscriber from the US
This was so helpful, thank you! We have just arrived in Croatia and will be spending a couple of months here. Wwill be watching this many times until we master it! We really enjoyed watching you both as well, you are both adorable! Hvala!
After tomorrow,I and Beny -my husband, and our 2 yrs old dautghter Gloria, will go to Croatia, our first trip there. Thank you, cute couple!
Thank you for sharing this video. It's nice to hear a native speak. I am trying to learn from books and, while it is usually correct, it's not always like natives talk I have the impression. I also appreciate the fact that you didn't edit the part where you struggle. We all do at some point, it's part of the process. Good luck!
We really enjoyed this video and listened a few times. We are now in Zagreb for 4 weeks and are trying to learn a few new words and phrases each day.
Thank you, this is so helpful! Useful phrases and no long pauses.
I love that you seem like you are also pretty good friends to each other. Perfect 🙏
What a great lesson! Thank you so much! Your sense of humor is great too!...
I am so happy I found this and your channel! I am coming to Croatia, Slovenia and maybe a couple other bordering countries for my first European trip. Planning on the month of September. Hvala!
Have fun!
OMG...just love your blog. After spending a couple of weeks in Zagreb, all that I have forgotten has come back. When Croatian people speak they smile with every word or phrase. That is the difference in conversation I noticed from Canadians.
Hvala xoxo
If you meet Croatian people they will likely speak to you in dialect, but don't be afraid. If they find out that you're still learning they'll try to speak closer to the standard language. When I speak to foreigners living in Croatia I have to make conscious effort not to slip back into Zagreb vernacular.
For example, at 3:20, people in Zagreb tend to use "Kaj?" instead of "Što?" for "What?", but pronouncing three letters is a bit much to us rushing urban folk so it can sometimes come out as something more like "Ke?" or "Kæ?" Also, some words for common house items are replaced with German loanwords.
A lot of people don't speak the standard language outside of (very) formal situations, some might not even be that familiar with the standard language but everyone understands it. This is because the standard language doesn't really correspond to the speech of any major region in Croatia (neither is it based on Zagreb vernacular).
As a side note, at 7:30, while this is a common way to speak, it is strictly considered incorrect. The correct way to ask is "Imate li jelovnik?" Using "Da li" to ask questions is not considered correct in the standard language.
i was taught Croatian and i know that there are 3 ways to form questions, as per official language books: a) Da li... ? b) Verb+ li ? c) Je li ... ?
As a Ukrainian I understood most of this words.
I'd like to ask if there a big difference between Croatian and Serbian languages?
@@Mike-td2uw No, it's the same language with some different vocabulary words.
Very cute! Big hug to you from Slovakia! 🤗😎😊
Thanks Daniel! Hugs from Zagreb! :)
