I love Kirkwood. It's my favorite of the 3 Epic Pass resorts. When conditions are good, they are incredible. But when the wind comes in, things can get bleak fast.
It’s a sweet resort with really awesome terrain, definitely our fave of the Epic resorts around Tahoe too. Thankfully we didn’t deal with wind when we were there. Hope you get to enjoy the powder piling up this week there!
Another resort that is close to Kirkwood is Bear Valley Ski Resort which is just south of Kirkwood
Very interesting, hadn’t heard of that ski resort before. We’ll have to check it out.

This channel is AWESOME!! I'm glad I found this channel.. I miss snowboarding in the west coast. I live in the south and carolina resorts are ok meh.. I guess I'm just spoiled cus ive been to kirk, mammoth, steamboat, and a few others.. Can't wait to be able to snowboard travel.. It will happen soon.. 😎.. That's all I want to do.. Moving to Kirkwood next month and this was pretty helpful for what they have. Next time can you try to give more detailed info on the parks if possible, theres not much info on their page and for small resorts like these that can be make or break
We will keep that in mind for future reviews. Vail resorts seems to be investing less into their parks each year but hopefully they keep making them. Sometimes we visit early season and parks are not built yet so we try to capture what we can.
The parks at Kirkwood are small compared to Northstar and Heavenly. They have a beginners, med and med large park. The med large park is closed half the time for some reason. No half pipe.
I am currently considering Ikon pass or Epic pass. What you think the best ski resort in Lake Tahoe? Thanks for sharing!
We liked SVAM (palisades Tahoe) the best when we were there.
i enjoyed it the one time i was there.. but it was in the middle of a snowstorm and the snow was accumulating on my goggles so i couldn't see had to quit after only two hrs.. any tips on how to work this problem..??
We were having similar problems this year with our goggles. The snow would accumulate on the top of the goggle then melt down onto the lens, then freeze. Along with the fogging from wearing a mask, not so great. Tried anti-fog spray but that didn’t work for long. Tried a helmet with a lip/bill which helped keep some snow off the top of the goggle. Never really found a solution so had to stop every half hour to clean off the lens but was enjoying the free refills on the slopes.
I went to Sierra last year to start snowboarding, but now it’s closed. Is it good for beginners?
There was decent beginner terrain at Kirkwood. About 20% is beginner and 30% intermediate.
