- On July 8th, Martin was called out to a public city park in Cedar City. He went expecting to find Kestrel Falcons that sometimes nest there. However, on arrival, he found a young Cooper's Hawk, also known as "the hawk everyone loves to hate". The Cooper's Hawk is a small and aggressive hawk. They hunt mostly small birds.
This young hawk had left the nest, which is normal, but unfortunately, all around the nest was a busy city park full of people and dogs and all kind of threats to this young bird. Because of this, Martin took the young hawk back to the rescue center.
On July 13th, Martin was called out to the park again. This time for a second Cooper's Hawk from the same nest. Both birds were kept in a chamber together.
On July 26th, when both hawks were old enough and feeding themselves, Martin released them safely out of town in an environment well suited for the young hawks. These hawks will have the same chances as any others despite being separated from their parents. They live mostly as solitary hunters until they are old enough to mate.

Martin Tyner
Martin Tyner, founder of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah, is a federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator, educator, propagator, and master falconer with over 50 years of experience.
Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.

A few months ago I called Mr Tyner to pick up a seagull with a broken wing. Upon arrival mr. Tyler told me it was hit by a car. I'm so glad he takes care of animals in need of help what a great guy
For a bird that people love to hate it was so nice to see the people call you out to help the little one. It’s so nice to see members of the public being like that.
Love that people care but let's get the bird out of that situation. Everyone wants to ask a hundred questions. What patients and dedication!
I love when he calls them sweetie.
Watching you catch that second little guy had me laughing out loud here at work. Took me a moment to realize why you started running. Cute little guys, and you're just the right person to care for them.
Two beautiful hawks, but that first one is just adorable.
"These are the hawks everyone loves to hate....they eat sparrows, robins, *starlings*"
So awesome they donated and I must say Martin is incredibly sweet and gentle to all his rescues
What a gorgeous pair of birds. Thank you for saving them.
Birds of prey are so majestic!! 🦅🦉
Almost always when Martin rescues wildlife such as eagles, owls and hawks, inevitably they seem to calm right down when he leans then against his chest. They surely can hear Martin's heartbeat, must be calming. God bless you guys for all you do for these beautiful creatures! ❤⚘🦉🦅
Stunning birds, they may be aggressive, but they deserve to live a natural life.
It's fascinating how fast Martin walks and chases those birds.

Hi again MARTIN &SUSAN
Aww, I kinda felt for the first one. He was quite concerned, looked like he was kinda thinking "OMG, what is going to happen to me now. Mommeeee!" But he relaxed slightly when he realized he was not eaten right away but carried away out of the park. Such cuties, indeed!
