Second Red-tailed Hawk Chick Hatches! Big Red Feeds Siblings At

- Say hello to K2! The Cornell Hawks' second egg started pipping yesterday, and a second hatchling, named "K2," was first spotted out of the egg for the first time at 11:47 PM on May 3. One egg remains!
You may be asking, "What's with the names?" In 2012, hawk fans called the chicks C1, C2, and C3, “C” after Cornell. In 2013 the chicks were called D1, D2 and D3. In 2014 the chicks were called E1, E2, and E3. This naming convention has continued to be applied to each successful brood throughout the years. The 2021 chicks are the "K" group!

A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since at least the 2012, making use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012 and 2015, they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus.

I wonder why she's primarily feeding the chick in the front and only offering an occasional bite to the one in the back.
I think the one in back is the new hatch and probably not very hungry yet. Big Red is a good, experienced mom and will do everything to get them strong and big. :) She got that one lots after it got its head more under control (starting around 8:00).
Mother hawk is excellent at giving them little chick-digestible bits. Is the one on the back, hidden by Mom’s body, getting anything?
on the other hand the mother had teach a lesson to the chicks that the have to fight or aggresive move to get food from their mother in this tough world ahead of them
Que cruel siempre queda uno sin comer
顶了太可爱。👍🐣🐣
Enggel shoot, minimalis...
Now that is what I call red meat 🥩!
any way to tell what type of bird is being fed to the chicks? (start to see a foot and a few feathers around 10:30)
