DUOS: Crown and CoreJJ (2019)

  • Crown and CoreJJ are two of the most successful players in the world. As LCK teammates in 2016 and 2017, the duo led Samsung Galaxy to back-to-back World Championship Finals, culminating in a decisive finals sweep of defending champions SK Telecom T1. But for Crown, the celebration was short-lived. Many fans discounted his role in winning the title, a fact that weighed on him heavily throughout his disappointing 2018 season and the subsequent break up of the team. Now on opposing LCS teams in OpTic Gaming and Team Liquid, Crown and CoreJJ look to lead their new teams to success -- and to redefine how they measure it for themselves.

I don't know if anyone's ever mentioned it, but that shot of Crown at 7:50 is really good. His slump back and sigh is really expressive. I've seen that clip in almost every montage of the 2018 championship.

This was a really well done video. Definitely one of my favorites that Riot has put out. There's something deeply personal and, in a way, intimate about this. Two former teammates and friends, moving to a completely different region and being on different teams. It was really cool to see them sit down and talk, and kind of reminisce about the past. Good stuff. Hope to see more like this in the future.

Since i learned his story at 2017 finals, I started following Crown, and now i'm cheering for Otpic - just to see his succeed. He is young, talanted, already World Champion, and yet had some dark times - it saddens me alot...
Dont rely on others to tell you your worth! believe in yourself, tell yourself the truth - you are great, World champion! Have fun and find your happiness!

This is a really amazing video with high-quality production. Need more of those.
But really how sad it must be to won Worlds and still feel like it wasn't enough. It makes me think about how demanding the community really is. When enough is enough? When we will be truly satisfied with their performances? How much they need to archive to get the respect and recognition they deserve. Also, Faker legacy is being questioned recently because he didn't win anything for the past year and he has 3 World Championships(!) so how much someone like Crown or CoreJJ has to prove themselves... I'm happy Crown stop chasing that goal and focused on his own happiness instead.

I can relate to Crown heavily, not because I won a world championship or anything, but the whole idea of struggling to find something worthwhile in my life. Setting low goals can really have you feeling empty. After I graduated college I went into a bout of depression because that was a goal I set as a wee lad. After finally getting my degree, I had a long pause in life simply asking myself "what's next?" Life is very interesting to say the least. Wishing the best for Crown and anyone out there feeling lost and seeking happiness.

I find this piece of video produced by Riot very entertaining. You can find a piece of yourself with both pro's career struggles in self identity. I know that in recent years, as Travis Gafford have pointed out, that maybe the content produced by Riot hasn't done enough to hype up the players for LCS. I think this video is a good start as to "hype" up the players since a viewer like me can sympathize and get behind the struggles that these players face in finding happiness. Hope to see more videos like these and I want to know in the future if that happiness will be enough for CoreJJ and Crown! :)

    • @echo5440
