- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- We resume the Fleet Management Series this week, talking about hybridization of fleets and how to assemble the ever useful Courier Fleet. You might think again about setting up your fleet after this so stay tuned. July's "winners" are also included.
Title Theme: Ross Bugden, Last Dawn.
• ♩♫ Epic and Emotional ...
The thing I think this video overlooks is the different styles of courier work. Where box running is concerned we can break it up into three categories: Local (planet and its moons), interplanetary, and interstellar. Local courier work will be a huge facet of couriering I think, and in addition to your mentions of the Avenger Titan, 300 series and Reliant, I'll throw in the C8X Pisces Expedition and 100 series as additional suggestions. My favourite is still the C8X Pisces Expedition for its ease of parking 'on the stairs' and getting in and out of places, and its huge fuel tank and economic running make it viable for some interplanetary courier contracts as well.
For interplanetary courier work, I thought your fleet suggestions were more consistent with this class of box running. The freelancers, Star Runner, and Defender are all suitable, although I think the viability of the Constellation is questionable. By this point even the Freelancers and Star Runners will be double dipping with other cargo to make it work and the Constellation will be edging into an area of being a bit too big and sluggish to bother with boxes. And it might not be ideal for interstellar courier contracts either.
Interstellar is where things get really interesting. Currently most of us probably think of it in terms of a solo operator picking something up from a moon, heading to a jump point, and making their way to another remote drop off point in the next system, preferably with multiple contracts active concurrently. But you touched on something with mentions of the Carrack and missed something there maybe not quite so obvious: the Kraken. Picture this: About eight assorted small-to-medium ships pick up numerous boxes in one system, converge on a Kraken (their mobile depot), jump to the next system, fan out, drop off, pick up, converge, repeat. The Kraken and Kraken Privateer are carrier and commodity cargo hybrids, with the design of the ship itself offering the potential to operate as a mobile base for just about anything a small ship is able to do. And we may see other civilian carrier ships that could operate like this further down the track as well.
Caveat: This large/capital carrier idea is definitely not suitable to anything time critical, but for an interstellar snail mail postal service, I can see the possibility of it working if CIG implements suitable long range delivery contracts. Otherwise interstellar couriering might not be much of a thing at all.
Recently discovered your channel after I had bought a 125a for myself when it first came out and loved your viewpoint on the future ships and their utility. Keep up the great work!
I love the practical usage thinking in your videos. Great work.
One good thing about being late for the party is that I get to take advantage of all this good info. Really enjoying these series, thank you again.
Love this series
no mention to my favorite ship Pisces has range speed agility nimble fits grid lots of space
I remember when the 315p ladder was broken people were saying you were never supposed to be able to carry boxes up ladders. But I’ve never seen a statement from CIG about it. If that IS the intent, ships with stairs, ramps, or cargo grids that lower to the ground will have more utility. I loved my Pisces but melted it because I was only using it for box missions and I want ships purchased with real money to have more than one use in-game.
The Anval C8 Pisces work well for me (standalone without the Carrack), if the chair was a non swivel it would be perfect, just to get in that bit faster. A nice big window in the cockpit would help but does not bother me. I do 16 box missions in one go with this little ship. Make sure all the delivery destinations is a landing pad on New Babbage. The Reliant range looks good to.
Yes, I would not mind being a ferry for a smaller ship.
I agree if your only in game for deliveries or taxi services the ANVIL C8X Pisces or the Expedition edition are great for this you will need to refuel more often though. here are some specs

I was wondering about the C8, thanks for sharing. I use a Titan for deliveries, and only thing I don't dig is the limited QT range. I'll have to compare the two.
@@chrisa1160 Just be aware these are not the stock specs i did have to upgrade it and this was the best i could do for the little C8X in the PU. Check out my upgraded Titan specs in my other comment as well.
One of the great things about the Pisces is that if you use balisitcs you can outfit it with stealth components and have no power issues. With the new stealth mechanics at SCM the IR & EM signature is around 1k each which keeps your detection range around .5 to 1 km on S1 radars. In and out.
I always use the Atlas for a size 1 QT drive, it's not fast but it's very fuel efficient (77Mkm with a Titan)
I always use a Spectre. Anyway jump shorter than Olisar to HUR L2 and it's actually faster than the VK00. I just don't bother with size 1 if I'm going long trips between planets
Thanks for another great video.
The new 100 series are great for this now. Especially on the 135c.
Anyone looking for a ship to fill this role. This ship checks all the boxes and there are no downsides.
Great video! One thing I would add though is whenever mentioning the up and down sides of ships, I think it is important to mention that Drake ships don't get ejection seats / escape pods. Newer players may be unaware of this and its effect with the last mentioned plans in 'Death of a Spaceman'.
As for what fleet to cover next, maybe an introspection on the original concept of Star Citizen as A Man and his Ship, to A Man and his Fleet. That it's become for many of us.
I'd also like to see your take on and escort and protection fleet
like ure series . will binch watch them when your done with it
As a Carrack owner, I probably would not ferry someone around, if be too busy using it for cargo. I'd hire someone to be my "remote control" on the hangar door, so I could use the pisces as my courier runabout.
I'm glad you started off with the Defender. As it is one of my favorites for box missions. With that fuel tank. It can handle the VK00 (but the Spectre is faster for any distance up to Olisar to HUR L2)
HOWEVER, size 2s, such as the crossfield and XL1. are SOOOO much faster than any size 1. Hence the Vanguard becomes my courier of choice.
I can't speak for 3.10, but the Pisces has been so fast in atmosphere and quick to land. And cheap. You can't go wrong with it if you are sticking with under $100.
And the 350R does the job as well, if you don't mind spending almost the price of 3 pisces. But not go size 2.
I like the Defender for package runs. With that huge fuel tank you can use a Spectre or VK-00 (which really only has an advantage on long jumps). And, once it's upgraded on all components, it's fast enough and can handle itself in a fight.
But the Vanguard is king. A good size 2 drive is much faster than the best size 1 drive. So if you are going between planets, it's THE ship to have
I love these videos great for new and old players alike. And yes I would move someone around if they asked :)
It's been a while since I've played, but when I did I liked to use the Defender and DUR for courier missions. DUR had the bonus of occasionally doing cargo along the way.
Lucky me :) I really appreciate going in the draw. As one who does a lot of reading I never knew boxes could brake. I was thinking 315p for some fun before I CCU up from it for delivery. I do have a Polaris and would ferry people though current talk is fuel will be expensive. Also from a return $ of view boxes and cargo seems poor for two people compared to what a second person opens up. As.with 2 or more people a lot of things become more fun. If its true and connies are getting a rework then the cheaper Taurus could be good 200 SCU spare turret for friend and quick. Depending onaAtmosphere flight. I would like to see a list of 310 ships that may have moved up in their area with regards flight now.
We also have some rumored ship sales coming with 310 and with November ahead it could be good to explain CCU's chains to help people get a deal. Example You want to get a mole then get a CCU from a CAT to a Mole locks in your 315 price. Then add in a Defender to MSR for $5 and a DUR to a Taurus and some cheap LTI token and wait. Once you have your LTI token and ships are released you can pocket the savings. In the example worst case CIG kills CCU so you need to use your LTI melt the rest and guess what spend what you would have done. Best case saves you some money. I think a lot of people dont understand CCU properly.
Can confirm, as an owner of one of the big special ships and a picies, yes I’m down for an adventure
My personal courier fleet consists of the Aurora MR (maybe upgrade to LN/ cargo version when Cargo Refactor comes into play), CO Nomad, and the Argo Personal Carrier. : )
Pisces C8-X is only choice (in alpha. Once range become more limiting there might be better choices). Tiny foot print, exiting is fast, handles well, insane space for boxes (can fit 90 by my math but it would be stupid lol).
It also has a larger QF tank, and unlike the 135 series, all the cargo is inside so you don't have to walk around and toggle another a door/lift.
I think a 315p would be a great courier if you swap the qt drive with an atlas for decent speed and still decent range
As a Carrack owner. If someone did ask and they seemed like alright people I'd definitely take them around in 3.10. I'd likely charge them 400 credits per stop however which may or may not be a good option for them.
As a Kraken Privateer owner. I'd be really interested to see what fleet you'd build around this ship. Actaully, a series where you build a small fleet around each of the capital class vessels would be interesting to me.
The Kraken Privateer is my end game of sorts. So the rest of my fleet is based around building up to or aiding in some way the operation of that ship.
Currently I have the Pisces for things like deliveries, minor resupplies, and potential ferrying of players or act as a means of escape when I am using the Kraken.
I own the C2 and Carrack. Both of these I am intending to be more of the daily driver but also double as additional storage of goods and resupply ships for my Kraken.
The Vulcan and Vulture both medium sized ships that I intend to carry with me on the Krakens large deck. When I am setting up shop I will move these to either the docking bays or just have them in very close EVA range or more likely having some AI crew occupy a tight formation around the Kraken in them. In the event we get attacked the vulture can clean up the mess and the Vulcan can repair and resupply both the Kraken and any ship that operates in defense of the Kraken without taking from the supplies of the Kraken itself while it is stocked.
Additionally, the 890J... This ship I am not exactly sure how to build a fleet around it. For me. Its more of a step away. When the Kraken and all of its component gameplay elements are just not what I am feeling for the session. This ship I think will entirely subsist on the missions that the owners have access to because they own this ship. Specifically I am meaning the VIP missions for the owners of the various fancier crafts. I'd definitely like to know what you think a good pairing would be for this one. I am thinking the 100I or 2 of them if they'll fit in the hangar. But I am not sure.
For me the ideal fleet I am slowly building is like this: Pisces for box missions as start. Then depends on my liking per day either Taurus and C2 for cargo/ship transport. Next level is a BMM and Hull D. Last level is the Orion. A Mustang Omega for racing/rare ship and a Sentinel for Org support/help and solo combat for fun. Maybe I will get enough referral to get the Gladius to make it a sweet red pirate Gladius to match the Omega and racing Cyclone.
Piracy fleet and Security Escort fleet as opposites. I would very much like to hear about those.
Great video, I'm a Carrack owner and welcome anyone looking for a pilot , am also always happy for someone to fly and go along for the company - generally swap out the Cats Quantum for the added speed (with still acceptable consumption) - I have the Terrapin part of the Exploration pack and have the CCU to a Mercury Star Runner ready to go! - With the latest flight model in 3..10 I am thinking about changing the Cat for the Herc, modules for the Cat seem forever away, and the Herc should be much faster in atmos
I use the Titan personally for these kind of things, though I suspect that the 300i would be better suited thanks to the larger fuel tank. I used to choose the freelancer in the beginning when I only had the Mustang and personally I never found it to be much of a problem when it comes to the visibility. The slower speed and hassle to land as efficiently as possible definitely drains on your soul, though!
I always just assumed that the game was bugged when it didn't accept my packages, never knew that it was because it wasn't placed on the cargo fields, maaaan that would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. Thanks for the info, now I know at least. Really hope the game will get better at actually sharing this kind of information. Especially the mission critical ones.
Was thinking of playing with a 315i for boxes do you use the 300i series?
@@bezdownunder5481 Nope. As mentioned I favour the Avenger Titan.
@@Soulliquor Cool just wondering as may try it for a bit as I have a cheap CCU not doing anything for (AGES Probably)
@@bezdownunder5481 Well, to my knowledge it *should* work just fine, but since that's second hand knowledge, you should take it with a grain of salt.
Good topic for a video.
Love the content
Best part of IAE for me was using the 100 series for the Gundo box missions with its EVA animation. No more falling down! Tried the same thing in a Black and fell so hard it broke both my legs and then threw me all the way through the floor back into space for good measure.
Yea, I forgot about the EVA issue after using mine for so long - getting back on that MSR broke my legs and chest and I was like "oh yea, that's an issue..."
It might just be personally, but I want a fleet best suited for supporting ground and FPS gameplay. Like boarding and securing a derelect space station via drop ships. Or using a large ship like a Carrack or C2 or Connie as a base of operation while I explore caves and pick up FPS mineables maybe hunt some big game and dangerous predators on the planets surface. I might even bring a Greycat Roc along to expedite the process. Hang out on planets for days at a time harvesting whatever I can find until I fill my cargo bay is full. Then haul it away to sell of use to craft cool stuff
Fuel up always between planets is good thing
since there are some leaks, maybe do bounty hunting next?
Great conent thanks. I used my Cutlass red for courier mission. Good enough pilot view, better scm speed and max speed than the black. Low key, not expensive, long-range, price is acceptable. But have to say the r QT speed is not the best so the solution is to upgrade to a faster QT drive.
for the next fleet video ,i would be interested in youre opinion ,a small group/org 5-6 ppl ,interestd in all kind of freelancing work ,from combat to industry
Nice video. Thinking out of the box....huh...huh
I'm really interested in buying a mercury star runner but the little bit of self control I have left is telling me no
I go to my c8x pisces expedition for boxes.
But ive also ferried people around in the carrack. Space bus makes no money, but its fun.
I keep forgetting about my defenders capabilities to stow boxes. Gives me another reason to fly it too.
My preference is the 325a with a foxfire qt for range
It would be cool if there was a dedicated "courier ship." Something with a specialized delivery drone, so you don't even have to leave the pilot seat to drop off a package.
On the one side, I think the 100's are the closest you'll see to that - I admit it does make me wonder how in the future we're still using the post office box system of package delivery. Amazon is working on drones today - so I guess in 2950 that was a failed concept?
Thanks Leadnap
The reliant Tana has been a great package runner/investigation ship for me. I have found the 3.9 pros to be; low hydrogen fuel consumption, VTOL mode, 1 SCU cargo grid, full amenities, copilot, capable of defending itself. In 3.10 the VTOL, aerodynamics and copilot/turret gunnery will make this ship's value go up even more.
The cons are the stock components suuuuuck, from top to bottom. This is not necessarily a bad thing though. The process of grinding deliveries, investigations and bounties to upgrade a component or two at a time was incredibly satisfying. There was a night and day difference once that ship was fully upgraded that I never saw in a Titan or Pisces.
Anyone who has not tried this ugly duckling since it was reworked needs to give it a shot.
I've been working on and plan on a fleet made to be as self sufficient and versatile as possible. One I can get away with soloing, if a stretch. I got Vulcan and Crucible to fix up what I need. Vulture, Dur, and SRV to live off the verse. Any other additions would have to replace what I have but better. Or add self sufficiency and versatility to my fleet as a whole. If it's worth it I'll drop money. If not buy in the game. (as prospector looks to be)
Gonna be hard to justify more than one more ship for me until a lot more is hashed out and for sure. For me it's important to be able to play the game well if I'm not playing with others. As one can't always plan on people being there for one another.
Are you considering just stock QT drives on these ships? Just curious.
What about the vulture?
Imagine a rescue mission on a wreck site. Find the black box, dead bodies, cargo boxes with water melon inside or some....stuff, and then... just salvage the derelict!
Thats a hybrid career!
I'm one of those "crew in other folks' big ships" types. My main ships are the DUR, Cutty, Sabre and Super Hornet. I'm surprised you waved off the DUR, in favor of a Connie. DUR has a small-ish footprint, great range, decent cargo for courier + extras. Cockpit view not as big an issue if you fly 3rd person, habitually. jus thoughts.
I hope CIG will give at least 1 SCU grid to all ships because is weird that ships like vanguard can't transport a package safely :)
my mans keeps forgetting about the 100i series... psh... it ticks all the boxes man
would i ferry people in my carrak? yes if im in the pu which isnt often right now
Great ideas as usual. Just an idea maybe its time for you to do a how to target and other new things video in your style. FL Dur, distance, speed, versatility. 2 ways out and quick. My FLs can take out small ships with no problem when you become a master drifter. My sentinel is my armored Uber.
I'm so torn. I want a kraken.
I want to be a hub on the edge near the wild west with a crew and an escort fighter or two.
But that's a huge commitment of time and energy that frankly my 7/7 life cant do.
And as awesome as a single ship adventure with the occasion tag along buddy I still feel the call of that kraken.
This is so cool maybe almost time for a update??
I definitely want little ships like the Avenger and Pisces but will just buy or rent them with uec, I feel like my cash is better dropped on getting the big ships of my fleet with LTI in case insurance becomes a restrictive running cost when(if) the game is released.
I will be abusing my Star Runner and Titan for these missions...specially the star runner :) I also have the Hoplite as a loaner for my Redeemer and I have to wonder how well the Redeemer is going to work for this since it supposedly has cargo space too!
I like logistics fleets
Still want the star ⭐️ runner 🏃♀️
I wish I had a pc so I can play this
hybrids are for those of us who cant afford a lot of ships if you have many you probably want more specialized ships
I have been using the Avenger Titan with the following specs, note the new longer range fuel efficient quantum drive. If any one knows of a better QT drive let me know.
