@@SWRural-fk2ub thanks. My Yellow lab, Echo, was put to sleep in January due to Kidney Failure. He was about 12 years old. Jenson is my black lab that I got in Feb and he tags along with most of the filming. Apart from the Drone, he chases it and wants to kill it 🤣
@@leswall3061 thanks. I think they will need to build a joining track between the WCML & the Hindley track as I don’t think there is one unless anyone else knows ?
It's a shame it's not continuing on to Southport. It would eliminate the need for diesel on the Southport to Stalybridge (Stalybridge now has wires due to the Transpennine Route Upgrade), and Oxford Road via Bolton services. Just diesel Headbolt Lane - Wallgate - Salford Crescent via Atherton. At least the 769s out of Southport will be able to run on 25kv from Handley in future, instead of Bolton.
@@neilcrawford8303 the 769 may be able to run on 25Kv from Ince I’m guessing. As another viewer mentioned, to run wires into Wallgate is a massive task which would involve lowering the trackbed as otherwise, they would have to demolish half of Wallgate and the shops. Massive task either way.
@@simonrobertrhodes - I'd be surprised if the 769's were allowed to do a power changeover anywhere that isn't at least double-tracked. Failing to do the switchover (I've been traveling through Bolton several times when the driver has had to "turn it off and turn it on again" to get a 769 to convert to an oil burner) risks blocking the line which AFAIK is why they do it at Bolton where traffic can be routed around via another platform. NB - UK Rail Forums folks suggest the newly all electric services (MCO & SYB & LDS) passing through Ince-Hindley corridor might terminate at WGN with WGW keeping Southport / HBL Diesel services all routed through Atherton. I guess there will be some more announcements about future timetables and how the ex-West Mids Class 323's will be deployed by Northern.
@neilcrawford8303 There's also the knock-on effect on the hourly stopping services for Moses Gate, Farnworth, etc that are currently served hourly by the Southport via Bolton train. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
@ianvaughan7066 Yes. I've chatted to a few staff, and the ones I've spoken to are pretty much in the dark as to what will happen with the routes in future. It would make sense to retain the SOP services via Bolton, as once they're beyond Wallgate they can run on 25kv to Oxford Road or Stalybridge. The Wallgate - Leeds and Headbolt Lane - Blackburn services are via Todmorden, which isn't wired up, so most of their route is diesel. Northern may well mix things up once the electrification is done. In the last few years Southport services have changed a few times. We had the Leeds services for a while, then Alderley Edge, now it's back to Oxford Road.
So what about the electric wires going into Wigan Wallgate station? I saw across from Wigan North Western Station, the wires just stop for no reason. Are they going to put the equipment in to run trains to Wallgate, or run trains to North Western? I cant find anything online about what there doing about it.
There's a "run off" (if that's what it's called) of wire towards Wallgate station as there is towards Atherton after Hindley. I think it's left as a spur to make it easier to connect up in the future if they ever do decide to electrify those stretches, but to get the electric lines to Wallgate and beyond they would have to rebuild the bridge which holds up the street and the shops above! So that's a solid "no" for now.
Very good video on the progress of this electrification project, Thank you.
Nice touch to show the dogs at the end!

Great videoing and information of progress, never know, one day when its done, might see a Pendolino on divert for some reason or other on the route
