New REH audiobook is coming soon! Just finishing recording this week 👍 it's a crusader story. If you can, please support the channel by sharing and liking the videos or in any other way you'd like 😊 it really helps build the channel and motivates me to make more audiobooks. Cheers!
Supposedly, "cyclopean" (in the sense of "colossal") comes from large blocks used in the construction of Bronze-Age Mycenaean strongholds which Iron-Age ancient Greeks considered so large that only cyclopes could have been strong enough to place them. The Iron-Age Greeks themselves used even larger blocks of masonry which an episode of Ancient Aliens claims are so large only aliens could have placed them. I can picture Giorgio A. Tsoukalos great-great-great-times-100 grandfather sitting in the agora, raising his hands, and declaring "cyclopes!" in response to every unexplained mystery.
Ugh, drew me in once again. Well read! Regular crabs are so timid, scuttling off the moment your shadow falls over them. Thank the gods the giant psychic crabs of this story are not the reality. I wonder if Howard got the idea after seeing fiddler crabs in the (by the?) Rio Grande? Maybe got pinched by a biggun while fishing for them, saw red and formulated this yarn, having a laugh the whole while, the sound of the typewriter keys echoing in his mind like clacking pincers 😅
Excellent suggestion. Alas, I've been prostrating myself begging for Black Canaan like some thrice damned priest of old Set groveling before his idol for some time.
Of course, another REH title that's off by only one word is The People of the Black Circle. But Queen of the Black Coast is more similar to this than that one is.
Give us more Robert E. Howard! Good reading, astute comments, good job!

Another Howard I didn't knew! Thank you, Connor!
I'd never heard of this story. It's great! Loved the analysis at the end.

Awesome.!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ REH was amazing! If only he had not taken his life. A true tragedy😢
Great story, Connor. I had never heard of this one before. Maybe you could read us Marchers of Valhalla one day?

"Crab People are easily startled but they'll soon be back, and in greater numbers"

Well spotted!
