It must have been 1965, it was certainly Christmas, when four of us (all hitchikers) happened into Vaduz and looked around for cheap accommodation. There was none, but we entered the cheapest looking, only to find ourselves in a huge stone-flagged hall where there stood two Black Forest grandfather clocks. Before we could beat a retreat, the meister came in and insisted we go to the bar. There we ordered "a glass of water and four straws" but soon a man in a Chef's hat wandered to our table and asked us if we were Beatles. He turned out to be the sausage maker to Crown Prince Franz-Josef II and insisted that we were his Christmas guests. He paid for a room, where we slept (4 of us) in a huge bed! The next morning he took us for breakfast in his sausage factory - a matter of sausage, rye bread and wine. Then he showed us round Vaduz and up to the castle where he knew the vintner. So there we sat under the castle. in the Prince's wine cellar, surrounded by utterly enormous barrels, drinking cup after cup of the Prince's wine. After that, he pointed out a hut where we hired 4 toboggans and spent the afternoon on the snowy slopes. This is a true story. One of the best Christmases ever!
