When I was 9, taking a short cut through the Ostfriedhof in Munich at dusk, gates to be closed & locked at 5pm, I was afraid but at the same time fascinate by my surroundings; Would have been truly impressive with an IPod and Satie's music. (I'm 75 and reminiscing)
This song is hypnotic Something about ERIK SATIE and how every piece seems to bring hidden emotions to the surface something sad yet happy and at peace
My dad died suddenly in 2004. This melody expressed the desolation of his loss, and yet was strangely comforting. Such is the power of this wonderful music. 😢😮
The magic here is that you "lighten" up this work, which can go from depressed to funeral in 2 nanoseconds. Satie teaches us that just playing a piano isn't enough. The tunes are so simple - almost deceptively so. This is where the performer shines in the interpretation.
There's something magical about you playing the Gnossienne pieces. You truly bring out the purpose for which they were composed. The music gives you a strange feeling, like taking a walk in a garden which is both beautiful & scary at the same time, like two sides of a garden where one side is lit up in sunshine & on the other side there's a darkness waiting to be explored. Thank you for letting us all imagine what this piece's existence resembles.
Nobody, as in nobody plays the Gnossienne compositions of Satie like Alessio Nanni. His interpretation is soulful and evokes a wonderful eeriness which just leaves me in awe! I have listened to many other pianist play this work and the majority at best give a very mechanical rendition. After listening to Nanni i am convinced that his rendition is exactly what Satie had in mind. Bravo Mr. Nanni! It is a joy listening to your work. Thank you.
This is great! I think, however, that Reinbert de Leeuw's performance will always be my favorite. That might be because I heard it first. I think if i had heard other performances first, de Leeuw's would seem too slow (almost a full minute longer than this video!) and somewhat out of time. Given that I heard it first, every other performance seems rushed and boxy. If you haven't heard de Leeuw, I'd be interested to hear what you think, because to me, he's the master of that wonderful eeriness that you described. Cheers!
To guess what Satie had in mind is a dangerous guess. :-) It is just not true that all other pianists are offering mechanical renditions. Some are, but a few are not and are outstanding.
Ahhhhh how I love this song, your fluidity, your tempo, your fabulous interpretation of Satie's music. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, all three versions of Gnossiennes. Other pianists play Satie well, but you play him perfectly, not too fast, not to slow. I could listen to these three songs for an extended period of time on repeat, because 3:12 isn't enough time. I use Gnossienne 3 on my alarm to wake up to, no jarring buzzer
Music and the notation of music has a singular effect on what is lazily called the human "soul",but is in reality utterly indescribable. Saties music has the effect of seeking out the empty, lost chambers of one's heart- it's simplicity is the undoing of all of us
Right at 2:00, coming from forte into piano: oh wow! I don’t even know how to describe the impression i get. It’s like the perfect empty echo to contrast the reality that ‘used to be’. I’m reminded of the phrase ‘You can never go home again’ when i hear that musical phrase. I really don’t know how to describe it, but it’s almost painful. What a wonderful performance, thank you.
Molto bella interpretazione! Complimenti!
The November Man and Olga Kurylenko sent me here. After burning out every piece of music I know, I needed something new. Never would have thought an action movie would do that for me.
A superb performance, giving the music an atmospheric quality of its own, which I like very much. Satie's music has to be played with one's own soul or it ends up a sad series of gloomy tones and notes, and nothing more ....
This was recommended by the riam as an example of how the piece should be played for its grade 6 students in list c. And honestly listening to this makes me excited to learn the piece for my exam
No need to tell you again that this Gnossienne n° 3 is a" musical gem" to me , I can listen to it on and on without ever being tired ! But Alessio, don't forget your promise to play Gnossienne N° 4 .. my third favorite , after N° 1 and 3 :)
Hi guys.
My new recording of the first Gymnopédie by Satie is online: ua-cam.com/video/0Ok-am7rP_k/v-deo.html
Hope you'll enjoy it.
Love, Alessio.
Congrats! Please make your music available on Tidal (the best streaming platform for high-def recordings)!
congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I do… Thank you!
@@De.France thank you for listening

Thank you so much for your comment. Satie is a master. And a mistery.
Well said, well said. 💓💓

The image you gave me is very evocative and powerful. Thank you for your beautiful comment 🌹
like in Fausts alpatraum? XD

Long live recorded versions of versions of Aldo Ciccolini !
I just discovered Nanni's chanel, i also really love the way he interprets this

Such a mysterious piece, sad- but a joy to listen to. Excellent work Alessio.
This takes me to a different place. Thank you.
Merci beaucoup Alessio!
Merci à toi
I like your expression of this, I can hear Erik through your hands

My hauntingly beautiful music. ❤ I always come back here, to listen you, again and again...
this performance is extraordinary. Gave me chills. Thank you
Your rendition is the best. Sounds creeping and mysterious as a gothic tale. Absolutely magical!
Bravo
The simple basses but with unexpected relation to the melody on right hand makes a mystical mood. Something like a meltend reality.
your playing is as beautiful as a feather flying calmly in a big field, thank you so much for the experience of listening to your performance
Beautifully sad. So much emotion in this playing too. Great!
+Viktoria Feher you are very kind! I appreciate it
I don't know why this piece of art is so motivational, it gives you a reason to continue in life as a human being. Thank you sir.
Watching the "november man" movie brought me here; I don't care much for it, but at least it made me listen to this beautiful composition.
¡¡Sublime e bellissima interpretazione!!

Bravo, the right speed in my opinion
Totally agree, so many people play it really slowly, this is perfect!!
Exactly.
I like more slowly version
Yesss!! Finally played at the right tempo & it still has such depth, perfect.

aaay a fellow tricker sent from the November man. pretty decent movie I thought
Hell ya! Where you based out of?
Also, for a general action movie, definitely a good one.

Yes! This is the version I was looking for.
Yes indeed best interpretation ever! Particularly the very confusing independence in character, accentuation and pace of the two hands..
Best. You're such a great pianist! Beautiful!
Thank you!
This music tugs on the veil.
Here again...😍
