They have the WRONG national insignia for that model of B-17. The G model first flew in August of 1943. By that time, the USA had adopted the Star AND BAR, insignia. Its possible that any aircraft before august 1943 would have the old insignia still on it, but anything NEW Made after August 1943 would certainly be delivered with the NEW insignia.
Thanks for the information. I didn't know that the national insignia changed. I feel sure that they will know that, as I think it was a conscious decision by them to retain the colour scheme that the aircraft was given when it was used to represent B-17F ' Memphis Belle' in the 1986 movie. 'Sally B' retains the overall scheme that it was given then with 'Memphis Belle' nose art on the starboard side and 'Sally B' nose art on the port side (the latter wasn't there for the movie and neither was the chequered inner starboard engine cowling. When the aircraft first arrived in the UK after purchase from the French Institut Geographic National (IGN) in 1975, it was given a several silver scheme representing an aircraft of the 457th Bomb Group, USAAF 8th Air Force, based at Glatton with 'stars and bars'. It subsequently changed scheme in 1981 for a UK TV Series called 'We'll meet again', before then changing for the 'Memphis Belle' movie and retaining that scheme since. I don't think that they presently have any plans to change the scheme as it is so well known in the UK and Europe, but next time I have the opportunity at a Duxford show I'll ask them about it.
Why the noise from these airplanes known as the blades? It would have been better if the B-17 was on a solo flyby and other things that it does best for the crowd to enjoy it.

I never watched the 90's Memphis Belle movie because it's not good. Unlike the actual 1943 documentary, the 90's movie with it being Hollywood ramps up the action which is further from the truth. Also, how are you going to keep the Memphis Belle name on the plane after it's the movie was done? The plane was borrowed for the film, but Sally B is a G model, so it makes no sense to keep the name of a famous F model on the plane after you've turned it back into a G model. A lot of people see this and think "oh it's the Memphis Belle." It's not.
I was there in 2022!
I was intoxicated by the sound of the engine and the vibration of the blades as it taxied past!
sally b flying fortress is my favourite plane ever I've had the pleasure of being able to go on board and have a look around.
Me too! In the early 90's when I was about 14. I remember it being roasting hot in there.
No Mustangs or Thunderbolts available? Strange pairing indeed. Enjoyed the video regardless. 😉👍🏻
Thanks. Yes, a pity that they couldn’t use a Mustang, or even a Spitfire or two!
Sorry 2 p51s and a p40 - p47 as well flying with her on fly past!!! 😊😊😊😊❤

I totally agree.
Actually, it would be better if the announcer was quiet too.
Those small planes ruin the sound of the B-17.
They most certainly do!

Wish they brought back its original Sally B paint scheme as it was very unique. Memphis Belle just has more fame recognition.
