Which is your favourite way of Shaking off the Blood? | Chiburui | Ghost of Tsushima

Chiburui, also called Chiburi, is a way of cleaning the blood of a blade after battle. It means “shaking of the blood”. In the “Ghost of Tsushima” game, Jin Sakai does this in different ways. This is a compilation of the animations I noticed.

@@RegularElectronicAthlete He swipes his sword from left to right

@@RegularElectronicAthlete There’s a secret one too. I don’t believe a lot of players know about it. Move your whole controller downwards. It’s a hidden motion control. It’s my favorite to use. You flick the blood off your katana and don’t sheath it.
Thanks, if I play it again. I'll have to try that one

1 most efficient way to get blood off and prevent rust
3
I like the wiping, its practical, more realistic, and just makes a lot of sense.
Not really, none of these are realistic
@@jaxsonruiz-davis4950 #2 is realistic and is the correct way of doing it, the oil on the blade helps the blood slide off amongst its main anti rust usage.
@@TheMinipilynah Its really not, the First Is how most did IT (also with some cloth) the second one, the oil wont do that, also at that time, the swords didnt use any oil.
@@GoGicz at that time the swords you see didn't even exist yet in that time period
all of the methods shown in the video are practiced, you just pick one that works for you
The 3rd one is such a vengeful way 🤯
The flick is my favourite. Shows how much control he has over his blade
1st one, cuz practical, the other two don’t work in real life.
I clean kitchen knives this way, put a rag into my…elbow pit? Whatever you call it, put the knife in, edge outwards, and slowly pull. Looks neat and is more useful the longer your blade is.
The second one, you slaughter like 20 dudes and pull that out...
Definitely 1 and 2. The 3rd one feels too light to launch all the blood off of the sword
The second one is the least effective in real life I would know I've tried them all obviously not with blood but water after slicing bottles but that's just my experience might not be doing it exactly right 🤷
@@jackalibur4919typically on a live blade used in those times, there would be coating of oil on the blade to keep it from rusting, which is a main reason why the 2nd chiburi is used, as the 3rd is too weak, and the 1st removes that coating of oil. The 2nd is a way to get enough off to keep the inside of the saia clean so they can clean later on. I'm a Nidan-ho in hokushin Shino ryu iaido and this is what I've always been taught, however it's just game and doesn't always have to be realistic
@@cobainn4954 that is some interesting information
I just started playing it do you do that by pressing a button or does he do it himself
@@leetait-ip2oh im pretty sure you swipe right on your touchpad, if not right then a different direction.
When he wipes it on his sleeve for sure.
3, and was added after an update (or Director's Cut Edition). Previously it only did this when you defeated a boss.
the spinning is most statisfying
The third one was always my favorite
I think the sword flip looks a lot better
absolutely number 2, feels so good after doing a massive fight with the sarugami armour when Jin just flicks his sword
For those who don't know:Samurai would actually choose 2.since it would remove more blood and be less likely to rust. Since 1 only smears the blood making it rust in more places, 3 is also interesting since He spins the sword. But he hits which done enough could possibly damage it. So your best bet is 2
Third one is the most practical and is used by many iaido user. The flick also checks the quality of the 'lock' (I forgot what it's called) that keeps the blade inside the handle on top of flicking off the blood.
Woah, it actually cleans the blood
The first one
2nd

@@RetroSmoothats such a lie but ok
ZNKR iaido does 2 and the one that was missed (O-Chiburi and Yoko-Chiburi). Number 3 (Kaiten Chiburi) does have the same sheathing in one of the ZNKR iaido katas, but there’s no spinning.
John 3:15 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The 3. Is my Favorit
These chiburi make me wanna take my katana outside and start to practice❤ nice video bro
The flick is a classic, but there’s something about the spin that just looks smooth as hell.
the one where he uses his arm, its so badass when you have the right light and the perfecy glint appears on the blade
First one because it’s the most practical out of the three
The third one is way too smooth damn 🙂↕️✋🏻

@@RegularElectronicAthlete appreciate it brother, it works!
Number Two.
Though The Way Sekiro Does It, Will Always Be My Favourite.
It's not really shaking off the blood. It's a spiritual ritual. More akin to shaking off the bad spirits and cleansing the blade before sheathing it.
First one, is the only one that actually works
Damn, Ganandorfs really practicing hard on his blade skills. Maybe he'll finally beat link.
I like the Elegance of the first one
1 was always my favorite because I always felt that even though it was a game the sword would rust
First would so mess and dirty.
Second is nice and easy but need some space.
Third is a bit more tricky but most properly.
I mean.....none of those actually do much. Maaaaybe 50% clean on the best. This is definitely not cleaning a blade at all
The blade spin and arm wipe are forever goated
Probably with a clean tissue, water, or alcohol. Don't want that blade to suffer any damage
as if i can select to use one😮💨
1: actually effective
2: badass
3: tf you doing?
Chiburi is good, but the 2nd one is more badass if you wearing straw hat ronin costume.
Option 2. It's simple, quick, effective, doesn't get any(more) blood on my duds, and... Quite possibly kills any gaki running up to knaw on my ankles... they are invisible after all 👀
First is kinda messy,
Third is smooth
Second is
BURY THE LIGHT DEEP WITHIN
definitely the air slice..
and if you time the sheathing action.
you can do it right as your enemys body crumples like a sack of potatos.
slice,
enemy stumbles with wound..
you air slice the blood off.
the enemy grabs they're throat, realising the inevitable.
you then sheath the sword while he crumples....
while your back is turned!

Number 1 is my favorite as its the most historically accurate. Blood is sticky. It congeals to surfaces. No matter how swift you are you won't shake off all the blood. A helicopter blade doesn't even move fast enough. Blood causes blades to corode. Holstering a blade with blood still on it is dishonorable. While samurai might flick off a decent amount first, they were trained to always wipe it in the crook of their arm before holstering if they cut someone or something. It's the only fullproof method. Thats why 3 is my least favorite. He doesn't even graze the blade across his forearm before holstering. He instead runs the back of the blade across the back of his hand.
Katana is a shitty one-edged weeb weapon, incapable of what objectively superior double-edged longsword can do. Adequate swordsman would wipe the blood from his sword with a piece of cloth after performing short edge oberhau right through the guard of a cocky samurai
Best Samurai game ever. It’s crazy how people are upset about Yasuke being in the Assassins Creed game yet on this mask and many others demon mask are depicted as black men. Wide nose, big lips, tightly curled hair etc. Either way that game will not come close to this one. Can’t wait until part two
As someone who does iaido that hurts to watch haha. The second and third ones aren’t for shaking blood off, it’s a common myth since chiburi means something along the lines of cleaning the blade and even Wikipedia says it’s cleaning the blood off. However, only one form of it as far as I know is actually for cleaning blood off which isn’t in this video, the second one shown here is mostly for ritually cleaning the death from your blade (as Japanese saw the dead as ritually impure) although I’ve also seen it claimed it also was to check the sword for damage. The third is definitely to check that the tsuka fittings haven’t come loose from the impact and is pretty common. The first one isn’t one I’m familiar with and seems embellished but might be from a ryuha I don’t know of.
i like the 1st more but mostly the version he did when he fought khotun the 1st time
I'd say the 2nd or 3rd one. But you did forget one. There's also one where he wipes the blood off on his sleeve. Dunno how that one could be a favorite it's fairly basic but they're all bad ass, I just love Samurai in general lol
My favorite is Ghost of Tsushima 2 ! I can’t wait for it to come out.
I do all seven chiburi with each kata which there are 134 of them, 22 of them don't require chiburi. Teshinryu family!
Flicking blood off would just end up destroying the blade as you aren't getting it all. But it's a video game and it looks cool.
I don't think a high class warrior like a Samurai would wipe it on himself though.
The first one isn’t a good idea. It gets your clothes dirty and I think there was something else to it. A Japanese person who studies some form of Japanese swordsmanship said this about it once shortly after the game came out. It might have been let’s ask Shogo, but I can’t be certain.
When performing chiburi in iaido and iaijutsu, we pull on the saya (sheath) a lot and twist our hips. Never bending to try to reach for the entrance of the saya and sheath in one go.
Also the way he keeps his hand close to the opening is accurate.
So, so far to my knowledge, the performances are very realistic.
The second one has so much disrespect behind it, I'm amazed it isn't scripted to play after every Mongol commander fight.
Where did you get this armor from?

@@RegularElectronicAthlete thank you! I will try that!
First one is Raidens in MGR
I like the third one the most because the spin to remove the blood is cool, but even more so becatse Jin sheathes the sword underhand which, for some reason, just looks way cooler and more technical. I wish there was one with a true spin-sheathe. LetsaskShogo has a short about how to spin-sheathe a katana if you don't know what I mean. It's just cool.
I think the first one is cool, I wish that when you unlock the ghost armour and you clean off your blade it would have 1% chance to terrify enemies around you while you wipe the blood of your enemies off your sword...slowly
The only one that really works is the Elbow.. so the Elbow. Lol
Not historically accurate. Samurai wouldn't sheath a sword without making sure the blade was clean. You'd have to wipe it clean with a cloth, or else it will start to rust. It looks great in the movies though.
The second one is my favourite for some specific reasons (Most quite obvious) but the third looks more practical
The proper way was the first. They didn’t put the blade back in the sheath unless it was entirely clean. If they did, it meant vendetta against an opposing royal house.
I didnt recognize it, ive never played the game in color lol
Ok third is smooth, second is classic, 1st is my favorite is bad AHH and realistic for cleaning the blade #2 is mainly to check blade stability
Number 3 is cold calculated and precise the first one I’ve always found strand why wipe blood on your armor and the 2nd one was to angry
Yes. With "Rise of the Ronin" and "Nioh 1&2" as well, I don't like the idea of sheathing a dirty blade.
First is executioner preparing for another
Second is after ending an enemy
Third is for a dishonorable end/being the second for a respected warlord after sepukku
“No shaking. Shaking is only when you’re done in men’s room. Hi, hello” (a Sushi Chef)
The one where he wipes it on his sleeve, but only because the inside of the saya (scabbard) would get all moldy and yucky if he didn’t as the other options would leave blood on the blade. Would be cool if he perhaps had a cloth to wipe the blood off on instead of his clothes. . .
First one, though I like keeping my blade bloody and flicking off the blood after making an entrance kill, feels cooler that way
