As a revenge story, it's nice. But as a human feelings story, it's horrible. Her last meeting with her father, ever, before his death, left her with an impression of him that is less than favorable. This story works great, so long as you disregard the human emotions regarding the end of life and taking farewell of loved ones etc. The old man could've started his revenge before he died, so that OP and her father could've spent some time together before the end, but instead he preferred to die a spiteful old man surrounded by money-hungry harpies.
